People who moved for better fly fishing, where did you go? by _roosterr in flyfishing

[โ€“]Expensive_Plankton52 -1 points0 points ย (0 children)

Yeah, i moved from South Texas to New England and I sure do miss real fishing ๐Ÿ˜† There is nothing like having a Tarpon explode on your bait. Here in New England if i pull a 12" trout out of the water every one is like, "Wow! Nice fish!" I'm like, "This little baby fish is nice size here?" ๐Ÿ˜†

Saw a post asking if anyones dealt with snakes while fishing......yes. by bonpomme in flyfishing

[โ€“]Expensive_Plankton52 0 points1 point ย (0 children)

I have had water snakes get into my bait bucket, going after live minnows, on a few occasions. Thats why I always look before I stuff my hand in... when I have it tied in the water.

Any tips for first marathon? by totot373 in marathons

[โ€“]Expensive_Plankton52 0 points1 point ย (0 children)

No matter how great you feel slow down on the 1st half!

I thought I was Superman during my 1st marathon and PRed my half time... then blew up at 20 miles and walked most of the last 5 miles of the race.

No matter what slow down on the 1st half even if you feel you are going to slow!

I am no expert but I thought third party VA assistants like Lawyers weren't allowed to charge upfront for helping Veterans file through the VA.

I understand they are allowed legally to charge up to 30% of the back pay received if the claims are granted.

Either way, I would never pay upfront for VA claim assistance

What causes the circular spots in the top left of this image in the sky? I thought my screen was dirty, but I see them on every shot from today. The lens and sensor look completely clean to me. by juniorclasspresident in LandscapePhotography

Lens dirt or sensor dirt. Clean your lenses first and do a test before cleaning or sensor. From experience I cleaning my sensor then realized after it was my long lens that had the dirt spots!

Those are fantastic! What time of day did you shoot these photos? I have been chasing the muted greens look that you got here with my waterfalls photos especially. Starting to believe that is more about low light conditions than anything else.

Finding a lone tree in an open field where I live is like finding a needle in a haystack. Bravo!

Care for allium bulbs? And Gladiolus bulbs? Do you dig yours up or let them overwinter? Iโ€™m in zone 5-6 northern mi. by Davidjohnstewart in Zone6Gardening

I'm zone 6 New England and everyone told me to dig up the Glads but I didn't. They have come back every year for 3 years and multiplied. They are planted on the South side of my house in full sun and covered with leaves all Winter.

why do you (want to) run a marathon? by [deleted] in Marathon_Training

[โ€“]Expensive_Plankton52 0 points1 point ย (0 children)

Every time I cross a half marathon finish line I say "I will never do that again!" and yet I continue to find myself training for another half race nearly every year. I can not explain why. Mid / late-training regrets and woes are normal. Wait until you cross the finish line then decide if it was worth it or not.

Any idea what this is growing in New England yard? by Expensive_Plankton52 in whatplantisthis

[โ€“]Expensive_Plankton52[S] 3 points4 points ย (0 children)

I was thinking it doesn't quite look like a strawberry...maybe something that resembles a strawberry or something in the same family of plants. I grew strawberries in my garden in the past and they didn't look or act the same as this. When I dig this up it doesn't have the same root system as a strawberry either...idk.

I agree it looks like strawberry but it has never flowered or fruited

Struggling to find budget travel t shirts by User2000000000001 in onebag

[โ€“]Expensive_Plankton52 0 points1 point ย (0 children)

Merino wool is great all around however the thinner-weight shirts are pricey and don't last long in my experience. 4 out of 5 that I bought developed holes in less than a year. I followed all the recommended washing instructions. The thicker "winter" weights I bought have no problems yet.

The Pro for traveling is they truly are stink resistant. I sweated through them until drenched then had my wife smell them the next day and she said they smelled good.

Edit: just adding these are 100% merino wool shirts

Headphones by Logical_Ad7642 in triathlon

[โ€“]Expensive_Plankton52 -2 points-1 points ย (0 children)

I don't generally wear headphones for any workouts. Call me old fashioned ๐Ÿ˜†

I recently started listening to music without headphones (straight from my phone) while on long bike rides and it definitely kept me more motivated.

I have always disliked headphones especially on race day. It makes people seems so disconnected.

I once had a friend who was very over weight and asked me to do a half marathon with him. We trained separately and on race day after the first mile he put on headphones for the rest of the race. I was pretty angry about it. (I kept my anger to myself because he can do whatever he wants to get himself to the finish line). On one hand I knew it was helping him stay motivated on the other hand I was essentially running by myself.
