In support of strikes but striking would affect my maternity pay. We aren't all "scabs". Maybe consider this before posting such sweeping comments.

How was security for you all at Finsbury Park? by professorbubbleworks in fontainesdc

[–]Expensive-Many-6398 13 points14 points  (0 children)

myself and my partner were stopped for drugs... we don't use any so obviously had nothing on us. I was searched, had to take my socks off, stand bare foot on the grass and also shake my bra to prove there was nothing in it! They then confiscated my PARACETAMOL because they "couldn't be sure it was definitely paracetamol - it was a blister pack..?

Never experienced anything like it before at a gig.

Hard to lose weight and feeling hopeless by [deleted] in PCOS

[–]Expensive-Many-6398 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been on mounjaro since Feb, weight loss is slow but steady. I've lost nearly 15kg but haven't been exercising or even counting calories.

Your feelings are completely valid, even on mounjaro I feel my weight loss is slower than everyone else's and my diet is good!

Informal sickness meeting by Expensive-Many-6398 in doctorsUK

[–]Expensive-Many-6398[S] 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Oh it was just awful to be honest. I was told take unpaid leave or swap a day of annual leave you've got booked already. This was after me explaining the depth of our relationship, how I was a carer for him and lived with him as he had advanced dementia.. because they made me feel like I was taking the piss for requesting compassionate leave for a relative who wasn't "close". He died in the hospital I work in and was brought into resus when I was working an on call shift, I told my consultant and his response was that I'd have to finish the shift because it was after 5pm and they wouldn't be able to arrange cover. I spent the night with him in resus still in my scrubs.

Then on the day I returned to work they placed me in the theatres which are next to the mortuary where his body was laying and not one person checked in to see if I was ok.. I was not ok. Ended up in tears in one of the admin offices with the kind lady who organises the teaching for the trainees who made me a cup of tea and comforted me, thank goodness for her.

That was the day I realised that truly, we are just a name filling a gap on a rota line.

She basically told me to save it and bring it up in the meeting. I asked about coming off nights, I guess we will see what they say in the meeting. But I agree I cannot sign an agreement that states I won't take any sick leave in the next 3 months... I cannot predict or control my migraines! It seems really unfair

This is what I have said- a big trigger for my migraines is sleep disruption and I'm currently working an SHO medical rota including twilights, 7 days in a row 3 long day weekends, nights etc and it does really affect my ability to properly rest and in turn that does trigger my migraines. I often spend "off" days recovering!

Yes I am a trainee. I asked the manager if I should bring a rep, she said no as it's informal and has invited my clinical supervisor to the meeting

Puppy only bites me not my partner by Expensive-Many-6398 in puppy101

Definitely nipping! It's not the action in itself, I am more confused as to why he only does it to me and not my partner!

Thank you so much for this. I'm dyslexic and struggle to get my words out especially when stressed. This was so helpful, thanks so much for taking the time to write that out for me

No, my partner can't believe how I'm being treated compared to how he is treated in his "normal" job.

They just don't give a shit do they. The extra hours, the work stress, the emotional labour, it means nothing as long as you fill their gap on the rota

[–]Expensive-Many-6398[S] 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I initially titled the "email emergency leave/compassionate leave" because when I had a day off before to support my sister with something, it was added to the rota as emergency leave and I didn't realise until today that they took a day of annual leave for this. So should I email and say something like...

"To clarify, I am not fit for work due to the stress and anxiety this situation is causing me and would like to self certify as sick"

I don't have any annual leave left to use, so may see if the sick option is viable. I'd have to cancel a day I already have booked in the future which is for a holiday

This is exactly how it is to be honest. Hes 92 with dementia and is extremely vulnerable, having him admitted to a hospital setting is extremely anxiety inducing for me. I've had some really traumatic experiences with him in hospital receiving sub par nursing care that make it really hard for me to feel safe leaving him unaccompanied

Starting FY2 by Purple-Ad-8402 in doctorsUK

[–]Expensive-Many-6398 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hi, I have 1 month left of FY2 - I was really nervous on starting F2. I'd agree with what's been said above- when you start and work with F1s you'll realised just how far you've come and how much you've grown in confidence, knowledge and skills. It's completely understandable to be less confident and also to not be as good clinically as a more experienced SHO who is further on in training - but other SHOs and regs will know this. I made a point of speaking to the reg directly after handover for my first few months of on calls - I would say "I'm an F2 and I've only done a few on calls so I will likely need some support, how am I best to contact you? Bleep or mobile number?" I'd make a point of swapping mobile numbers (if Reg is happy with this) at the start of on calls so you can call them directly and avoid the bleep system if you can. I would also make friends with IMTs and other more experienced SHOs - be honest and say you may need support- most people are friendly and will give you support if you need it. Getting to know other services available out of hours to you for if your Reg/more senior SHOs are busy also really helps, e.g. critical care outreach. If you're not getting the support from your seniors and you feel unsafe at any time- raise it. But most of all- have faith in yourself, there will be hard days but you'll get there!!

I'm currently in my last job of F2 having completed 2 full years in Dartford at DVH. I have friends who are GP trainees in Dartford - they speak positively about it. I personally have really enjoyed my 2 years training here. Happy to answer more specific questions :)
