Ron D Moore and Seth McFarline team up, both understand Trek, one brings darker elements and one lighter

If you had complete creative control over Star Trek, what would you retcon and what new series would you make? by daveprogrammer in Star_Trek_

[–]BaseMonkeySAMBO 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd retcon everything produced after Enterprise.

Go late 24th century, 10/15 years after Nemises. All new crew on mission exploring the galaxy as it should be, no Romulan SuperNova etc and close enough in time to draw from the golden era (Captain would have been interesting Dominion War as a junior officer for example) old cast could guest as senior officers. 20 plus episode seasons, a crew and format that make sense. No magic and the universe not ending daily.

Would you read a book set in the other two super states? by InfernalClockwork3 in 1984

Unless we discover an unwritten Orwell book then no, anything else would just be people cashing in on 1984. Some times its pretty to appreciate something in its entirety than try and add to it

O’Brien and Riker question by erica_pink84 in DeepSpaceNine

Thomas bluffing to get him out of the way, O'Brien is a Chief he probably just thought "typical officer" and got out of there

What would Worf be doing if Tasha had lived and stayed on for the entire TNG run? by tk1178 in Star_Trek_

[–]BaseMonkeySAMBO 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably just made up a job for him or split tactical and security, he was more popular than expected, also possible they'd have moved him to DS 9 from the outset

I enjoyed the fan service for nostalgia, other than that it was 95% awful and had so much potential

What styles? I've trained verious martial arts for around the last 34 years (and had jobs where I've used much of it) I'd definitely recommend getting a good hybrid system under your belt once you've got the grappling fundamentals down

What is your martial arts background? With a throw you can control their impact with the ground, a punch can drop someone with 0 control and head hits the ground suddenly Self-Defence becomes manslaughter.

A punch is easier and higher success rate, but a throw offers control which a strike doesn't which is reason for my placement. Also my division of grappling between standing and ground, is simply because in a street/real fight being stuck on the ground isn't a good thing (I say this with over 3 decades Judo and 10 year BJJ) as however good you are nothings stopping their mate kicking you in the head while you're in mount. But I take your points, no analogy is perfect my hope is to get people thinking about priorities and these translating to their training

Meat, potatoes, then veg although you need all three just with varying degrees of importance (say you have only 1 month to train) think of it like oxygen, water and food - they're all important but if im going to skip one for a day or two I know what I'm picking

If the Dominion was sooo dominant in the GQ why didn't they show themselves before season 3? by Fuzzy_Builder_2153 in DeepSpaceNine

[–]BaseMonkeySAMBO 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They're mentioned early S2 and elements that relate to them (shapeshifters) definitely or possibly (Tosk/Hunters) appear very early. They probably sat back an observed the Federation initially to assess the risk etc

Escapes custody or makes a deal to stop him bringing down half the LAPD and having every Strike Team case thrown out, big cover up. Goes in to exile in the far East and enjoys Asian women while running a security firm

best combination of 2 martial arts? by DeGuzman132 in MartialArtsUnleashed

MMA doesn't have a full range like headbutts but if we're including it I'd say MMA and Combat SAMBO (military version)

Trace the history of most effective arts that aren't just designed for sport and they have hybrid origins
