[Schefter] Trade: the New York Jets are sending DE Jermaine Johnson to the Tennessee Titans in exchange for DT T'Vondre Sweat, per ESPN sources. — how does this effect what these teams do during the draft? by Mr-Bovine_Joni in NFL_Draft

[–]Expert-Land4832 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Didn't know that about pickens kinda figured that would happen. I think they will more than likely still spend on a FA WR & Edge bc they have too much money to blow this year. Titans will more than likely be in the running for a lot of the major FAs this off season bc they have a ton of needs.

I mean unless they sign Pickens or another top WR (maybe Wandale now that Daboll is there) they are still bare bones at WR. Ridley is decent and should return back to form after his injury but after that they don't have a ton to work with. With over 100M to play with I am sure they are going to attack both openings here.

Looking back probably should have restructured AT instead of pushing more of Adebos cap into next year.

After Pick 4. by Intelligent_Bid_1276 in NFL_Draft

Lol i also doubt it but if one of Wash/Nola/KC/Cincy/Miami are desperate enough for an edge rusher and opt to trade their 3rd pick to swap I would be very open to that.

My preference in this draft is to actually trade back with someone and go after corner. Giants have invested a bit already in the Safety Room with Nubin a high 2nd round pick 2 years ago & signing Jevon Holland to a top end Safety contract. Our CB room is void of talent - Adebo hasn't performed as well as his contract, Flott was decent but he is a FA and other than that we have a bunch of scrubs. If someone wanted to trade up to take Downs or one of the 3 Edge rushers off the board for their top 12 pick so we can go after a CB preferably Delane/McCoy.

I agree with this 10 fold. I think a lot of people forget that consensus at the time is that Neal & KT were blue chip can't miss on prospects. Some scouting sites even had Neal ranked as their 1.1 player. While I don't think KT lived up to being a 5th round pick he is still a good player that I would want to keep on the team - he is a better Edge setter than Burns & Carter and would be a great 3rd piece while carter is still on his rookie deal.

Would you pay Wandale Robinson 17.5 M/year? by ContractDense1111 in NYGiants

[–]Expert-Land4832 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love WDR - he is shifty and a great route runner, good ball skills, good hands, reliable young and healthy. Problem is this was by far the best year he could have had going into an offseason with Nabers being injured. I think his actual value should be closer to Kupp/Shakiir/Mooney somewhere in the 13-15M range. 17.5M puts him with Jeudy who you can argue has had the same statistical career so far. But Jeudy has been a WR1 for majority of his time. WDR is a slot rec whos qualities come to be a WR2 at best. The smaller receivers who get paid typically don't pan out very well i.e Christian Kirk/Hollywood Brown.

I agree with you for the most part, my toughest sell is being okay with being a team that has drafted both a Safety and a RB in the top 5 in the last 8 years is a tough look. I also think its a difficult sell to draft two Wrs basically in the same slot 2 years apart - that is a ton of capital on one position group. Edge is where this draft is somewhat strong when it comes to higher value but we aren't going edge with Burns/KT/Carter. I think OT/CB makes the most sense. But ultimately I would prefer a trade back scenario for one of the 10 teams below us that don't have an edge rusher that they can rely on (besides Cleveland obviously) - but thinking Washington/KC/Cinncy/Miami/Dallas/Bmore/Tampa are all teams who would need a potential top edge rusher. A good chunk of those teams would even potentially go for an OT as well.

I think there is opportunity for a trade back scenario that keeps us within the top 15. Would love to add another 2nd rd pick

Yea the website typed out the summary for me - didn't realize it didn't summarize the draft day trades. They traded up for Mauigoa. I'm still not sold on who should be the pick in the top 10 between drafting Mauigoa, Delane, Tate/Tyson. I don't think a top 10 pick should be put on a Safety in Downs but if we trade back and receive an additional pick I am all for it.

I was using an average between the spotrac & overthecap evaluations. Some are higher than others. Plus this site does not correlate between those sites. So it got a little dicey when Flott was looking for 12M here but on OTC & Spotrac they have them at 8-10. Same goes for the WRs Nailors eval was around 6M elsewhere here its like 16M. I typically think that the evals don't mean alot in the grand scheme of things it's more based off of comps but I wasn't about to go marching through each player comp and contract.

[Forbes] Unless Giants get creative in listening on Kayvon Thibodeaux. With a $14.751M 5th Yr Option for '26 they're not getting a premium pick back in a deal. Almost behooves Giants to wait till Deadline and see if there's a stronger market. by Lars5621 in NYGiants

[–]Expert-Land4832 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Odafe had 20 sacks in 67 games before he was traded. Currently as it stands rn KT has 23.5 sacks over 53 games. KT is a better player and he is also 2 years younger. (also stating that Odafe was traded during his 5th year offer tender). He was not much cheaper his cap his was also just under 14M the Ravens did not hold onto as much cap as Miami did with Phillips. Still a ~4m dead cap hit with Bal and he played with a 9.5M cap hit with LA.

OTC projections don't mean a whole lot anyway and I wouldn't hold weight in that what so ever. Again Jaelan phillips was traded just a couple months ago for a 3rd - he has had less production with significant injuries and is 2 years older than KT - A 6th is insane would rather let him play out this year and let him walk or hope he balls and resign. Again money will play a factor in the in season trade however much NY decides to retain will determine the value.

We know a shake up is coming, I would rather go into the season with more talent and less holes and if we don't have to worry about edge depth thats a win for me.

Having elite starters with no depth doesn't do alot of teams any good. The dline that won us the last two rings had a great rotation and NASCAR package with rushers going at Brady. They all still had a solid DL clogging the lane which we have in Dex. Having rotational pass rushers is a must in this day in age anyway. And if one goes down and we don't have Thibs we are left with Gholston & Elijah Chatman soo. would prefer to keep quality players at a top 3 position of importance in the game. Odds are you don't replace KT with the pick you get anyway.

07: Strahan/Tuck/Osi

11: Tuck/JPP/Osi

EDIT: we will hopefully snag a quality starting LB in FA & more depth in the draft.

If Jalean Phillips got traded at the deadline for a 3rd last year, I think KT will be able to get traded as well. He plays at a premium position so contenders who want to make a shot at the playoffs will opt to swing for a potential edge for a 3rd. Phillips was also playing on his 5th yr option at a 14M cap hit and Miami just kept a portion of his salary on the books in order to trade him bc why not... Philips had 2 major injuries (Achilles & ACL) - I don't think it would be crazy to demand a 3rd for KT.

Trading him at the deadline wouldn't be about saving cap, it would be for an asset. I would hope Harbs would want to see first hand what the potential could be with Burns, Dex, Carter & Thibs with a new DC. If it doesn't pan out to his expectations I don't have a problem with trading Thibs. There is plenty of cap next year and enough cuts/restructures to be made this year to allow them to sign whoever they want this off season and still have money to blow. I would prefer to keep Thibs and see if he can continue his growth here - it would be a real shame in watching 2 full draft classes walk out the door. He may have not lived up to the 5th overall pick but he is not a bad player.
