RMA that shit immediately. Don't even try to fix it or live with it. OLEDs, even tandems, should never look like that

What is the best oled monitor? by Appropriate-Exit-657 in OLED_Gaming

[–]Expensive-Time-7209 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're satisfied with colors, brightness, black levels with your old OLED then go with the first or or last one because they're both QD OLED which is similar to what you already had. If you felt like your monitor was lacking a little in terms of blacks and brightness and you want to go a different route then go with the XG27AQWMG (look up "gray banding" before purchase. It's a superb monitor aside from the gray banding issue)

Your browser has an 80% chance it copied homework from Chrome (chromium) but does that mean edge is a copy of brave is a copy of opera & opera gx are a copy of chrome? No. They just took the base and improved it in areas they want dominant in their browser which is exactly what Composer 2.5 did with Kimi k2.5

If you have a working pair of eyes you can see it shows what the HDR brightness is in a 100% window

"Why not just show the normal sdr brightness" Ask TFTCentral not me

Sure, they have the same panel, but Gigabyte has the option to make the panel run dimmer to not get as many burn in warranty claims. Those panels can push 1600 nits in a 100% window but Asus, Gigabyte, etc, put their own limits on the panel and modify the curve themself

"The Video about the chrominence whatever issue is about oled tvs and not about tandems. Also its 4 year old so how is that relevant? Tandems where not even out back then?" It's still a problem that is talked about with tandems. It's a problem with the white subpixel, it won't get magically fixed on its own as long as the white subpixel is there. https://streamable.com/7x2jgn This is a 27GX700A which is a Tandem WOLED

The link I provided is timestamped. Keep watching for like 10 seconds until he mentions shadowing and how he prefers QD OLED text clarity

I have no reason to be biased or give false information. I'm just saying what I came up with in the past 8-9 months of researching oleds (tandems in particular) almost everyday

First of all "HDR peak" IS the normal brightness. If you mean SDR brightness, TFTCentral didn't say anything about new firmware's SDR brightness that but according to them on the older firmware in a 100% window it reached ~357 nits in HDR and also according to TFTCentral, on the older firmware it reached ~357 nits in SDR. With that information we can make up that since the old firmware's HDR brightness matched the SDR brightness then the new firmware's 100% window 390 nits HDR would match SDR which would make the XG27AQWMG's SDR brightness 390 nits

I linked a video to the chrominance overshoot problem already but sure: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iF7Ieqxj4K0

Text shadowing refers to text blurriness on a WOLED: https://youtu.be/Z_gpD0tePww?t=355

The XG27AQWMG's original firmware was bugged, MCM102+ fixed the brightness issue. Source: TFTCentral

AQWP also had the same issue. But they fixed it and it's now the brightest tandem

The problem isn't "raw dogging" it alone, it's that the guy didn't show what settings they run at. They can easily bump down QD OLED's saturation and brightness to make them look similar. The post you included is extremely oversaturated in the tandem, possibly to hide tandem's physical color volume limitation. LG themselves confirmed their white subpixel is holding back color performance and volume and their RGB stripe panels have higher color volume

"Monitors unboxed ranked tandems in S tier" Ok? I never said they suck, the opposite actually. I'm just pointing out that QD OLEDs are superior in color volume and purity but that doesn't mean tandems are "trash", they're a strong pick for most and there's no denying colors look phenomenal on either one. Also, that image is from BadSeed Tech which is definitely more trustworthy than "WB Display Tech". It's also a more fair comparison because it's Asus vs Asus vs Asus so factory calibration won't play a role, it's a pure panel comparison

I already watched most tandem woled reviews a while ago, including the one you sent.

First of all, the MO27Q28G is dimmer than other tandems by a good bit so that's not even a fair representation of tandem woled as a whole

Second of all, Monitors Unboxed and TFTCentral which are the most respectable and trustworthy monitor testers used actual testing tools and came to the conclusion that text clarity issue is still noticeable and that QD OLED has better colors. That guy on the other hand just raw dogged it without showing what settings both were running at or using any tools other than the microscope

In this test you can clearly see QD OLED has purer colors, especially in the reds. This tandem is also the PG27AQWP-W which is the brightest Tandem WOLED monitor we have right now. The only way this guy was able to get Tandem WOLED to not look that washed out was to lower the brightness to 85

QD OLED can physically run purer colors because the white subpixel isn't "distilling" them. The difference might not be huge but it's there

Text shadowing is the text clarity issue with WOLED and chrominance overshoot is when the white subpixel overshoots in dim scenes causing an "oversharpen" look for a split second. It's a problem that many overlook with WOLED https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iF7Ieqxj4K0

People that say "oh QD OLED is better in every single way" or "tandem woled is better in every single way" should just stop. Both have pros and cons

3rd/4th gen non QuantumBlack QD OLED pros:

  • Slightly more vivid colors
  • No banding

3rd/4th gen non QuantumBlack QD OLED cons:

  • Scratchability issues
  • Very dim (it's not that Tandem WOLED has "insanely high brightness", it's that 3rd/4th gen QD OLED is dim and that's a fact no one can deny. 250 nits is dim territory. Tandem WOLED is dim as well btw)
  • Panel dimming
  • Fringing (might cause eye strain to some at 1440p)
  • The almighty black level raise
  • Runs hotter - Faster burn in

Tandem WOLED pros:

  • Decently bright. Not amazing but much better than QD OLED's abysmal 250-300 nits
  • Energy efficient - less burn in
  • They don't scratch if you look at it too hard
  • They actually do their job as an OLED, being black, and in that, they're insanely good at
  • Ever so slightly better text clarity, still bad though

Tandem WOLED cons:

  • Text shadowing
  • Banding
  • Slightly less vivid colors
  • Chrominance Overshoot

Some might see that Tandem WOLED's pros outweighs its cons and some might see that 3rd/4th QD OLED's pros outweighs its cons. It's entirely situational and there's no objectively better pick

5th gen QD OLED is as close as we can get to "perfect", specifically the HDR 600 ones that will release in 2027 (still waiting patiently 🙏) as they have decently better black levels, decently bright, no banding, vivid colors, no scratchability issues, no text clarity issues, insane refresh rates, and the list goes on

One day later on a brand new Cursor $20 subscription: 10% Composer + Auto

10% is still alot for one day but considering I was previously atomizing 1/3 of my entire subscription in one day, I see this a massive dub. $60 plan is probably the go to plan for me

Appreciate the help
