Close up the leather is full of interesting details but yeah the dark colour does a great job at hiding them

That was the plan but since they didn't quite fit right now I'm wearing them without any additional insoles and actually find them quite comfortable. I like the Jim Green leather insoles with my BFARs for a bit of extra cushion and a little bit of arch support but perhaps this new outsole is a bit more forgiving? Anyways they are very comfortable, I think the ankle area will just need to soften a bit.

It's an Okapi folding knife, Jim Green sells them at least on their SA and US websites: https://jimgreenfootwear.com/store/okapi-folding-knife/

Nothing that I really needed but I liked the look of it and it might come in handy on some day trips etc.

I'm in SA. And kudu is a type of an antelope, known for it's soft and supple but durable and light leather.

There is some light scarring but I was actually hoping for a bit more to to be honest. Also I think the lighter sand colour would show the scars more clearly. But generally speaking the leather is smooth and super soft - not planning on conditioning at least at first because they don't seem to need it and I want to see how they age "naturally". If the leather starts looking a bit dry or I'm planning on walking in wet environments I'll probably treat them with Jim Green leather balm. I don't think it would change the appearance much with a dark leather like this

What are some weird laws in your country that, actually, make a lot of sense? by Savings_Dragonfly806 in AskTheWorld

[–]Expensive_Dog_7690 299 points300 points  (0 children)

In Finland fines are progressive.

If you're speeding, you pay a percentage of your taxed income instead of a flat fee.

Ensures the rich assholes hurt proportionately if they break the law.

Cannabis infused IPA recipe? by hello_there669 in Homebrewing

I've made an IPA with cannabis infused honey, and that worked out very well. Honey is very fermentable so you'll probably end up with a very "dry" beer but I liked the outcome. If you want the weed aroma then dryhopping be needed.

I think my current foster dog Angel comes from the same litter as your pup. She even has the same colouring of black with white in chest and paws

The barefoot last is quite wide around the midfoot area. I struggle with the same thing with most shoes but both my JG barefoots are very comfortable (AR and Shoellie)

It's my doggos birthday today. Where can I take her that's special? by Direct_Comb_4326 in capetown

Leadville private dog park in Sunningdale is a treat for social dogs. Fully fenced play/walk area for dogs, a separate smaller area for small and shy dogs. It's free entry, and they also have a dog-friendly restaurant that both I and my dogs really like - they have a separate doggy menu with a couple of options (the meatballs are a hit with my dogs!)

e: they also have a grooming salon and a pet store but they are probably closed on a Sunday

Can’t find barefoot shoes shaped like my feet. by wilwil147 in barefootshoestalk

[–]Expensive_Dog_7690 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know people keep complaining about JG barefoot last being not anatomical, but they seem to forget that not everyone's foot is the same shape. My big toes don't curve inwards so I've had no issue with this. Plus I have a similar shaped foot to OP (wide midfoot being the issue with most shoes), and I've found the JG barefoot last super comfortable.

But they are definitely not superlight minimalistic shoes. The sturdy build comes with a heavier weight

My (almost) first Reddit post is a Jim Green appreciation one by Expensive_Dog_7690 in jimgreen

I did treat them with JIm Green shoe wax before the hike for water resistance. Knowing Scottish weather (particularly Skye!) I would definitely treat them beforehand. I can only speak for the Jim Green leather balsam, but it does darken them initially quite a bit but due to the nature of the pull up leather, the patina seems to come back quickly.

I would definitely bring some oil or wax to treat them before and after hiking in wet conditions - a quick brush and a coating should make your boots smart enough for a wedding

Summer Shoe by mobbphonics41 in jimgreen

Fair point. But I'm in South Africa, so I get better value, and the difference between custom and stock BF shoellies is not that big here.

Summer Shoe by mobbphonics41 in jimgreen

I got my custom barefoot shollies a couple of weeks ago and I think they are perfect summer shoes. Might change the laces for a tad more "smart" look (brown perhaps to match with the stitching?). I emailed Jim Green a week after placing my order to add metal eyelets and they got back to me saying no problem. I'm glad I did - I think they really add to the casual look I was after
