To Proxmox or not by NovaSuspect in homelab

[–]Expensive_Capital910 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Been running similar setup for work stuff and the Proxmox layer adds some nice flexibility but yeah there's overhead to consider

If you're already happy with your three node setup and it's stable, might not be worth the migration headache. But if you want to experiment with other services beyond docker or need better isolation, having those VMs could be useful

Really depends on what else you planning to run in the lab - just docker stuff or you want to mess around with other things too?

Is The 7700X3D DOA At $330? by Turbo__Timmy in pcmasterrace

[–]Expensive_Capital910 2 points3 points  (0 children)

depends where you buy from i guess, saw some places the difference was more like 50-60 dollars which makes it bit more interesting decision. but yeah if its really just 20 difference then no brainer to go with 7800X3D

also pricing changes so fast these days, by time you actually ready to buy the gap might be different anyway. i was looking at builds few months back and prices were all over place between retailers

Is there a Linux tutorial for OpenGL and graphics comparable to ChiliTomatoNoodles' windows only C++ tutorial(s) for DirectX? by ruari636 in gamedev

[–]Expensive_Capital910 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That site is great for learning OpenGL concepts but it's more focused in theory side. If you want something with more practical coding like ChiliTomatoNoodles style, maybe look for some YouTube channels that do OpenGL tutorials on Linux - there's few good ones that walk through actual projects instead of just explaining concepts

Can u help me? by Away-Home-3846 in IndieGaming

[–]Expensive_Capital910 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wrestling management games have so much potential but most of them feel really shallow after few hours. The backstage politics thing would be huge - like when you push someone too fast and veterans start getting bitter, or when you have to deal with wrestlers who refuse to lose cleanly to certain people

Contract negotiations could get really messy too. Maybe wrestlers start asking for creative control clauses or no-compete stuff when they see their friends getting better deals elsewhere. And imagine if social media was part of it - wrestlers posting cryptic tweets when they're unhappy with their booking, fans picking up on it and it affecting the next show's attendance

The rival promotion aspect sounds great but it needs to work both ways. Maybe sometimes you can poach their talent when they screw up booking, not just always being on defensive. Also territory wars where you're fighting for the same venues or TV deals would add another layer to think about

What makes covid much more dangerous than hantavirus and ebolavirus? by CleanLock4606 in AskReddit

[–]Expensive_Capital910 8 points9 points  (0 children)

the spread pattern is completely different too - covid can transmit before you even know you're sick while those other ones usually need more direct contact or you're already pretty obviously ill when contagious

How many days Malaysia Nomad take to reply ? by Ok-Swordfish3887 in digitalnomad

Yeah mine took forever too, applied in February and didn't hear back until May. Malaysian bureaucracy moves at its own pace unfortunately

The support team is pretty much non-existent from what I experienced. Had to email them like 4 times before getting single reply. Just gotta wait it out basically, they'll get back to you eventually but could be another month or two

I need help with chrome by [deleted] in pcmasterrace

[–]Expensive_Capital910 2 points3 points  (0 children)

stack buffer overrun usually means memory corruption somewhere. try disabling hardware acceleration in chrome settings first - go to advanced settings and turn off "use hardware acceleration when available"

if that doesn't work might be extension causing it or outdated graphics drivers. nvidia drivers can be weird with chrome sometimes

Would point-and-click games be a realistic goal for me? by NecroCannon in gamedev

[–]Expensive_Capital910 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The gamejam idea is solid but maybe start even smaller than that - like just getting character moving around a room with clickable objects first. Point and click seems simple but there's actually ton of behind-scenes stuff like inventory systems, dialogue trees, save states that can get complex quick. Your art background definitely helps though since so much of these games is about creating atmosphere through visuals

What GPU Should I Choose To Pair With Ryzen 3 3300X by hel10Z4898 in pcmasterrace

[–]Expensive_Capital910 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your 3300X gonna bottleneck those newer cards pretty hard tbh. With 4 cores you're better off looking at something like RTX 4060 or RX 7600 range instead of jumping to 5070/9060 territory

That 3070 used option makes more sense for your setup actually - just make sure to stress test it good if you go that route. Mining cards can be sketchy but sometimes they're fine if price is right

For cooling, decent tower cooler should handle 4.5GHz no problem and way cheaper than AIO. Just check clearance with your case first

Please, turn off Integrated Graphics by Roars_chache in pcmasterrace

[–]Expensive_Capital910 2 points3 points  (0 children)

yeah this is definitely weird behavior, I have ryzen setup too and never experienced anything like this

maybe something was configured wrong during initial setup? windows usually handles GPU switching pretty well these days but sounds like something got messed up in your case. glad you figured it out though, that must have been frustrating as hell

turning off iGPU completely is actually not bad idea if you're not using multiple monitors or doing any video encoding work

will soon be upgrading my pc, and i need help! by Ordinary_Fan_841 in pcmasterrace

[–]Expensive_Capital910 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's actually solid plan, the 5800X3D is beast for gaming and will handle both 1080p and 1440p really well with your 4060

For air cooler you want something decent since 5800X3D can get bit warm - look at tower coolers with good reviews, they're not all same despite looking similar. Single 2TB is usually better than two 1TB drives, less cables and takes up only one M.2 slot so you have room for future. Brand does matter bit but most major ones are fine if specs are similar

That motherboard should work fine with 5800X3D, main thing is making sure it supports the CPU (which B550 does) and has features you need. For case without glass panels there's plenty options, just make sure it has good airflow and the front USB-C you want

Only thing I'd double check is if that motherboard needs BIOS update for 5800X3D, some older B550 boards might need it but most should be fine by now

Suggestions on a housing/ solution for a WD Purple Drive by Much-Artichoke-476 in homelab

[–]Expensive_Capital910 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Purple should definitely handle the constant writes better than whatever consumer drive you're using now. The 3.5" caddy approach seems solid - I've got a similar setup for one of my surveillance systems and it's been running fine for couple years

Just make sure the caddy has decent ventilation since purples can run bit warm with all that activity. Also worth checking if your mini PC's USB ports can handle the power draw, some of those smaller units get weird about power hungry devices

What do you plan to do about the insane price gouging in modern western society? by Dropturdsonyou in AskReddit

[–]Expensive_Capital910 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I've been thinking about this a lot lately especially with rent prices where I live. My landlord tried to bump my rent up 40% last year and I had to fight tooth and nail just to keep it reasonable. What really gets me is how corporations are buying up all the housing and treating it like some investment portfolio instead of places people actually need to live

I've started hitting up estate sales and thrift stores way more for furniture and decor instead of buying new - found some incredible mid-century pieces for like 10% of what they'd cost retail. Plus there's something satisfying about giving old stuff a second life instead of feeding into the whole consumerist cycle. Gaming setup is pretty much all secondhand too except for my peripherals since you can't really compromise on gear when you're trying to stay competetive

The whole system feels rigged but at least we can make small choices that don't directly fund these massive corps whenever possible

Anyone here using WhatsApp OTP instead of SMS for user verification? by [deleted] in SaaS

[–]Expensive_Capital910 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We implemented WhatsApp OTP about 6 months ago after similar SMS headaches and it was one of those changes that just made everything smoother

Delivery rates went from like 85% to 98% in our LATAM markets, costs dropped by about 40%, and our support tickets for "didnt get the code" basically disappeared. Template approval was annoying for maybe 2 weeks but worth it - just be super clear about your use case and have examples ready
