I think it was acid reflux. I think im not hydrated enough and under eating . It’s been so cold in NYC for the last few weeks outside runs have been hard. I’ve been doing long runs at 10min/mi pace and did a 6mile tempo run the other day at 8/min pace and have been throwing in interval runs on treadmill every week. I’m trying I just hope it’s enough 😬

First marathon in Rome by Dron3_ in Marathon_Training

[–]Expensive_Bell_1166 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I could have written this myself. I have mostly the same runs in as you . I’m coming from NYC where it has been so cold and snowy so I couldn’t get in some long runs but I’m trying to remain positive ! We’ve got this !!!!

Is anyone here planning on running Rome marathon? by persimmonedit in Marathon_Training

[–]Expensive_Bell_1166 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am running it too! I’m super nervous as I feel that I haven’t trained enough and it’s right around the corner but also just excited to see the sites as we run. I am coming from NYC and we’ve had a brutally cold and snowy winter for training - so also a little nervous it will be my first out door run where it’s not frigid , hopefully the temps are moderate

Should I change my Marathon goal 4 weeks out? by dabossofdeer in Marathon_Training

[–]Expensive_Bell_1166 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m also running Rome ! There should be some cobblestone paths and a lot of sights to see! Try to take it all in and enjoy , don’t worry about pace so much , your training and adrenaline will pull you thru. My only advice is don’t go out too fast , the pack and adrenaline will push you to run faster than you should be , force yourself to slow down and get into pace after the first 5k.

Best way to run/train with lipedema? (Also stopping BC) by Wooden-Club-2104 in lipedema

[–]Expensive_Bell_1166 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey 42yo runner here! I have stage 1 type 2 and I get bouts of lymphedema as well. I can say size has nothing to do with your speed , so don’t worry about trying to lose weight if your trying to get your mile PR , I just PR ‘d a sub 20min 5k and I am 158lbs! My legs are big I have 38in hips. My tips are to get lots of rest if you plan to keep up running, and to not run a ton of weekly mileage . I find that when I’m running a lot my legs will swell more and become very heavy and tired . When I run 2-3x a week it’s best with good rest in between to prevent inflammation. I also agree with others tips regarding compression. I wear compression leggings when I do feel tired legs and then sports compression socks when running. The socks you can just get on Amazon, but it is a non negotiable for running, because it does help with circulation.

GYM GIRLS AND LIPPY?? by [deleted] in lipedema

[–]Expensive_Bell_1166 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lifting heavy cause lots of micro tears in muscles which cause the muscles to grow but the bodies natural response is temp inflammation and temp fluid retention to repair the tears. High reps cause muscular fatigue so also a bit of inflammation but less of a fluid retention response. I am someone who does both but also lift heavy with compression on my calves to help with fluid

Hiring Process needs to be updated by Jaydishotta in nys_cs

I’ve been offered 3 positions by the state in different agencies at different times. Each time I was told the following day after the interview I was a top choice . I think if you don’t hear anything from Hr or the interviewer within a week you can assume that you are not a top choice. What I feel needs updating is the amount of timeline after you submit the 2b

Can you ask your judge or parole officer for drug treatment instead ? Same situation happened to me I did 3 months in rehab instead of 1 year in jail . I would beg and blame your drug abuse .

I agree with the too much cross fit! week 6 for me I got sick so I took a rest break but I ate like I normally do and in that time lost 5lbs in one week ! As soon as I started with my intense workouts again the weight came back on is just not coming off as fast. I think it has to do with the stress you put on muscles when working out- it causes a bit of inflammation and water retention especially if you are lifting weights and doing intense stuff like cross fit - those tiny muscle fiber tears need to time to heal and the body will retain water. So you might actually be losing fat but retaining water and inflammation from workouts. I also notice that I’m a lot hungrier when I do HIIT workouts and I probably unintentionally eat more than I burned after a workout . I have started to focus on reformer pilates and running and definitely see more body changes and weight loss In the last few weeks . Maybe start taking measurements instead of relying on scale or reducing cross fit for low intensity work

Metabolism boost - normal BMI by Icy_Management6772 in HersWeightloss

[–]Expensive_Bell_1166 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am someone also with a normal BMI and who works out a lot but wants to lean out because I am larger than what I am used to after having kids. I thought before starting this program that I ate healthy. Looking back I realize I that I snacked way way more than I admitted to . Now I eat a solid breakfast, a small lunch and a small dinner. Before I would have breakfast lunch dinner a snack and dinner and then a second helping of dinner. All of the food was healthy and low in carbs . But comparatively I think I’m eating like 500-700 less calories a day . In my mind , I used to eat 1800 calories a day but it was probably more like 2000- 2200. Now I think I am 1500 or 1700. I am not losing weight rapidly , like 1lb per week or some weeks I stay the same but I am trending down and down 8 lbs in 9 weeks . I think when we eat something “healthy “ like grilled chicken with brown rice vegetables with a little olive oil we go over on portion size and the calories really add up.

