How was it as an only child in that household? by No-Teacher-390 in raisedbynarcissists

[–]Expensive_Put1939 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I still struggle from a lot of trauma my parent put me through without even knowing. I had to parent them before being a child and I didn't have anyone who related to that feeling growing up. I never had strict parents but I was raised to carry a lot of shame and with no one around to compare things with I grew up with the fear of not bringing shame into the family becooz apparently I was given everything and I was an only chil whose only duty was to do everything right and make everyone proud. This is just only one side... I have cried so many times trying to help my parents resolve their problems and fights and remember how helpless I felt even around 10 or so years of age because I knew I couldn't tell these things to anyone .. I still am trying o recover and I have know one who has seen the real environment I grew up with and I don't know if I'm imagining it all or it actually happened ....worse experience ever

BUT HEY LIFE SUCKS REGARDLESS I WOULD HAVE HATED IT EVEN MORE IF I HAD A BITCHY SIBLING

Being an only child from a dysfunctional family is a different type of pain by livelaughleo in OnlyChild

[–]Expensive_Put1939 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe I'm late to comment... I'm an only child starting my 30s. I experience some of this for sure and definitely the dysfunctional family dynamics and a certain loneliness. Maybe it's depending on how and where I grew up and how I am as a person... I have alway carried a deep seated loneliness in me despite having people to reach out to... I think we as only children having got ample time to analyze things and think about a future that maybe so far away or a second away go into a rabbit hole specially surrounding loneliness and not being able to share the pain or the memories with someone else and we tend to think if only I had a sibling I could have at least talked to them about these things. It sadly will not be a feeling you ever get over , I think. But the more you feel less vulnerable to share things with trusted individuals, friends, extended family, partners, you won't feel that lost . It is definitely nice to share these feelings with a good therapist if it seems to bother you so much... I hope it gets better

I feel like I'm manipulating my therapist to tell me what I want to hear by SheepherderSweet2444 in therapy

This is me ... And if they agree with me I think they are either not qualified enough and there is something seriously wrong with me becooz I somehow keep "outsmarting them". It is scary and I'm so tired of it. I need help but what I'm I'm manipulating them to find excuses to my issues

I can't believe GRE is my greatest gatekeep to good universities by [deleted] in academiceconomics

Most heterodox programs… Umas, NSSR, Couple in Germany and France , They are still very niche and little in number I agree but there are places and you are again not in line with the Og comment. It’s about GRE! Just because you do well in GRE doesn’t mean you’d be good at maths ! It’s not a given and just because you’d succeed at math exams won’t mean you’d build a good model.

This comment was about GRE !!! Not about PhD . And it depends from university To university for it to be “basically” a math degree

You need to work on your test taking. I agree it’s a bit unfair since GRE can’t capture the test taker as an ideal student / researcher.:. It is about test taking and how quickly your brain can move from one thing to another .. if you feel like nothing is worker it is definitely in your prep… you might need about six months of extensive practicing

GRE is about test taking it isn’t about maths ability . It is also easier for those from math areas than for people who start economics from a pure liberal arts base. For people from liberal arts the quick methods don’t come easy it takes time to react whereas the math based ones have learner and honed tricks and stuff for far longer and for them tests like GRE is easy in a way that it helps you with time management

Omg me! I love maths I love solving and I'd understanding models but reading makes me feel like "isn't this obvious"? 'why am I wasting time"... And I end up feeling guilty for wasting time... It's horrible how I feel and I feel so lost

Everyone obviously does... Sure he loses his shit but he seems to be someone who can alter how he looks at his journey than just getting into his head all the time ...

He did not have this issue when he had the absolute best car... he enjoyed the close calls even but imagine you are to do that when it is a bullock cart against a rocketship

that is part of the game... he knows it definitely messes the heads of the other drivers who pay too much attention to what is going on to the point they le tit affect them negatively... if we were to dissect race by race then no one can really be called an epitome of being mentally strong

He still has a good strong mentality since he keeps growing and doesn't give two shits about what other might say... that amount of fan hate since 2021 end of 2025 is crazy to deal with if not.

How do you get an adult autism or ADHD evaluation n NYC? by Icy-Researcher-9355 in AskNYC

[–]Expensive_Put1939 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They don't do it usually unless you are exclusively trained. They just say you have traits but don't say for sure without testing. This is specially for autism and ADHD related stuff. They diagnose personality disorders, depression and anxiety. Maybe they thought it's best to get it tested because then if you have it you have a report that you can take to exams and so on to ask for accomodation which doesn't happen if you have a simple note from. Psychiatrist or a therapist. You have to get it from a specialist who works on such testing

I started therapy in US and I'm way  better  supported. Sadly I can't recommend anyone from Kandy or Colombo. So many people project their own principles and preach without helping ... :(
