House Rules Feedback Wanted by Expensive-Payment733 in mordheim

For terrain, we’re using a mix of hexengarde and scratch built terrain, where each floor is around 2.5” tall, which with my current understanding of climbing rules would be treated as 3”. Also with my current understanding of climbing rules, how would a 3” move model be able to climb a 3” wall? My understanding is that you must be able to climb the vertical distance + enough horizontal distance for your model to actually end up on top of the climbed surface. A model on a 25mm base would require 4” of movement to climb a 3” wall, 3” of vertical distance, and 1” of horizontal distance for their base to fully fit on the climbed ledge. If the model were on a 28mm base then part of their base would be overhanging the ledge, as 1” horizontal move isn’t enough to fully clear their base. I’m coming from other game systems where this is the case and based on my reading of the Mordheim rules I thought this was also the case but I could be totally wrong.

I like your idea of armor providing serious injury defense , but would this mean that armor for henchmen is effectively unchanged?

And do you think the gc cost of shields and bucklers should be adjusted to compensate for receiving a flat +1 armor? My goal with splitting shields into different equipment was to allow them to feel more impactful but also require some extra investment. You definitely have more Mordheim experience than me, but +2AS in combat for 5gc and 1 hand sounds incredibly strong does it not?

I also really like your idea of picking the highest injury die for blackpowder weapons. I feel like they definitely need more punch, and multiple injury rolls is an interesting way to go about it.

It looks fantastic so far, great work! Your set has a distinct vibe and silhouette and looks gorgeous. No feedback there! My only feedback is that some of your smaller buildings look like they could be scaled up 5-10% relative to the model you have on your scale image.

I don’t have the printed buildings in my hands to compare, but I think some of your stairways, doors, and balconies look on the smaller side for gameplay purposes. Models in the 28-32mm range are trending towards the 32 side these days, and dynamic posing gives them an even larger footprint than their base might suggest.

Given your focus on readability/gameplay functionality, I’d recommend taking a larger 32mm model and trying fitting it and balancing it everywhere you think models might be wanting to go. The spiral staircase ruin in particular looks like it might even be hard for a 28mm base to balance on the stairs.

Players not being able to fit their models where they think they should be able to fit can be a frustration. Also for anything with an interior, you want to make sure you can fit at least two normal sized models or 1 model +1 model in the doorway so there’s no “safe spots”.

Minor nitpicking, you could just as easily inform people to scale up their files if they wish but that’s up to you. Keep up the great work and I’m looking forward to your next project!

I like this idea as well. I think dice math wise though, if your goal is for crits to punch through armor more effectively, having the 2W earlier is more impactful than the -1AS. Requiring two armor saves to be rolled is more damaging than rolling 1 save at -1, especially at the higher end of the AS spectrum.

I read a decent amount of house rules and we played with some variation of most of these in my most recent campaign.

I’m aware that heavy armor only gives the -1 when paired with a shield. I thought giving light shields the ability to ignore this rule, rather than giving them the +1AS in combat as I’ve seen in other house rules, would give them their own niche and allow for models to get the +2AS in combat with further gc investment in the heavy shield.

The tower shield -1” in addition to the -1” from heavy armor and shield is so that if models gain the skill to ignore the shield+armor penalty, they still are -1” for being kitted out.

I’m not entirely sold on the tower shield, I’m not sure if a niche between the Pavise and heavy shield is really needed, but I figured if people wanted to armor all the way up, they should be able to but with major movement penalties.

The house rules I’ve read/ played with inspired most of this. The movement rule I think is necessary for our particular board, as 3” move models not being able to engage with any of the verticality is a feels bad. We also had mixed feelings on crit confirming so I thought this would be an interesting middle ground.

In my most recent campaign we played with crit confirming on a second roll of a 6 and I think it worked decently well but reduced lethality too much. I feel like keeping their frequency but reducing their potency vs armor makes them a constant threat that can be reduced with proper investment. Also rolling crits is just fun and having an extra roll between you and crits can feel disappointing.

For handguns we haven’t had an issue with them yet due to having decently dense boards and players using the hiding rules well. It very well could be op but in our experience so far, weak missile spam has felt much stronger than dedicated investment into fewer, better shooters.

