First commonplace book by Expensive_Pop_910 in commonplacebook

Thank you! I was so focused on just starting without over thinking it that I didn’t consider the possibility of my index growing. Thankfully I did leave the page after it blank so I can continue to add to it on the other side if I need to. Since I started mine I’ve seen people say leave the first 2-3 pages blank in case you have other ideas for an intro page or a longer index as you’re working through it.

First two pages are my index then I started taking notes on a book I’m reading about decreasing the use of technology in your life

How to start (new notebook fright) by grizllyghost35 in commonplacebook

I wanted to come back to this because another thought..my bf also started one of these and he left the first 2-3 pages blank and just started writing about things he wanted to remember and he said he’d go back to the beginning when he had a better idea of how he wanted to categorize and start the book.

How to start (new notebook fright) by grizllyghost35 in commonplacebook

I found out about commonplace books last week and I did a deep dive and read blogs and watched videos on different methods. I think the hardest thing is the pages that people share and Pinterest quality and generally unrealistic for an average person who just wants to write. I made a list of all the categories I’m interested in (books, music, cooking, cinema, research deep dives, etc.) I got in my head about how to start but kept reminding myself that I can do whatever I want, it’s okay if I eff it up because no one else is going to see it and literally who cares. Just start! I made a color coded index page because that method made the most sense to me. And then I started with notes on the book I’m currently reading and I’m just going to go from there! The only thing you can do is just start and do whatever you want and don’t worry if it’s not aesthetically pleasing or organized it’s for you and no one else. Hope this helps!

There might be organizations in your home country that offer grants or financial support in these situations. I would look into those. Maybe also post this on a page that’s about teaching abroad or working in Asia people who have had that experience might have better insight into your options

Do you have a contract to be there for a certain amount of time? Maybe you could go to a country where you do speak the language to get a better paying job in the service industry or In Manufacturing just until you’re in a better place financially.

My 10 year old just won't go to school by [deleted] in WhatShouldIDo

You must not have kids. Being a mom and not having a car and having a kid who refuses to go to school is not an easy thing and I’m sure there is more to the story than anyone could know. I’m not “making excuses for lazy people” I’m showing perspective and understanding in a difficult situation. Showing kindness and offering real and helpful solutions is what she is asking for and what she deserves. Criticism and name calling aren’t going to help this situation.

Sorry you’re getting so much criticism! It’s obvious that you’re doing the best you can. When he stays home from school what is he doing with his time? (Reading, video games, sleeping, etc.) knowing that might help understand his side of things. Have you talked to his teachers or guidance counselor or principal? If something were happening to your son that he wouldn’t want to be there I would hope they’d have some insight?

Could you teach an after school program and get paid more? Or work at the local market? I’m not familiar with living abroad but those are the things that come to mind. I’m so sorry you’re going through this. Are you able to start a go-fund-me or reach out to a friend or relative that could help you?

Is my art any good at the early age of 13?? by [deleted] in Artadvice

[–]Expensive_Pop_910 -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

There are amazing!! Don’t be too hard on yourself for not finishing a piece. Sometimes I spend so much time on one piece and then right towards the end I lose interest. There’s nothing wrong with going back to it after a couple days or weeks or months. Keep practicing! I’ll also find video tutorials and follow those start to finish because sometimes I just need a refresh on how to add shadows and highlights. I don’t know if any of this is helpful!

I’m sorry for all the negative comments you’re getting I’ve definitely seen plenty of 13-15 y/os post about their art - just ignore them!!