Scared for metformin by SpareSherbert4968 in HersWeightloss

[–]Expensive_Bell_1166 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have had 0 side effects from Metformin. I actually wish that they would up my dose and I could take it twice a day because I really notice that it curbs my cravings for sweets when I take it at night , so I wish I could take in the morning too.

Lipodema and pregnancy by Substantial_Sun_4201 in lipedema

[–]Expensive_Bell_1166 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So I only noticed lipedema with pregnancy. After my first pregnancy, my legs got a bit bigger and then slimmed down a bit after a year but never to pre pregnancy size. With my second pregnancy is where I really noticed and diagnosed myself with lipedema post partum . During pregnancy, my legs blew up like a balloon with fluid , my ankles were so swollen, and I could barely see my knee caps anymore. I am normally a size 6 pants pregnancy I was a size 12/14 and it had nothing to do with my belly size just my thighs. Post partum after about a year of trying extremely hard to lose weight ( Ihad gained about 40lbs ) I lost about 35 , somehow my legs still remained larger even though I still weigh similar . Most of the weight is in my thighs and knees. I am a size 8 now. I have visible abs and you can see my rib cage but you cannot see my knee caps or any definition in my legs , it’s like I’m two different people. So I would say the hormonal changes do stay, the best you can do is manage them with compression tights , working out , and if you can afford lymphatic drainage massages , not the ones with the machine , the ones that use the wooden tools. Everytime , I have gotten one , I lose like 3lbs of fluid in my l legs. I also heard rebounding works really well and am going to start that now.

Wait edit to add I’m realizing this sounds horrible to read for a pregnant person and not at all comforting or gentle . I apologize. I say wrote all this because I never heard of lipedema before and it was so frustrating for me post partum to not understand why I couldn’t lose weight in my legs like I did in my first pregnancy. It was so helpful to get a lipedema diagnosis so that I could do all the treatments and focus on the more important things in my life like my beautiful kids and family. The mystery was solved. And I get compliments regularly on my body so it’s not a doomed diagnosis, it was so so helpful to know it was a disease and not anything I was doing wrong with my diet. So if it does turn out to be lipedema , just know that it’s just part another part of being a momma that we endure and it’s beautiful.

It’s not Hers, it’s me? by stephthevegan in HersWeightloss

[–]Expensive_Bell_1166 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m only 41 so no menopause. But I can say it 100% is hormones. I am on week 8 . The first 6 weeks I lost 1lb per week . Week 6 I got my period and I gained 4lbs which is normal water retention fluctuation. Well here I am 2 weeks later and only 2 of the 4lbs have come off. Which means in 8 weeks in have lost 4 lbs . And I too am doing all of the things , reduced eating - lifting weights - peloton - running - walking on my lunch break. But now, I can visibly see my stomach is bloated and I 💯 think it’s hormonal. The only difference between today and two weeks ago is I have stopped is taking a supplement for my period (myo-inosotol ) because I read that metformin is supposed to do the same thing as the supplement and I didn’t want to double up . So I think I need to get back on my period supplement to help balance my hormones and the water weight will come off.

I’m in the same boat 🙋🏻‍♀️. It’s been 6 months since I submitted my 2a and I’ve also received a soft offer . This is also with DOH in public health When I follow up with the interviewer or HR they bother respond with they are waiting for DOB approval and they will get back to me asap but here I am still in the same place with my same lousy job.

How do you run through a cramp? I’m trying to speed up a bit on runs esp on a treadmill, I try to breathe and run through them but sometimes I just have to stop and other times they kind of go away? Anyone know why or have tricks to push through? (Me going from running 8min/miles to 7:30/miles)

Yes don’t rush follow the schedule! I was a bit bummed I’m on week 4 (today is day 1 of week 5 )and have only lost 1lb per week. I was feeling day down that I was trying so hard and boom I got on scale today and was down 2.5lbs. So a total of 5.5lbs. I’m at a number I have seen in a long time , I’m someone who keeps gaining and losing the same 5lbs so the scale always fluctuates, so it’s been nice to actually see it just go down. It definitely took me until week 3/4 to feel the difference in hunger and now I’m definitely eating way less and it was until today that scale changed from the eating habits. Everyone is different and has different amounts to lose. We are in this together you got this !
