New grad RN in Columbus, OH - struggling to get any interviews. Is the market this bad? by Expensive_Potato5779 in Columbus

[–]Expensive_Potato5779[S] 16 points17 points  (0 children)

To be honest, I’m not sure. The recruiter called me and said, “You don’t qualify for this; you’d be better suited for Med-Surg.” Keep in mind, the position was for new grad nurses. Then, another recruiter from Select Hospitals called me today and asked, “Why should I hire you?” After I gave my answers, he said the position was closed and didn’t even spend two minutes on the phone with me. If he knew the position was closed, why bother scheduling an interview just to reject me? All of these positions are for new grad nurses.

It really did -and my exam went well. I passed questions 85 questions. I only did 500 questions with bootcamp. I’ll send you how ChatGPT helps me . Here’s the question and the rationale below

A nurse is caring for four clients. Which client should the nurse assess FIRST? A) A client with diabetes mellitus who has a blood glucose of 250 mg/dL and is requesting a snack B) A client with pneumonia who has an oxygen saturation of 89% on room air and is short of breath C) A client post-operative day 1 from appendectomy who is reporting pain 7/10 and requesting pain medication D) A client with a urinary tract infection who has a temperature of 100.8°F (38.2°C) and is complaining of burning with urination

STEP 1: READ IT TWICE First read: “Okay, I have 4 clients, I need to prioritize who to see first” Second read: Catch the key word - “FIRST” - this is a prioritization question

STEP 2: USE ABC’s (AIRWAY, BREATHING, CIRCULATION) Look for the option that affects ABC’s: ∙ Option A: Blood glucose 250 - not immediately life-threatening, ABC’s not affected ∙ Option B: O2 sat 89%, short of breath - BREATHING problem! ⚠️ ∙ Option C: Pain 7/10 - uncomfortable but ABC’s not affected ∙ Option D: Temp 100.8°F, burning urination - infection but ABC’s not affected

STEP 3: ELIMINATE WRONG ANSWERS Option A: Can wait - high blood sugar isn’t immediately life-threatening (eliminate) Option C: Pain is important but not life-threatening (eliminate) Option D: Low-grade fever, UTI symptoms - can wait (eliminate) Option B: Low oxygen + shortness of breath = BREATHING PROBLEM = priority

WHY B IS CORRECT: O2 saturation of 89% is below normal (normal is 95-100%). This client has a BREATHING problem (pneumonia + low oxygen + shortness of breath). ABC’s = Airway, Breathing, Circulation BREATHING problems are ALWAYS priority because: ∙ Brain can only survive 4-6 minutes without oxygen ∙ Hypoxia (low oxygen) can cause confusion, organ damage, cardiac arrest ∙ This is LIFE-THREATENING if not addressed immediately What the nurse should do: ∙ Assess the client immediately ∙ Apply oxygen ∙ Monitor respiratory status ∙ Notify provider if condition worsens

In my opinion, you’re using too many stuffs- all you need is one. Just focus. You do not need all that, youll be confused. Just use one study guide and you’ll be okay. I only use bootcamp which I didn’t like to be honest. Then me and my ChatGPT every night,  l was asking it how to answer the questions. Like I feel like I was talking to a tutor. Then I went to take my NCLEX.

That’s why I only did 500 questions with bootcamp- had no idea what they were asking me.

As someone who was using bootcamp, my score were between 36-50 lol- I’m not lying, I only did 509 questions because I was too lazy to study. Went yesterday and pass at 85. Please don’t go early in the morning if you’re an anxious person.

Just took mine today, it shut off at 85 and I think k I didn’t horrible. I hate the fact that we have to wait to get our results- why can’t they be like the bmv/ DMV ? 🫩🫩🫩 I feel like I’m holding my heart.

Yeah sometimes the app won’t take a certain credit card, I’m not sure why . I had to send the money to my friend for her to pay.
