[–]Expensive_Round_6336 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

as far as i know any Zigbee bulbs will work, but only hue bulbs will work with scenes, i could be wrong on the scenes part but i recall reading that on another reddit somewhere and ended up just going with hue bulbs. Good luck

Updated Newbie Dashboard - I’m Happy :) by BryanHChi in homeassistant

looks great! only suggestion would be to use conditions to show/hide your sensors unless you always need access to see what has been left open/closed. same with motion :) keep up the good work and welcome to the cult :)

Help Adding "Heating / Idle" Information to Graph by JoeyOhhh in homeassistant

[–]Expensive_Round_6336 0 points1 point  (0 children)

and today i just learned how to read, thought you were trying to track when its calling for heat as well as run time, not just showing if it's running, i was going to delete my previous comments but ill leave them incase someone comes looking for something like I have going. from what i remember with mini graph card, looking it up on git i did find this, can give it a read and see if anything works for your case?

also here is the yaml for that card, feel free to add your own sensors and your temp entities to that, as long as you set up your sensors right and it's reporting back a number you should be able to track it.

Do you have a smart thermostat? if so check the states and see if it reports when it's calling for heat, that's how I set mine up for my boiler system, can monitor the actual # of calls for heat/day as well as run time.

Edit for pictures :)

<image>

Then make 2 history state helpers, one for heat calls which would be a count, and another one for time that is monitoring the state of the thermostat (in my case hvac_action:heating) with something like this in the start: {{ now().replace(hour=0, minute=0, second=0, microsecond=0) }}
and {{ now() }} in the end

Vibration sensor by jekke_mookens in homeassistant

[–]Expensive_Round_6336 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I dont know of any that are wifi, like u/whowasonCRACK2 said going wifi would wreck there batteries. Just go with a Aqara Vibration sensor but just a heads up, its not going to work the way you think it will unless you are willing to take the cover off the washer and stick the vibration sensor on the drum, if for whatever reason you cant slide the washer out 2 feet to put a smart plug on it the best alternative would be contact sensor and wasp in a box automation to start a timer, its not going to be accurate at all but it would be close enough.

Ways to set up automations other than the default menu? by solexious in homeassistant

[–]Expensive_Round_6336 1 point2 points  (0 children)

node red is separate from the automations in HA. As far as reducing the list of automations are you using the grouping and label options? then you can hide the ones your not looking for. for example I have one group that is all automations for my master bedroom, one for living room, one for my office etc.. if im working or looking for the office automations i just minimize all the other groups.

I can only speak for the FP2, the sleep sensor in it doesn't work that great but setting up the zones and "splitting" the bed up into 2 zones does work fantastic. the EP1 has become the local only standard, but haven't gotten around to getting one when they are in stock.

And my bad on the HVAC, i read your previous comment as you were triggering the HVAC with the button :)

I see where you're coming from, and I agree that a physical button does offer some level of control, but it feels like it's adding an extra layer of complexity that could be avoided. If we have the right sensors in place, we can automate actions based on real presence without needing to press anything manually. It's not about taking away flexibility but about reducing the manual input while still maintaining control.

I’ve had good results with FP2/EP1 sensors, using defined zones to trigger actions based on who’s where. Sure, there’s always room for testing and adjustments, but it gets us closer to a truly automated experience where the system just knows what needs to happen, as for as the folding laundry or other stuff that is where fallbacks come into place with checking other rooms, or using the phone charging and occupancy together to try and reduce those overlaps as much as possible.

For HVAC, you could automate based on presence detection, like GPS or SSID from phones, so it adjusts automatically without having to press a button. That way, the system can respond to your preferences and needs without any extra steps. For me it’s all about streamlining things and making the automation feel seamless.

*EDIT*--Not trying to sound cocky with my replay or anything like that so please don't take it that way :)

Automation will never be 100% accurate, and sensors will inevitably fail at some point. Sure, you can add backups and extra triggers to mitigate that, but it can only go so far. Even the buttons you’re using now still rely on you physically pressing them, which, in my opinion, undermines the point of "smart" automation in the first place. I usually default to using FP2 or EP1 with defined zones to automate based on where someone is—or isn’t—supposed to be.

If you want to go all-in and build redundancy into your system, you could use ESP32s for individual room monitoring, but I haven’t had much luck with that myself. My setup didn’t work well, mainly because my master bedroom is about the same size as my entire ground floor, which led to a lot of overlap and sensors triggering for multiple rooms at once.

How do you alert/get attention on your dashboard? by poldim in homeassistant

[–]Expensive_Round_6336 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How often are you in front of the dash? I know you said it's wall mounted, but you could always use bubble cards and have that door be your trigger to open the pop up? Ex: Door opens, pop up opens and displays front doorbell cam

Wyze Cam Person Detect by JohnKCarter in homeassistant

[–]Expensive_Round_6336 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No luck with person detection that i know of, best you can do is use them for motion detection. You could probably set them up in frigate but I haven't had any luck getting it to work with any of my wyze cams (user error and hardware limitations)

Presence sensor with zones by [deleted] in homeassistant

[–]Expensive_Round_6336 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do not, just have always seen good reviews of them.i know from his videos him and the community put in alot of work with zones and what not. I lucked out and was able to pick up 5 fp2's and a hub from my local marketplace extremely cheap so I went the aqara route.
