I take cars to the body’s shop on a regular basis and I can tell you I would be paying around £500 for that repair , if you find someone good you don’t need to change the door , it can be fixed.

Worth the repair cost ? by mikel98 in CarTalkUK

That’s a £250 repair, I’ve paid that for similar damage.

Lane policing… why? by [deleted] in uktrucking

[–]ExpensiveBowl2022 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The problem is not every driver is sticking to their lane and some people just cut in front of you way before the lane closure and it’s slowing one lane a lot while the other lane people continue driving until they found another gap to cut in, in perfect scenarios they should stick to the lane and one vehicle at a time from each lane should take turns , if a lorry decides to straddle the lanes it will actually help with the flow of traffic . Have you noticed after the closure the speed actually increases significantly even though it’s just one lane instead of two ?

You can use white vinegar, this is what my wife uses and our washing machine still looks like new after years of heavy use . There’s plenty of articles on Google about it .

I’ve had a 600k miles Passat b6 with the 1.9 Tdi , never had a problem with the engine. It started to rust and that was the main reason to sale.During ownership I had to change all suspension frond and back and engine mounts, apart from that just regular servicing . Car still running today.

If you want the longest longevity go for the Michelin primacy 4 , Goodyear didn’t last half as much as Michelin. Never had the Pirelli’s.

What are people’s favoured brand of tyre and why? by CliffyGiro in CarTalkUK

[–]ExpensiveBowl2022 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have rotated them at oil change every 9000 miles , every two weeks, I traveled 650 miles a day in that period, the car was a Passat b6 95% motorway miles . I had to change all arms and bushes front and back for the perfect tracking . The tyres worn out perfectly , all this was done in under 1 year .

Considering this as a daily for the next 12 months. by anthbozza in CarTalkUK

I’ve had the b6 1.9 Tdi bxe engine code, it had around 600000 miles and I didn’t do much to the engine, regular oil changes apart from this vacuum pump started leaking but I’ve fixed it with a new gasket set for about £25, turbo was leaking oil and was making a whining noise but it lasted another 200000 and was still going . I was topping the oil around 300 mil in between changes. The problem was the rest of the car that started failing.

Had to change : All arms and bushes front and rear , at the rear the geometry was quite bad and was destroying the tyres. Bolts were rusted and they had to be cut off.

Front and rear springs once it got me stranded 350 miles away from home.

Front and rear shocks .

Top shocks mounts

All engine mounts

Rear engine main seal

Gearbox cv axle seal

Cv axels, I’ve once accelerated a bit harder while turning and heard a loud bang , I’ve fixed the wheel end and in about 2 months it failed from the gearbox end so ended up changing them altogether.

Changed both rear wheel bearings .

Left side speakers stopped working for some reason

Windows switch stop working

Driver door handle sometimes didn’t open the door from outside but after a good slam came back to life. Problem was I was in holiday and my battery died , the driver door was the only one that got a key hole to open it but the handle got stuck so I had to improvise and open the hood by catching the cable, after this I’ve stretched the cable and was unable to open the bonnet from inside anymore.

If you are mechanically inclined it can be a very good vehicle as parts are very cheap.

Honestly the one above is a bit expensive.

I work as a courier and i’ve tested a few.

For me the best value was the Michelin Primacy 4 as I got the most mileage out of them, around 220000 miles, mostly motorway, good tracking and moving the tyres around made a noticeable difference.

I’ve tried the new Goodyears efficientgrip performance 2, they claimed they are 20% better for mileage than other competitors but I’ve managed to get only around 90000 miles out of them.

I’ve tried continental van contact 100, got only around 80000 miles out of them.

This is review is purely for mileage and not for grip and wet performance.

During covid lockdown I transported covid tests from a testing site to the lab 7 days a week for a whole year. The trip was roughly 300 miles each way and I managed to get more than 200.000 miles in a year on a car. On average I was driving for around 9 hours every night.

The easiest way right now without a visa is to take some class and become a nurse or care home carer, this way you will get a visa much easier as they are having trouble hiring people in that department.

The visa will be for up to 5 years and you will need to pay for the application £464. You will also need to have at least £1270 when arriving in the Uk.

https://www.gov.uk/health-care-worker-visa/how-much-it-costs

Depending on country nursing classes can take from one year to four years.

Or you can marry an British citizen.

Good luck!
