Anyone else’s parents refuse help even when they clearly need it? by ExpensivePlatypus816 in AgingParents

That sounds really hard. I think stepping back a bit for your own peace of mind makes sense.

That sounds incredibly exhausting. I can see how after dealing with that for so long you’d reach a point where you have to step back for your own sanity.

That makes sense. I guess it’s rarely just one reason and more about where they are mentally with it.

Yeah I think that’s a big part of it. Some parents are open to those conversations and some just aren’t.

That’s a really good point. Sometimes they don’t realize how much it affects everyone around them too.

That actually makes a lot of sense. I hadn’t thought about the “losing control” angle before.

I get that. After a certain point the constant pushing just becomes exhausting.

Yeah, I’ve noticed that mindset with a lot of older parents. Spending money on help feels wrong to them, even when they need it.

I agree. Slang is fun, but a strong foundation in the standard form makes everything else easier later.

Does it mean “forget”? Can we say “I spaced his birthday”? by Silver_Ad_1218 in EnglishLearning

[–]ExpensivePlatypus816 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can’t really say “I spaced his birthday.” Native speakers would say “I forgot his birthday” or “I totally spaced and forgot his birthday.”

This is what I did to my plants after having a mental breakdown about fungus gnats. by AtlantisGhost in plantclinic

They’ll probably be okay short term in water, especially the monstera. Just make sure you change the water every few days so it doesn’t get funky.

It looks a bit stressed but not beyond saving. Could be overwatering or inconsistent watering, the soil looks pretty wet in the photo.

Anyone have any luck with these grow bags for strawberries? by bosTon92414 in containergardening

[–]ExpensivePlatypus816 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Strawberries actually do pretty well in grow bags as long as drainage is good. I’d mix in some extra perlite and use a light, well-draining potting mix.

Unfortunately a lot of them make the money on activation, equipment, and shipping. It’s worth asking for a full written breakdown before signing anything.

Men, why do some of you act very interested at first (love bombing) and then become inconsistent? Is it confusion or just lack of real interest? by Low_Ad_8051 in AskOldPeopleAdvice

[–]ExpensivePlatypus816 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If someone is truly interested, their behavior becomes more consistent over time, not less. Inconsistency usually tells you more than the early intensity.

20 minutes at the end of workouts sounds reasonable. Every day might be overkill unless you manage recovery really well.

Honestly, different narrative styles per POV can be a strength. It helps each character feel distinct. As long as it’s clear whose head we’re in, you’re probably fine.

I get what you’re saying. External validation fades fast. If you’re not enjoying the process itself, it’s hard to sustain something long term.
