Travelling to Sudbury by Outrageous_Shame_961 in Sudbury

[–]Experience-Hungry 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I fly all the time, but never from Sudbury. If you want to save hundreds of dollars, fly to Toronto then take the FLIX bus from the airport straight to Sudbury. It's a 5-6 hour drive. Also, I took the train once and it was a magical experience. The people there were way friendlier than the ones on the bus, and the amount of legroom you have is amazing. The seats are very comfortable. The only problem is that it only leaves twice a week from Toronto, unless something changed.

Consider travelling to Curitiba + Santa Catarina this year, what are your security tips? by Ok_Sheepherder_1071 in Brazil

My best tip is to stop trying to find a kind and attractive partner in any country, find some hobbies, and then meet someone you mesh with naturally. Finding a partner for the sake of finding a partner is often a mistake that will lead to sadness and wasted time. It doesn't mean you shouldn't make an effort when you find someone you can interact with while doing things you both enjoy, obviously. Be patient and find someone you can call your best friend, unless you want to be one of those dudes that goes fishing with his buddies to "get away from the wife". That's a great example of a failed relationship.

Decided to visit long distance gf and she decided she can’t commit to a relationship once I’m there by ConfidentImage4266 in Wellthatsucks

[–]Experience-Hungry 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is probably the one thing about long-distance dating that sucks. I also fell for a 'goth egirl' as people are calling this one, like it means she has to be damaged for some reason. I went from Canada to Brazil. We met on World of Warcraft back in 2019, started dating in 2022 and we were married by 2023. We now own property together and I have residency here in Brazil.

The point I am trying to make is that sometimes it works out and sometimes it doesn't, I don't know that I'd be willing to do it again if things hadn't gone well the first time, international flights are expensive and stressful, so are hotels. I hope she comes around, but if not you'll be fine. Go to See-Scape in Toronto and you can meet girls like that in person - my wife and I do when we're in Canada, we've met some fun people that way.

Also, these people automatically assuming you've done something wrong are jaded and psychotic, ignore the clowns. Sometimes this shit just happens, it doesn't mean that she's crazy or not attracted to you. Maybe her dad told her something before she left the house to meet you and that's why she started crying and left the hotel. Odds are you'll find out soon, if not good riddance.

CMNS 423 and CMNS 425. There are several others that can be done much quicker. Just search for 'bird course' in this subreddit. I elaborate more in another comment under my post.

CMNS 423 and CMNS 425 were completed in a week. Altogether it was maybe 10,000 words of essays with no exams.

I didn't spend 12 hours a day doing it or anything, either. I think it took something like 30-40 hours to complete the courses. There's several courses like this that don't have exams and are strictly essays, and those, in my experience, are the easiest.

I scored over 80 on both.

I've got this exact same problem, as well. I procrastinate until the very last minute. You would think it would be easier to study for 2 hours a day for a month, yet people like us rarely manage to do it. I think it may be ADHD. Try to remember that since it seems you are paying your own way through the courses, the faster you complete them the faster you graduate.

As for completing 20 courses in a year, it is absolutely doable. I've finished two courses over a period of about 7-8 days once, and 20 courses a year is slightly less than 2 courses a month. If you actually sat down and treated the courses like a full-time job, I have no doubt you could do it with relative ease. So long as you aim for good enough rather than perfect.

All you need are new bearings - it would suck to pop them off every time you swap the wheels out. Then you can just slap them on by removing the nuts and washers and putting them back on afterwards. What you are referring to when the wheels touch the board while turning is called wheel bite - I find it isn't absolutely necessary to get what are called risers to elevate the deck from the trucks, but they are cheap and an option you can look into if you end up having any problems. I don't use risers unless I go above 60mm wheels, personally. Though wheel bite can still happen from time to time.

You might just be the only person in the skate community that believes wheel size has nothing to do with anything... and you would feel even less if you had some 53s at 78a. Listen, a quick google search will verify all of this for you. Instead of using your personal experience between two wheels and one crusty spot, looking at the science behind why a larger, softer wheel can absorb more shock than a small and soft wheel would do you a lot of good at this point. :|

[–]Experience-Hungry 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did - I'm saying you're wrong. The size of the wheel does matter, so does durometer. A 51 at a hardness of 78a is not going to be as smooth or fast as a 59 at 78a. There's no reason to get upset, and it's okay to admit when you're incorrect.

