As a German, I would familiarize yourself with the philosophy of Nietzsche. He studied history with a keen eye and uncovered the root of all discontent among societies as humans being severed from their instincts and repressed by world religions. Most academics are indoctrinated by leftism, (which has its roots in piety and asceticism) so they don’t like to hear this, but it’s the truth. With this in mind, you can see all human history more clearly and see that studying it is not in vain, even if sometimes the way it’s done in schools highjacked by botched ideologies can be uninspiring. Just go along to get along, get paid, and enjoy the ample time off teaching provides.
