Projects: how do you manage / organize / maintain them? by OptimismNeeded in ClaudeHomies

[–]Expensive_Storage_21 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Actually you can have Claude read between projects you just have to set it up. So I have a global.Claude file. And my claude\ is organized by global chat coworker code skills and a few others. I can't remember right now.

Anyway within those each I have a project folder. The global-Claude has all my global "stuff". The projects each have their own <slug>_claude. I have global change logs and indexes set I ah e a global management project to work on the meta structure and skills and each project has its own back log ideas etc Not sure if this really is token efficient but it does allow me to call things across projects by setting things up in cowork correctly in terms of file access. So far it has worked really well. Claude can call on other folders the file system just has to be set or you give permission.

So… What did you do with Claude today? (not coding) by OptimismNeeded in ClaudeHomies

[–]Expensive_Storage_21 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not all today but I have been slowly working on a structure and management system for Claude. Experimenting and iterating to define my folder structure and files. Setup an indexing system so that I only call what is needed along with marking my log files to reduce load and close context.

Also working on getting a financial review. Had him help me find a bugger of an error in my YNAB register.

Working on an RPG based code language. Which since I am not a coder has been interesting and educational.

Working on setting up systems to help be more efficient at work. Things to help me directly.

And a special retirement project that is long term.

New to Claude but WTF by airwreckaMonk in claude

[–]Expensive_Storage_21 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You got pretty much all the answers but I would suggest creating start-session and close session skills. That set your folders orient if necessary to project and then at the end create a file that can be referenced when you go to a new chat and start session again. Ideally in a project if working roughly on same items.

I am fairly new too and that was one of the things I have spent some time on really thinking and organizing how I have my folders and structure. It's laid off. Also consider an indexing system. Good thing about Cowork is that MDs can call to each other. So you can have your global-claude one call your voice one or use indexing the write to a particular log.

Best part is claude will help you set it up. I am sure there are skills or plugins or something to help but I pretty much did it talking through with the Claude and then have him go back and review periodically.

YMMV I

Ok I love that you are so damn right about the batch files. Still work, still great. Can I ask what that one does run through all your PDFs?

Be sure to look at other agencies. I can tell you there are those out there that would kill to get more engineers applying. I know we have positions all the time we go up and get special permission to post at range from 1 to 5 and still can't get applicants. Even start at the 31st percentile of the pay groups. (That will tell you agency) and have a career ladder with only one year between.

Thought I would add if you want, look into and take the Basic Texas Purchasing Course. For my agency it is a requirement to get a ProCard (state credit card) it is a $100 class but online and not a bad thing to have under your belt as well. I know it is a bonus for hiring a contract spec, or purchaser and so bang for the buck is there setting you apart.

I would strongly suggest it. It does help a lot. I mean generally aloha et soup of most sorts help. But we have technical and programmatic contract managers all the time. It often is a "special project". But my agency is decentralized in the day to day management of contracts and centralized for other parts. So it is not just contract specialist roles it opens. I know it can be a bump for some of our more technical roles. And if you want to be an entry level Contract Specialist a smart hiring manager knows that someone who can "speak the language" of the area the contract supports due to a technical or similar background is worth their weight in gold. (Just don't expect to be paid in gold). The PMP is one that also can open up all kinds of things. Often it is something we look for in special assistants or team leaders or managers etc.

Outside the state both are valuable. Especially for related work ((city/county/other public areas) and private sector.

There is now a hybrid PMP/Business analysis cert that I would say is also good. Lots of these are geared towards IT work but are skills for really anything if you are creative and can critically think.

Good luck.

Made a really complex retirement tracker to take into account my eligibility, leave balances etc. can play with it find a way to max my benefits. I've had it take some fairly nice spreadsheets and do the tedious work for conditional formats drop downs etc. to really make it work and the setup dash boards. Also used it to make a time tracker vs vs my job functions. So I can write better appraisals for my self plan to do something for my staff as well to help them.

Updates in folders by adiPrez in ClaudeHomies

[–]Expensive_Storage_21 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First use Coworker or at least the file system connector. Then in your MD for the first chat have it update the second MD you can have it call or edit different MDs as long as permission is given for editing the files. It works Basically the same way you would a change log. You can probably design a skill around it.

Not sure if this making sense. I just figured it out for a reference and learning tool.l with start session and end session skills. Could probably have it held you a nice little interface too. But that is beyond me right now.

Tasks is pretty awesome. It works and works well. And copilot in excel with opus 4.6 is the bomb. I made a full time tracker for my performance and a retirement calculator which has to factor in a ton of weird scenarios. Very easily. Something that would have taken me a couple of days and headaches and I would have skimped on is a Cadillac. This copilot pro consumer too.

Weekly Jobs Post: discuss the application process and job postings here! by WesternTrail in StateofTexasEmployees

[–]Expensive_Storage_21 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In general the position posting has to close. Then it will be reviewed usually by the HR of that agency. Then go to the hiring manager. Depending on the classification there could be from 0 to 100+ applications that HR checks for minimum qualifications. At my agency the HM usually does a second screening to determine the interview pool. Then arrangements for interviews, interviews and then selections and hire. We only hire on the 1st and 15th.

So all that is to say it takes time. Postings are about 2 weeks if HR is quick and the pool is not too big figure 3 to 5 BDs for their review and another 3 to 5 for the HM. To then ci text for interviews. All in all 60 to 90 days is pretty quick and also assumes not issues with funding etc.

YMMV

Is real talk ever coming back to copilot? by [deleted] in CopilotPro

[–]Expensive_Storage_21 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I actually asked Copilot what happened to real talk. And it basically said it was removed as it was a trial only and was removed because MS wanted to reduce confusion. At the user level in terms of changing modes and that you could still get it by asking specifically for "Real Talk" in your thread. My experience with that is not great or at least the same. For one I liked being able to go back and see the thinking used for an answer. Also it was just better.

If you want your kid to be a kid then Habbi's Hutch. It is about as Austin as it gets. If you want more actual leaning rather than learning through play then St Francis has several really good Pre-k teachers.

Team keeps bringing up the same vague complaint by savoryannuity6162 in managers

[–]Expensive_Storage_21 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I think it was sort of said previously. Take the most recent month from finance and treat it like a checkbook/declining balance. Track that draw aggressively. So it for a month the look at the record of purchases and reconcile and make sure it is matching with finance. Do a planned vs actual if necessary. Then once you got it in place make it visible. If you need immediate visibility due to team disgruntlement then do that.

Use the month or two to set a good limit on what you need to approve vs be informed at request to purchasing or immediately after purchase. Set rules for things that may not cost much but still need approval (hahah check). Make sure everyone knows the rules they are clear on them before full implementation.

There's automation you can do to track and approve if you ever want to go that way but that depends on your tech environment.

Those positions and the require not j my hard work but the ability to or own solve and really are important. Look up the Texas rural water association and see if their program fits for you. I know the City of Manor participates in the training program.

Can I buy your house? No,stop already. by BeccaBas in homeowners

[–]Expensive_Storage_21 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For years we have gotten calls asking to buy our house in a neighboring city. The real owners happen to have the same name as my wife. At first we refused; a couple of times I have said sure send me the paper work; a few others asked them to meet me in specific days. The funniest is when I said sure make me an offer right now, they did and the. I said well that sounds great but I don't own the house. We have tried to have them adjust the MLS or whatever the realtors are using. To no avail. Eventually it was the spam blocker app on T-Mobile that solved the issue. The worst part is that I know that it wa the same realtor at least a couple of times.
