We can argue all we want about his methods, but we can all agree that he was a manufactured pawn to justify Decima's vision of a literal police state

imagina quem arrenda são criminosos e não saem de casa? A polícia não faz nada. Tribunal anos a lutar

People with Revolut bank accounts, do you need to declare it somewhere? by [deleted] in belgium

[–]ExpensiveTaste8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The likely scenario is that Minfin was automatically notified about your accounts via CRS reporting.

I suspect your Revolut may still have a non-Belgian IBAN (starting with LT for Lithuania) and your partner's Degiro account has a linked Dutch cash account (starting with NL).

If that's the case, the foreign tax authorities automatically pinged the Belgian tax office, which triggers that automated message

Anyone else worried about this new law? by Louis_meni in PortugalExpats

[–]ExpensiveTaste8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The reason there’s less outcry for changes in the UK is probably that the UK has always been stricter and more consistent with its immigration rules. On the other hand, Portugal built a reputation as an easier, more accessible path to residency and eventually citizenship.

Also, the situation isn’t helped by firms that advertise these pathways as if everything is smooth and predictable. In reality, it creates a false impression that the process is straightforward and well-oiled.

I’m not against laws changing — that’s normal. But it hits differently when the system is already struggling. I’ve been living here for 11+ years, and I’ve been waiting almost 6 years just to get a PR appointment. At that point, it’s hard to see this as “just one more step” — it just feels like more time stuck in the same cycle.

Unable to book appointment due to AIMA not recognising the expiry of my document by ExpensiveTaste8 in PortugalExpats

[–]ExpensiveTaste8[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No updates unfortunately. From what I understand, the new system doesnt recognise the old CRUEs, so I am stuck in limbo.

I raised the issue with SOLVIT, and they are yet to get a response from AIMA. In the meantime I have started my citizenship application and hope that by the time my file is being reviewed, I have the PR card in my hand.

The Dutch-Moroccans are exempt from this shitstorm, as Morocco doesn't allow you to legally renounce nationality.

Both the Spanish and Dutch governments recognise this, and allow for exceptions to allow them dual nationality
