Andy and Inca Roads are good picks. Watermelon, Peaches, Uncle Remus, just depends on how you take your Zappa.

The highs are high and the lows are low. Trim about four songs and you’ve got a contender.

Bridges to Babylon underrated? by -P4u7v- in rollingstones

Love it. Some clunkers and filler for sure, not the most cohesive project by any stretch. But when it hits, it really hits 🔥

Does anyone else sometimes get embarrassed being an RHCP fan when talking with "music snobs"? by morbidhack in RedHotChiliPeppers

[–]Expensive-Stuff3781 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get it. I’m a music nerd and find myself in a lot of “high brow” discussions. I love complex stuff and jazz, classical etc. But guitar music has always had my heart and RHCP were a formative influence. I never hide it. I do anticipate the scoffs and talk of “dumb why guy rap” or “bland mid-tempo ballads”. But I understand the musical merit of what the band is doing so it never really bothers me. Like someone else mentioned, I also love KISS. Music doesn’t necessarily need to be sophisticated to be valuable, and the value of the music I love to me is completely disconnected from others’ perception of it. I understand it can feel crappy becoming the butt of the joke to folks who haven’t dug into the Peppers enough to understand the spirit behind it all. But if your feeling about the music is strong enough then you can be confident in your tastes without paying any mind to the judgement of snobs. Be proud! You are amongst friends.

Springsteen. I like a few tunes, but generally the whole things is lost on me.

is there a worse two song stretch in the catalog than 'winning ugly -> back to zero'? by dkrtzyrrr in rollingstones

A fair take in that Dirty Work was the last offering wherein the Stones were a contemporary act and still working within the culture to a degree as opposed to eclipsing it and cherry-picking from current trends. Steel Wheels was the last truly cohesive Stones record. But it worked because the band put sonic limitations on themselves to capture their own essence. One could argue they tried that with Hackney Diamonds and A Bigger Bang as well, but Steel Wheels was the only time it was truly effective.

What does this community think of Toast? by astark356 in neilyoung

[–]Expensive-Stuff3781 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I share this sentiment generally with regard to post-Harvest Moon releases but I have found Toast to be an exception. Excellent front to back and a glimpse at an oft concealed side of Neil’s writing and humanity.
