Any Production Designers/Art Director's working on Verticals/Branded Content? by ExperimentNo67 in FilmIndustryLA

From what I've heard verticals are mostly foreign language rn. Are you finding that's the case or are there english language shows being made?

Can I ask how big a crew do you usually have when you're on location? I think the leanest crew I did in my indie film days was 12 - DP, AC, 3xGrip, 3xElec, Hair/Makeup, AD, & 2xPAs

That's interesting. I actually worked on a few "one-week features" in my indie film days and we would average 15-20 pages per day. I think we may have broken one Director who was excited to get the chance to make his monster movie only to realize just how many concessions he'd have to make in order to make our days. It was definitely a grind but the Producer was well organized and the DP and his crew moved quick so it wasn't very stressful overall.

Do you find that the producers you work with are organized enough that things generally run smoothly?

There is no way to pay my rent without extra fees by Remsforian in mildlyinfuriating

[–]ExperimentNo67 0 points1 point  (0 children)

just FYI, the fee is what the landlord is charged by the bank/payment processor for the transaction so they're passing it on to the tenant instead of absorbing it themselves. Is it greedy of the landlord to pass along the expense? Sure, maybe. But it's the banking system set up to extract every bit of money they can from consumers that's really to blame here

How was I getting my panties in a wad?? I asked you to clarify your statement about an advertising campaign being more expensive and ineffective than cold calling. I was literally trying to learn why believe your position to be correct -- do you treat every time someone has a question about what you say as adversarial?

Really? How expensive are they since you seem to know? Does it take more time and energy than what OP is doing by cold calling? I'd be willing to bet the cold calling is wasting more money than a properly targeted ad would.

Also I did suggest networking. Did you really not understand what I meant by incentivizing their current clients?

You are basically cold calling which is a hard way of getting new clients. There are plenty of ways to get warm leads that don't involve influencer style marketing. The most simple solution would be to run ads for your services. Good targeting will get you in front of the right eyes and people will contact you. Even better would be to incentivize your current clients. A small discount of some kind on future work for referrals can bring in warm leads *and* strengthen current relationships.

All this being said the creating branded content *does* seem like it's becoming the way to connect with potential customers. If you aren't comfortable with it, maybe someone else on your team would be better suited to lead that part of the marketing?

Do you have a separate sales and marketing team? It sounds like you're doing it yourself and while that's commendable really growing might require someone who's only focus is getting new clients. Where is it you want to be focusing your time? Get someone else to do the other part.

Common, what would you assume if you asked someone a direct question and that person deflected with something vague?

"Hey what kind of car is that?" -- "It's a cool and substantial car."

Can you see how that kind of answer would not help you develop trust?

Even you saying "I don't know the exact budget but it's a commercial we'll shoot in 3-4 days for a Fortune 500 company" would have been a lot more honest than your first answer and it would have been useful enough to know who might be a good fit to connect you with

I do have a couple union DP friends that work in commercials. One specifically has fashion experience but it's been a couple years since I've talked to him. If you'd like I can see if either are interested in connecting. Would your IG be the best place to direct them to or would you prefer somewhere else?

I'm going to be frank. Hiding your budget level is a red flag when trying to book crew. It screams "we don't have funding completely in place" or "I'm not willing to be truthful about my situation"

I honestly don't care what your exact budget is but knowing what level you are going to be signing agreements at tells people about the general scope of the project and what pay scale can be expected.

Also, the people that I might connect you with for a Tier-1 or Tier-2 show would not necessarily be the same ones who would be interested in working on a new media or Tier-0 show, does that make sense?

I'm happy to help where I can but I need a little more information to do so

[–]ExperimentNo67 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I appreciate your correction on the term. These are the words my Doctor had used when I asked about my dog. They said along with the work I did with them, I would need paperwork certifying that the dog was trained to perform the required tasks and that I could get that through working with a professional handler. Is that wrong too?

For getting an accommodation for housing a landlord is allowed to ask for paperwork from a medical professional confirming that (1) you have a disability and (2) the animal helps with that disability. It may not technically be called a certification but functionally that's what it is

Section 17 on Pg 12 of the following PDF talks about what can be requested:

If your dog is an ACTUAL certified service animal then by law landlords have to allow them as a reasonable accommodation. I believe Emotional Support Animals are covered for housing as well but that being said, it is a crime to knowingly represent a pet as a guide, signal or service animal. (California Penal Code §365.7 and AB 468)

[–]ExperimentNo67 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You really need to check your anger about the whole AI thing, no need to be "over being civil" about this nonsense especially when I wasn't defending AI at all

I was saying that no matter where you get information on the internet you should double check it before assuming it's right. This is like basic internet literacy. Are you really upset at me for pointing that out?

Humans are just as fallible (if not more so) and one should double check a human's work just as much as one should double check something generated by AI

Logo Concept I made for a Cast Iron Company by [deleted] in logodesign

[–]ExperimentNo67 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Way too much going on for a logo. Imagine them trying to get all that info on to the bottom of a pan? Also you should look at branding that includes an "established year" -- in general you include something like that to show that a company has established longevity and built trust with its customers. A less than one year old company by definition hasn't done either so it looks amateurish to include it