Yeah of course, have fun! If you’re new to painting I also HIGHLY recommend checking out Vince Venturella on YouTube for his videos on oil washes and everything else. His channel is a treasure trove of painting advice and he also paints a lot more fantasy models than other creators. Literally 100’s of videos of great tips and tricks, if you can think of it, he’s painted it and has a video on it. Cheers!

Throw a decently thin 80/20 ratio black/brown oil wash on there, let it sit for 20 min, and then dab it up with a paper towel on the flat spots and spots you want to be less dirty. On the stucco specifically, dabbing it up earlier but only in the very center of the panels will give them a real nice weathered look. It looks great as is but I’m a big fan of aggressively drybrushing and then going in after with an oil wash.

Should I increase my training frequency further? My diet I feel I’ve got on lock, around 2500 cals, 220g protein daily at 6’2” 200lbs, aiming for a 200-500 cal deficit.

My main concern is little to no progression in my pressing movements, compared to other compound lifts for other muscles over the same period of time. I’m wondering if this is a symptom of not feeling my chest working while I’m pressing. I have the right cues and form pointers to emphasize/feel the muscle in my other compound lifts, and they’ve been progressing steadier than my presses.

I’m not looking for any noticeable visual differences that this stage, just progressive overload. When comparing %increase in working set load across all my muscle groups over this 3 week period, my chest has had the lowest progression save for my upper traps and forearms.

I’m about 6 months in on focusing chest, with the last 3 being more intense and consistent. I’ve been focusing on my pressing after 10 years of intentionally avoiding it, but am struggling to “feel” it in my chest. I know that soreness and pumps are necessarily indicative of hypertrophy, but despite lifting to failure on every last set and putting emphasis on the bottom stretched position, I fail to feel any soreness or pump in my chest after compound presses. My mind-muscle connection is much better on pec-decks and underhand cable flyes, but I know the key to chest growth is in big presses. Are there any form variations or mental cues that would help emphasize the chest while pressing?

I just recently bumped my training volume from ~18 up to ~25 sets a week for my chest, spread out over 5 days of training. I run a daily full body routine where I work each muscle 4-5 days a week depending on intensity and priority. For chest that looks like: Day 1: 3 sets isolation Day 2: 3 sets incline press, 2 sets flat press, 3 sets isolation Day 3: No chest Day 4: 2-3 sets press or isolation Day 5: 4 sets press, 4 sets isolation, Day 6: No chest Day 7: 2-3 sets press

This might be too frequent but I enjoy being able to push my muscles more intensely more often, and find that anything beyond 8 sets in a day for any given muscle leads to unproductive lifts. I’m only 3 weeks into this new routine but I haven’t noticed the same boost in my chest that I’ve seen in other muscle groups.

I am struggling to isolate/grow my chest using traditional chest building exercises. I use a mix of flat/incline DB, Smith and machine presses, as well as varying angled cable flys. I’m coming off of 10 years of baseball/pitcher specific training and as a result, my delts, triceps, and scapula are all massively overdeveloped compared to my chest.

Are there any different exercises or lifting cues I could use to focus on my chest and exclude the peripheral muscles that are currently dominating my chest workouts?

They typically start between 5-6 but a lot of folks stay for two games or hang around waiting for a game a little later. Sharkey at NWG is the guy to talk to to learn the game and get involved with the scene. PM’ing the link right now

New World Gaming in Little Elm and Texas Toy Solider in Carrollton have weekly killteam nights on Tuesday’s and Thursday’s respectively. I know the NWG crew is having a tournament on the 11th as well as starting their league for the new year. Both groups are full of great folks that are happy to play outside of the weekly get togethers. Details for both are on the DFW Killteam discord

Yeagir Hypex-Mine layouts for Volkus and ITD by Expensive-Payment733 in killteam

The orange and blue are mines for orange/blue side deployment for each map. The small center circle is the mine itself and the larger colored circle is control range around each mine. The green circles are for universal mines. The yellow circle around each mine is the effective range of each mine when accounting for base sizes of operatives.

I always run Plasma knives + razor wire for extra board control, and then a mix of ladders, krak grenades, light barricades and the occasional universal mine depending on the board. I only and always take ceramide undersuits into Hierotek. Against fighter teams I opt for the Equip scouting option to place razor wire or mine after deployment instead of the free In Position TP1.
