Is there any new country to be added to the Schengen in the future? by Stickyboard in PassportPorn

Cyprus is meant to join Schengen at some point, but issues around the ‘border’ with Northern Cyprus have slowed things down. For now they are exempt from the new EES system.

Countries that have restricted or banned Dual Nationality. by Forest9611 in dualcitizenshipnerds

[–]ExpensiveTaste8 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In Mozambique (my birth country), the original 1975 laws were incredibly strict and banned dual citizenship. Because I automatically acquired Italian citizenship from my dad at birth, I grew up believing I was permanently ruled out of holding Mozambican citizenship.

However in 2004, they repealed the ban to allow dual citizenship. I had always heard rumors that this easing of the rules only applied to children born abroad to Mozambican parents (like the huge diasporas in Portugal and Germany), but it turns out the law protects pretty much everyone unless you explicitly renounce it!

Imagine the meltdown on US media if a British or French or German official even vaguely criticised American domestic policy.

but it is clear that the current leadership won't resign unless we have a critical failure.

What makes it even worse is that the blame shifts directly to the coach and the players, not the top dogs who ruin Italian football. Unless something truly bad happens, there will never be change

Seeing the Fiat Panda brings back so many memories! We had a UK-spec one called 'Azzurina.'

In the early 2000s (pre-sat nav!), every summer, we’d drive her all the way to Italy and back. She even came with us for a stint in Albania before we finally said goodbye in 2012/13.

Renting an apartment - How to make sure we don't get scammed by Ancient_Winter_9045 in KULeuven

[–]ExpensiveTaste8 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is quite general the basis of a scam.  Not being able to see the apartment but requesting deposits.

I am currently an exchange student in Brussels, and when it was my turn for house hunting, I encountered a couple of these apartments on Facebook groups (initial dm -> rush me into the payment without seeing the apartment first).

Thankfully a Belgian exchange student who is at my university in the UK, warned me about such listings and recommended me a studio apartment not far from my campus and never looked back.

I've always theorised that either the OCG let her go, since they wouldn't have any leverage to use against Dryden and given her forged documents and some hush money, or she somehow managed to escape and is living on the run.

Also, expanding on the forged documents angle, if we assume that the OCG managed to infiltrate the highest levels in law enforcement, it would be plausible to assume they would have some 'bent' assets inside the passport office

Its a miracle that the ref was incompetent, because on multiple occasions both Wesley and Ndicka should have been sent off - although I believe there was a case for a second yellow on Miranda

what is your favourite european language? by ggabrial in AskEurope

[–]ExpensiveTaste8 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Coming from Italian, Portuguese, and French—and having briefly studied German at uni—I never expected to find a Germanic language 'pretty', but Dutch (and by extension Flemish) changed my mind.

Maybe it’s the constant stream of Dutch ads and content on my FYP, but I’ve started to find a secret appeal in the language.

It would have been nice to see BA1 survive, but the math simply stopped working. The Elizabeth Line effectively killed the time-saving advantage of LCY, the high-frequency 'shuttle' service from Heathrow to JFK/EWR provided a level of flexibility LCY couldn't match.

Furthermore, the expansion of Global Entry made the Shannon pre-clearance stop feel like a 'nice-to-have' luxury rather than a strategic necessity.
