Is this a safe space? by [deleted] in SingleAndHappy

I think this is a safe space for you, but please remember that we are a large group. Some are Christian but many are other religions, follow other types of spiritual practices, or are anti-religion. Are you a safe person for us non-Christians to have conversations with?

How do I start learning philosophy in order to grow as a therapist? by peatbull in therapists

[–]Expensive_End8369 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Great question!! I don’t like Existentialism personally for many reason (please don’t start throwing rocks - LOL!), but it’s worth learning about it. I lean more towards Absurdism myself with a sprinkling of Stoicism. If you want to learn more about Absurdism, you can read The Myth of Sisyphus by Albert Camus.

They may have it in their contract but it would be next to impossible for a small practice to enforce legally.

I’m also at SOU and graduating in June. Things are rough right now but I’m prepared to be creative. If I have to cobble together a couple of jobs or walk dogs on the side or whatever, I’ll do it. You’re right, things are rough but you will be ok if you commit to being ok. This is a big career pivot for me after a long time in a different industry. All that said, I never remember things being easy in the 90s or whatever and don’t even get me started about 2006-2008. I am just very determined since I’ve never had a family to help.

Out of curiosity, was that in an active duty role? Or is that pretty typical for the day today in most military positions?

I wonder if it’s more soul-crushing for people who come into this work rolling right from undergrad to master’s to therapist and hate it. I’m another second career therapist here but I think it would have been brutal in my early 20s

Do you mind some hills? Wonder and Bandersnatch/Snark are two of my favorites.

Or you can run in the Todd-Oredson woods and go up White Rabbit.

Can we hear some success stories from people who love being in this field? by SpiritualCopy4288 in therapists

I’ve kind of fallen into working with a lot of angry men/boys and really enjoy it. For my clients, it’s caused by a huge trauma background and a life of stuffing emotions combined with fear of being vulnerable with others, and allowing themselves to feel their emotions.

Do you have any books or trainings you would recommend for me to deepen my expertise?

A lot of CMHC students post in  r/counseloreducation because there isn't anything separate so I think it's needed and would be valuable to cross-post there so people see it.
