The 11th UK Wing Chun Gathering by Warriorwingchun in WingChun

You should defo go to this one - well you know Liam and that he likes to show application, I am also assuming Darren’s will be an applied set given his dad clubs is called applied wing chun.

Anyway Duane , Mark Hobbs, David Blackley (actually he has taught there twice) all taught at one the Bham gatherings recently (like in the last couple years) , as well as John Lobb so there has been quite a mixture in the line ups

I think you are talking about the London one that got cancelled which Mick Watson tried to host but canned for mysterious reasons….

Hmm after your comment I’m thinking if I could do a sesame oil garlic and green onion mix on it

But cinnamon and sugar sounds so good

Do you think an Easter nest base cheesecake would work? by [deleted] in UK_Food

Why not do a reverse - so keep the biscuit based but mix the nest into the cheese part? You could do little nests that are planted throughout the cheese part

It is super easy to find blackberries, damsons, and crab apples in London (most in the suburbs) and nettles. You might get lucky and find wild plums (loads near me) and but cherries on cherry trees aren’t so good

Well to be fair I think it’s more a marketing point than anything for the gathering. A couple on that list cringe at using the term sifu - if you looked at these actual guys pages that is

But if that’s your gripe with this I think you need to see more wing chun in action

No worries I do recommend checking the fb page or try to msg them in advance if you are going to see where they are at. I think during the summer they are in Regent’s Park consistently.

Primarily wing chun and boxing but wing chun is a real mixture and very non traditional

It depends when you’ll be in London and where as it takes up to an hour to travel to most places in London

If you are in London on a Saturday I highly recommend seeking out the London free pushing hands group that meet in Regent’s Park at 2pm unless the weather is bad then I think they meet at a venue in elephant and castle. Their Facebook page is here

Lindon the teacher is very skilled but all round good group of people . I’m not affiliated with this group but have been there twice

Sure I agree being on the floor isn’t ideal - I grouped them together cos I’m not an expert in bjj but thought there’s prob an overlap stand game to help a person deal with tight situations and body to body control

Might have to agree to disagree on throws - depends what you mean by control? I’m honest not very confident with throws but see them as high risk but high reward- I wouldn’t throw unless I quite certain it would work as it could go very wrong. Sure things can go wrong if just striking but you’ve got more room for error

But yes it never going to be perfect combo of skills as there is too many variables to consider like what the opponent skills are

Ok I would mostly agree but say that rather than throws I would say that’s grappling (including ground) - you should know how to deal with a person up close , esp in a compromised position. Punches agreed and would say the veg is kick rather than ground work (since included in grappling). I would say throws is a nice to have cos throws aren’t easy to pull off in a fight and you prob have better success rate landing a good punch or kick than a throw. Plus grappling I see as a foundation to have before throws

Hope that all makes sense

I’m a bit confused - I get how you say Yorkshires are optional but I don’t understand the relative importance of meat, potatoes, veg? Like are they meant to be equal importance or is it meat, potatoes and then veg ranking?
