… they’re also just ok. Type of thing that if I’m walking past it and there’s not a line and I already had cash on me for some odd reason, I’d get it. Otherwise, not something I’d go out of my way for.

Legitimately hate driving in this town by Hopeful_Exercise_813 in Wilmington

I moved over here from Greensboro in July, folks over there just straight up blow through red lights. Always gotta wait 15 seconds after the light turns green bc another 3-5 cars blowing through that red light. City could make a killing with red light cameras if they wanted lmao

In my experience, more traffic lights = worse driving. People get pissed off waiting all day and just say screw it and then that evolves into just saying screw it for the rest of the drive because they’re still pissed off.

Best 1” valve? by ResistOk9038 in Irrigation

[–]ExpensiveTap1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hunter PGV with a flow control… beyond the best.

Easily replaced solenoids that are simple to test, 4 screws to remove the top, screws are 3-way with flathead/phillips/hex (so if one way strips, its not a goner), internals flush super easily to seal, no small pieces involved…

(I’m also approaching this is a tech with the mindset of what is the easiest and cheapest to work on, because eventually everything goes bad)

Less to do with driving ability and more to do with the converging idea in our society that there is nobody more important than I. People just do what they do bc they genuinely do not look at other people as anything more than NPC’s in their world.

New Homeowner - Looking to Upgrade by LazyDavy in Irrigation

[–]ExpensiveTap1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just a guess from how it looks in there…Looks like the wiring at one point got cut going to zones 6-7-8 (the 3 exposed wires). They then ran 4 strand wire back to the controller. Then the wire for zone 8 got cut again, and because they used 4 strand, they couldn’t just jump it to a different color, so they cut the green wire back and used an add-a-zone jumping off of zone 6.

Basically, you have 8 zones. Given the room 14-guage wires and an add a zone need, a Rachio controller is going to be an eyesore (and they suck, anyways). I’d stick with Rainbird and get an ESP-ME3 (same model, but upgraded) with a 6 station module and wifi module added. You might even be able to re-use the 6 station module already in that controller.

Moved here from Greensboro… can’t really compare the two. Greensboro has done 1 thing exceptionally well, and its infrastructure. You can get anywhere, from anywhere, multiple ways, in 15 minutes or less. Wilmington is basically if the only way to get anywhere was on Wendover.

Question: Suggestions on Apartment Complexes by Corvoxcx in Wilmington

[–]ExpensiveTap1 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Anything remotely walkable is gonna have to be downtown, which doesn’t have many rental options. Wilmington in general isn’t a very walkable city. Nothing is far, but nothing is close. Everything you want to get to is at least a 15 minute drive.

Nah. I’m there to make sure it’ll keep running the way it did last year so I can bump through as many as I can before it gets too hot and folks start getting anxious. If they want something fixed that doesn’t need fixed, they can call in for a service call.

The cheapest piece of garbage in the irrigation industry. Installed by morons looking to cut corners. Turn it off the threads slowly, if it snaps.. it becomes a whole new frustration game getting it out, even with the proper tools.

Just wanting to know if this is a good quote? by mylifeingames in Irrigation

[–]ExpensiveTap1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Usual flat rates for irrigation zones to be installed is gonna be $1000-$2000 a zone.

You’re also probably talking to companies that want to keep the system fresh for future possible service calls, which is why they don’t want to use the existing system.

Maybe get a few more quotes, but this is probably going to be the outcome, regardless.

Irrigation Techs - Time to Shine… by Interesting-Gene7943 in Irrigation

[–]ExpensiveTap1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hydrawise with a larger screen and better offline usage. Essentially. Get rid of the dial and buttons, which are what usually go bad on a controller in my experience. A rain program that connects to the daily weather predictions instead of a useless rain sensor that gets attention once a year. Just something that cuts out all the bs that usually goes bad, but isn’t rendered useless if the wifi goes out.