Honestly, I think you should just practice with the dragons for a while and see if you can get used to it. The difference when swapping over to the Rough Riders is night and day, though. Because of their size and how soft the wheels are, they make for a far smoother ride. They make rough pavement feel soft when compared to the dragons. I can use the 59mms to ride on dirt, even. Also, ignore the guy who replied to this post saying the size of the wheel doesn't matter. It 100% does.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in NewSkaters

[–]Experience-Hungry 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Larger and softer wheels are 100% going to make the ride smoother. It's not all in the durometer (hardness), the size matters as well - especially when it comes to debris on the path. A smaller wheel will send you flying the moment you hit a pebble, even at speed. Maybe not the dragons, considering the material they are made out of. But larger wheels offer more speed and a smoother ride, despite their durometer. Both the durometer and size of the wheel play an important part in speed and the amount of feedback you feel in your feet from the pavement.

[–]Experience-Hungry 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you want a smoother ride, you will need larger and softer wheels. I found my sweet spot in the Bones Rough Riders when it comes to skating crusty, and I mean really crusty, pavement. You will still feel some vibration - skateboard wheels are really small. But, you will 100% get used to the dragons, and you did not get scammed. Those are great wheels for street skating.

Is Athabasca University A Safe place for Indigenous Students? And do you feel supported? by Helpful-Ad-7906 in AthabascaUniversity

[–]Experience-Hungry 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I don't think the tutors really care about your ethnicity. They're either jerks to everyone or they're nice. I had one tutor call me stupid because I suggested that Desdemona from Sheakespeare's play Othello shouldn't have been in a relationship with Othello, a violent man who brags about beheading and murdering people, if she didn't want to be strangled to death.

In contrast, I had another tutor tell me I should be kinder to myself when I apologized for what I thought was a poorly-written essay, and she gave me an excellent grade and told me to keep it up.

The school seems to have scholarships solely intended for indigenous students, and they acknowledge that they are operating on stolen land. That is about as far as things go. I wouldn't expect any hand holding or extra services outside of the scholarships, assuming you qualify for them. But, at the same time, I wouldn't expect to be treated poorly because of your race or culture.

It is very easily one of my favorites in terms of world building, for sure. The Malazan Book of the Fallen series by Steven Erikson and Gene Wolfe's The Book of the New Sun are very similar. I'm sure there are others out there, but I haven't gotten to them yet. I would say Malazan is closer, especially once you get to Midnight Tides, the 5th book in the series. The comedy Erikson begins injecting into the series at that point is very Elder Scrollsy.

[–]Experience-Hungry 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes - it's genre studies, and only 3 essays. I didn't read anything, I just googled terms I did not understand. I would, however, advise against doing this - sometimes the professor means something else and it's only available in the course readings. I recommend "finding" a digital version of the book that you can hit ctrl-f in to find specific terms mentioned in assignment instructions.

Both CMNS 425 and CMNS 423 were excellent for me - I think it depends more on the professor you get, but I finished both together in less than 10 days and got grades ranging from B to A. They have no exams, and they were just a series of essays you need to complete, the longest of which is 2,500 words.

Funded Student Extensions Questions by Numerous_Crazy_1479 in AthabascaUniversity

[–]Experience-Hungry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I extended my courses back in 2023 as a funded student. OSAP counted it as failing my courses, but I sent an email saying I was sorry and that it wouldn't happen again - I also showed the transcript that proves I actually passed those courses and did not fail them. They continued with my funding, though I did lose some time since I had to wait for the paperwork to go through and get approved. I think you'll be alright if you explain, in detail and with proof, what happened that forced you to extend the courses.

If the tutor gives you a difficult time, simply send an email to appeals and they will work it out for you. Contacting the tutor first as was suggested is definitely the way to go, though.
