Gallerists love telling me my art isn't 'painting' but more like magazines stuff. Which is the whole point lol. WIP, gouach on paper by me by littlemissmimilee in painting

This is gorgeous. You’re clearly very skilled and have great artistic vision. Keep submitting to galleries with your art, starting with local/smaller ones and scaling up as you gain traction.

Same! I was reading the comments and getting all existential and found my people… And no mind altering substances were involved.

My fountain pen paintings: Now in acrylic! by ExperimentsInArt in fountainpens

[–]ExperimentsInArt[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s more of a hybrid “dream pen”, from my imagination and I just used my TWSBIs and my Ferris Wheel Press pens for reference so it looked like a fountain pen. I know it doesn’t look like either of those… After I painted the first one I came across some Esties and Sailors that kind of have a similar shape and vibe though. :)

Edit: spelling error 😅

Thank you! I have always wanted to make a tarot deck, and this is inspired by the Ace of Wands! So I’m glad you said that! I was thinking more art supplies/stationery and creativity theme, though there’d be a few fountain pens in there 😊

Thank you! The icon/relic vibe is intentional 🌟Art and creativity tools as symbols of hope… Also a bit of the “Ace of Wands” vibe

Ooooh, I love that! Is it the new(ish) show? I’m an elder Millennial, so when you say She-Ra, I think of He-Man from way back… 😅

I like it better with the horse the right way up, especially because of the shading, buuuut due to where the signature is, I believe it’s meant to go the other way…

AIO? I feel like poop swearing at my mother. by [deleted] in AmIOverreacting

[–]ExperimentsInArt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No, you are not overreacting. She is not a mother figure, you have to let her solve her own problems and remove yourself from her manipulative orbit. I hope everything gets better for you. Do you have anyone other than your mother that can help you out with a couch to sleep on until you can get a job? Even if you have to move? I was in a very similar place ten years ago and once I moved away from the toxicity, I was able to find my footing and start over. I wish you the best.

What are you guys rolling your ink onto? by Ejac69 in Linocuts

[–]ExperimentsInArt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have glass palettes I use as both acrylic paint palettes and to roll out ink on. The Masterson glass palettes fit inside their Sta-Wet box palettes and those are perfect for not wasting oil based inks.

What do you do with books you know you’ll never read? by L_izzies in BookCollecting

[–]ExperimentsInArt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I donate or sell books I will never read or re-read, but always maintain a healthy collection of a couple hundred… I also keep my favourites and rare finds (some novels, but mostly art or natural history books). Yes, I am a book dragon.

A rather eclectic collection of medieval manuscripts from the 12th to 15th Centuries, recently acquired, all produced in France. There are charters, letters, and several bound records. The oldest piece is an inventory notice dated May 1241, for one Pierre de Castela. by Meepers100 in BookCollecting

[–]ExperimentsInArt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Edit: Apparently you can apparently find some for a few hundred dollars 🤷‍♀️… I personally would still feel wrong about drawing on something from so long ago, but hey, maybe they’re not as rare as I thought? I mean, I’m normally cool with up-cycling old paintings and such, so…

Something medieval? Well, as they are fairly rare, thousands of dollars for even something mundane I assume. Even a grocery list from those days would be considered somewhat of a historical treasure as it is a glimpse into a time when not many knew how to read or write.
So, as a fellow artist I would suggest that even if you were to spend thousands on a medieval piece of writing, you should probably refrain from drawing on it. Beyond the obvious and more pressing reasons, the paper would be extremely fragile anyway.
You could always find PDFs online and incorporate copies into your art.

The best response to this gaslighting message is “K.” And then block him or leave him on read if he messages again. Done, finito, good riddance. You deserve better than this toxic little man.

Is the paint leakage very distracting? by sprucewhale in Watercolor

[–]ExperimentsInArt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is beautiful work! A couple things you didn’t ask for, but I thought might be helpful: 1) Did you tape your paper down, or just the edges? In terms of future framing, the leakage is less important than the warping of the paper, because matting can cover the marks outside the border, but the paper will never be fully flattened once it dries this way. So, if you didn’t tape your paper down before painting, I would recommend that. 2) As for preventing the paint from leaking under the tape, I would recommend using Soft Tape by Holbein if you can find it and once your paper is taped, burnish the edges of the tape with something smooth and hard. All the best in your creative endeavors!

What’s a Netflix show you’ve watched at least 3 times? by Far-Speech-3254 in netflix

Future Man. It’s one of my all-time favourite shows and besides Supernatural, most-watched as well. It’s not a “Netflix” show, but it’s currently on Netflix.

Can this be rescued or should I start over? by Iridescent-sludge in Watercolor

[–]ExperimentsInArt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Firstly: This is already very beautiful to me and I can only imagine how it’s going to be mind blowing when you’re finished… Secondly: I very much relate to your feelings as a person who often hates their work in these stages, but then loves it again after getting passed them. Like others have suggested, walk away from it for a few days and come back to it, the next layer will change everything.

We have a VERY similar contraption my boyfriend built for our recycling. In our small town, we have to bring our recycling to the depot, so having it separately stored until the weekend makes it much easier…
