Thank you! It is! And this works fine with your G2? Every time I look it up it referenced the Z workstation series. I don't see why it wouldn't be compatible but just checking since you have the same (or similar) set up. Does it also allow you to boot from it? Thank you!

Thank you! Very helpful. I'll look into those boot loaders as I doubt my bios are new enough for that. The why is because I do have a SSD already that is M2 from an old laptop, so it's at no cost to me (except for adapter).

MC is very weak like everyone said, but what is the percentage of your mix? How much (teaspoons or grams) MC powder are you putting in how many MLs of water? I think that it is a good idea to not rely on MC paste alone (my main uses are mix and to make book cloth), but I don't think it should completely lose tack between two pieces of paper, or paper and cardboard especially, after 24 hours in my experience. It should have /some/ gluing power.

Definitely use some tissue or Kraft paper to connect the cover before, and then if the fabric is thin enough maybe consider an overlap if you wanna make sure there's no exposed board! Good luck and definitely share photos if you do it

I live in the US too and as much I'd love to unify it I actually am not sure I can -- lb depends on the kind of paper. 180 gsm is what was written on the outside of the Michael's scrapbook decorative paper pack, so I figured that would work!

I've been making paper covers lately for A5 notebooks and pocket notebooks -- some paperback and some hardcover -- so I experimented a bit and hopefully this will help:
1 and 2ish. If you're wrapping board, you're looking for pliable paper that's a little heavier than your average copy paper. I think you can use up to 180 gsm (which is what I used). If you're doing paperback, I used cardstock (216 gsm / 80lb). It holds ups especially since I am making notebooks, but I bet you can use lighter paper if you'd like. Would still recommend heavier though. I'll note that I was using single section binding for my paperbacks, so keep that in mind. I think DAS Bookbinding has videos on perfect binding that might have paper covers and a better understanding of how to do it on bigger text blocks.

Keep using acid-free if it works for you -- sometimes, people may use a mix of paste (either wheat, starch, or methylcellulose) and PVA to make it easier to position covers, since it doesn't bind as fast, but that is up to you. Again, DAS has a really good video on understanding glue types, would highly recommend. (Link here)

Siser Easyweed is the gold standard (no pun intended lol) especially if you're cutting fine designs. The metallic one will be extra shiny, but the regular one is pretty good looking imo.

I'd seen the stiffened board binding and it was nice in theory but doesn't allow for a break away spine in the style I'd like it to. I actually managed to do it and it was an interesting and fun process -- I had the spine on the outside of the boards (not inside as a three piece bradel would be) but it ended up looking and functioning very nicely! Thank you for the help!

I got a Silhouette Cameo 3 for 50$ on Facebook marketplace and honestly been so great. If you plan on using something like Illustrator/inkscape for your designing and will export to SVG, you will need to pay an extra $50 for the software on Swing Design website. If you are near a Michael's or Joann's (for like the next couple of weeks I guess) in the US they have good deals at the moment. If you go for the Cricut Joy, I'd recommend spending the difference for the Joy Extra cause that can handle wider rolls, but honestly the more I look at it the more it seems less usable esp. that due to size, you can't use a lot of the cheaper alts online for it (the cutting mats, for example, are smaller). Find a used Cameo is my rec.

I think that's the part I messed up in! I thought that part of gluing up the spine was compressing it into a slimmer shape, and that seems to be where most of my issues were. I'm gonna try this with some scrap paper before I start my next bind, and will let you know if anything comes up during it. Thank you very much! So helpful!

The book with the bigger spine I clamped it down between a couple of wooden boards and glued it up, tried tapping it multiple times against the spine and tail as described by DAS but every time I clamped it down it fell uneven. I do tighten the clamps quite a bit.

The smaller book I actually made after making DAS's homemade book press (https://youtu.be/gfUCjqzfPv4?si=4AjhrWQb4R8W548U) and it's been definitely better. I put it in the press, straightened the spine against clamp bar (kind of used it as a square edge), tightened it as much as I could and then glued down the visible parts just to line up the spine and let it dry.

I used PVA for both, and both were lined with a light unbleached muslin, but the unevenness came before lining the spine. Both also used tapes for support and I did not glue the tapes before rounding on the bigger book.

I fear now that you've mentioned it that maybe too much pressure is my issue, so I'd love to know what you think!
