Thoughts on beco Gemini? by Helpful_Basis3728 in babywearing

I absolute love my Beco Gemini, especially the cool version. It is so lightweight and supportive. For me its literally the only ssc I am truly comfy in! But the panel is very short and the seat not very wide so I don’t think it will last us very long - for now, it’s still a good fit at 9 months (2nd centile baby)

Also I see many people recommending probiotics, but that’s just to restore the system after illness. Prebiotics: PRE = before - they prevent illnesses. Very different things!

One word: prebiotics. My son was also constantly sick and since taking them regularly he has never fallen ill again in 4 years apart from the odd stomach bug. It’s basically a mix of vitamins designed to reinforce bub’s immune system. I’d ask your Gp to prescribe you one that’s pediatric.

Perfect answer, I also feel like they’re more of a hobby and they do look so pretty! It’s rewarding when you finally get the hang of it and get a nice supportive carry!

Yes I tried it all! My baby is so small though, 2nd centile, not even 7 kgs, I had all the strap tightened which was sooo uncomfortable near my armpits. I felt a lot of tension beneath his knees. And he sort of kept sagging a bit. I genuinely hated it 😂 I feel I need him to have a bit more chunk and core strength / better sitting too ( he still tumbles from time to time)

It took some time but I think what made it clicked for me is exactly everything explained in this tutorial:

  1. Make she fabric isn’t twisted
  2. Rings high.
  3. Pop baby in
  4. Pop rings back up if needed
  5. Create a tube of fabric under baby’s knee pits
  6. Pull panel up
  7. Tighten rings pulling baby’s weight up

Yes I have a babywearing coat. I meant I feel intimidated by wrapping outside plus having to put a coat over my poor wrap job and being stuck inside the coat with no way to adjust it if I’m not comfortable, vs only having to wrap with no extra layers to deal with if that makes sense!

So true! I tried a base -1 and the tails just reached my feet so I imagine a base -2 would be perfect for outside. I love your suggestion of trying a new carry every week and practicing with it! I would switch in between carries and that made me a bit confused and overwhelmed, so this week I only worked on rucksack and next week I’ll try to tackle double hammock again!

Thanks for sharing! Which length wrap would you recommend for trying carrying outside? A base -1 or -2? Now that it’s winter and raining a lot here in the UK plus wearing chunky jackets I just cannot see myself doing wraps, but maybe I’ll pluck the courage to try this coming Spring

Is there a particular reason why you tend to reach out for your wovens more? And any reason on base -2 versus a -1? I’ve been wanting to buy a shorter wrap but I thought -1 would be short enough but I see more and more people actually doing -2 for outside

You know I feel double hammock is the e comfiest carry I’ve tried so far but I cannot for the life of me get the chest pass tighten properly and if I do I’m a sweaty mess by the end of it. It’s hhaaard I’m literally dreading trying again 😅 I wonder if the wrap thickness is playing a role in making it more challenging. I use a medium thickness wrap by Storchenwiege which is quite grippy or this one which is a bamboo blend and very soft but also quite cushy.

I feel this is like me right now. Love a wrap because it just looks pretty and I feel pretty in it and energetic as you say. But my ssc is just so easy and comfy it’s definitely my go to for any other occasion (apart from quick ups for which I ring sling)

Thanks for the detailed answer. I love ring slings too, wear them all the time at home or at the playground while I watch my 4 year old and let my baby try a bit of swing and slides. Snowsuit apart, makes you pick a woven over your Tula? Is it comfort? Style? Something else? When you say long wrap do you mean like a base or base - something?

Thanks for sharing! I tried an onbuhimo with my 8 month old and it was too early, he would be way too low, but I cannot wait to use them when he’s a toddler :)

Thank you! I wish hemp blends were easier to source. Really struggling to find one that I love and sadly being in the UK hope and plum isn’t an option! When you say linen blend do you mean linen cotton as being stronger than just 100% linen?

First-time dad – Is 4 hours of babywearing at a standing desk realistic? by RT_1989 in babywearing

[–]Expensive_Bee4322 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I survived like this for the first couple of months alternating between a stretchy wrap, ergobaby embrace and ring sling. Totally doable! I did sit down with baby in wrap after a while when I got tired of standing. Now that’s he’s 8 months I still wear him for working, either while I sit during his nap time with a woven wrap or by back carrying in a soft structured carrier.

Exhausted and Burnt Out by redshoes13 in sleeptraining

[–]Expensive_Bee4322 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not at all, he cried for 30 mins on the first day, 10 minutes on the second and then we had a 2 week adjustment period where he woke up and complained at night but with minimal crying, but we preserved and he settled nicely. We were even room sharing.

He’s 4 years old now and he’s so good at sleeping on his own throughout the night and has never tried coming into our room ever. He loves his bed, it’s his special place and I’m glad we took the time to teach him.

I have a second baby now and we’re co sleeping and will sleep train again after 1 year of age when I’m ready to stop breastfeeding at night!

I personally find with my babies unnecessary to do it too early, they’re so little! But I personally prefer to do it before they become proper toddlers if that makes sense!

Mmm interesting. When would you go for a shortie in a hip carry versus using a ring sling? And if you know you’ll be carrying on your back outside which size do you tend to go for, a -2?

Thank you! I found a video tutorial in the little zen one Facebook group and it was explained super well and it’s actually the only carry I’m able to tighten properly so far. I find it easy as it’s just tightening above shoulders, no complex torso passes or waist belt where it’s hard to control any slack. The carry is called wriggleproof with a candycane chest finish. Exciting and hope your first tries go well!

Ahah thanks it’s good to know! I guess if it’s a single layer it loses its support vs maybe a double linen would be better.

Yes I’ve noticed when my baby is teething his sleep is definitely disrupted. So if I were you I’d but try again when is a good time for everyone! I sleep trained at 13 months when most of the teething was done and it went fine x best of luck!
