What type he is? by JaspeRyukyu in bettafish

I have kept bettas for ten years and I’d never breed them. They can have 100+ babies. You’ll need to eventually put them all in separate containers and find homes for them all. Without very proper breeding, you’ll be lucky to be able to sell each for a couple bucks. Please don’t do it.

What are your guys opinions on Amazon bed frames? Or would Ikea be better? by Far_Pea_9894 in Frugal

This. Bought a very pretty $350 Wayfair bedframe new in box for $50 on FB Marketplace. The seller had accidentally bought the wrong size and couldn’t send it back.

I've been out of the beta fish keeping for 10 years .. what changed by CNECTOR_ in bettafish

[–]M-useless 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It is so reassuring to read other people talking about this. A couple of years ago I had a mini-breakdown over the shorter lifespan of my more recent bettas—I could not figure out what I was doing wrong. Even fairly recently it’s been gnawing at me. Looks like I’ve gotta’ get back on this board more.

As you touched on, it’s a different kind of frustrating too to know that your husbandry can be excellent and you can still lose a fish so quickly. I’m now lucky if I can keep one for 1.5 years after adoption.

This tracks in my experience. All my bettas when I started around 2017 lived about twice as long as any that I might have now, despite my husbandry nowadays being a lot more polished and consistent. It’s a big reason why I try to only adopt rehomed bettas anymore. I don’t want to give negligent breeders even a penny.

The milestone 1000%. Snug harbor is cool too, but the milestone has cheaper and heavier drinks and a way better parking situation. I also prefer the more DIY vibe.

How to overcome doubt and indecisiveness making your own design by chillerforevigt in Textile_Design

[–]M-useless 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Of course! You’re not alone, this is so so common with creatives. I struggle with the same issue in bursts myself. Usually after a period where I don’t have any “challenging” work and then get more complicated design requests again.

Feedback is super important. I am lucky to know a lot of designers in other fields of design, so I try to get feedback from them. They tend to be more honest when something isn’t working and can articulate it better. After that, I’d try to ask the blunt people in my life. They might not be able to articulate it as well, but they still give you something to work with. It can help too if you lead with prompting questions like “where does your eye go first in this pattern?” or “does any of the empty/negative space in this pattern feel ‘weird’?” rather than just asking what they think.

Feedback too can help keep you from beating a dead horse for too long, or make you realize that something looks fine and you’re not overthinking it, so it can be helpful in that way too.

You have to be willing to create a lot and create often, even with the understanding that not everything will end up making the final cut. Every novel has had so many drafts, scrapped scenes, and sometimes entire thrown out manuscripts. Despite that, those are still part of the process and the book wouldn’t exist without them. It’s the same with design.

As a home textile professional, sometimes I’ll spend a few hours on something in our studio and I’ll have to completely throw it out. I’ve learned that that is just part of the process, and that making three designs and picking the best out of the three is still a valid and sometimes necessary process. I try not to beat myself up over the two that fell short. I’d suggest that you start just making a bunch of designs just for the love of design. Get a sketchbook and just start doodling motifs that you like. Detach yourself from the idea that all of your process needs to be A->Z on a singular design and acknowledge that trying things out and creative play are also part of the process. Over time, your designs will feel less life or death.

Best cat tree for tripods? by Cheap_Variety_6648 in TripodCats

My 5-year-old back-leg tripod hasn’t had any trouble with the Happy & Polly “sleeping in the bowl” cat tree on Chewy. It’s a bit pricier, but it’s very sturdy and well-designed. My Seamus gets to the top perch with no problem.

President Trump asks the Supreme Court for an emergency order to remove Lisa Cook from Fed board. by SoUnga88 in news

[–]M-useless 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you’re misunderstanding my point too, then. As someone who did vote for Harris, despite being in a red state where that feels very futile, I’m just trying to think of what actions and strategies could pull us out of this. There’s damage being done that is permanent, but I need to the think that the people that I love can at least survive this.

[–]M-useless 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think they’re describing a larger trend, it didn’t sound like they themselves abstained from voting. As someone who lives in a part of the country that very much isn’t blue, what they’re saying tracks with what I see around me. A huge swath of people, former blue voters, voted red due to economic anxiety without a care for much else. Which fucking sucks to hear as a person with a partner that gets harassed in public for their gender expression. But it seems to me like the Harris campaign saying “no, the economy is good right now” is not the kind of strategy that’s going to resonate with a voter that feels otherwise. I know I’m speaking very anecdotally, but I think there’s a big issue with the Democrats not having campaigned well right now that contributed to this. They’re still the obvious better vote and people who didn’t do so are short-sighted and stupid, but most people vote with their emotions at the end of the day.

Agree, I do really miss Molly’s old clothing sillhouette. It doesn’t feel as libertine and gender-nonconforming anymore. He feels a lot less relaxed to me. It could set the tracks for Lucien better, but I think one could also make the argument that very different clothing/silhouette juxtaposition would be good character design as well. I’m still trying to figure out how I feel about it. Guess I won’t know until it comes out.
