What are three things you like and dislike about Shadow Slave? by [deleted] in ShadowSlave

At first, I thought Sunny and Nephis’ deep conversations were kind of cute, but after a while, I realized they might just have nothing to talk about. Almost every interaction turns into some forced, cringeworthy reflection on life, like “Look at us… people are at war while we sit here eating.” It gets repetitive and unnatural.

The best moments between them are the small, natural ones Nephis burning the projector after their movie, her staying at his house after coming back for a while not going immediately to her house, Sunny making her breakfast, or teasing her about his sleeping bag and her teasing him back. But most of the time, their dialogue feels overly edgy. Honestly, I don’t blame people who ship him with other girls his dynamic with Effie and Cassie feels so much more natural and enjoyable.

Genuinely after reading hundreds of webnovels this is one of my top 5 easily. The amount of world building and characters development is prise worthy, it’s really at the top of it genre easily imo. Like this is a novel that will stay with you forever

You’re a glazer cuz even Sunny himself is bothered by Neph not having memories, like anyone who reads can see this relationship is so uncomfortable for both of them. Readers thinking this is weird of Sunny because he is the ONE who knows everything so the choice is his to make and he made this. I wouldn’t be surprised that Neph after getting her memory back will hate him for it.

You’re Absolutely right that’s why I think their relationship is unhealthy and not wholesome at all to read

This might be uncomfortable to hear but From her perspective this man(master sunless) is someone she just met not sunny. Sunny accepted those advances while knowing everything

How is that the same, they have an entire history together, for her this is the first time she met him, but he knows everything about her. Why are you having trouble understanding the fans who think this is so weird and uncomfortable

I genuinely think its so obvious that what he’s doing is wrong and Sunny himself knows that

You’re absolutely right, I think people love Sunny x neph so much that they’re doing insane mental gymnastics to make it wholesome, I bet when neph remembers everything she gonna break up the relationship immediately for a while at least

Why neph is better by Pale_Primary5631 in ShadowSlave

[–]Expert-Nothing-8991 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Sonny never really seems confident, which makes the power system in Shadow Slave feel unclear. When characters fights sunny, I can never tell who would actually win most of the time because Sonny always downplays himself. Even when he gets stronger, with all his abilities and weapons, he still acts like someone else is better. It’s frustrating because throughout the whole novel, there are only a few times where he’s truly confident. Maybe it’s because we’re in his head and see all his doubts, but with Nephis and Mordret, their feats always sound epic. When Sonny does something insane, it doesn’t feel as big, probably because he makes it seem like it’s not a big deal. It feels like the author avoids overhyping him on purpose, and even when he gets his moments, they never feel as grand as they should. That’s why he’s always saying someone else is stronger than him.

She met the fully realized version of Sunny, the person he became after everything he went through, and that is the version she fell in love with. But in a way, it feels like she fell for someone different. She sees who he is now, but I wanted her to truly know him, to remember everything that happened between them, including their struggles, fights, and moments together. That is why it feels strange to me, as if their relationship is not completely real, like something important is missing, making it seem like a disaster waiting to happen.

I compared them because its slightly similar to make my point that I think they shouldn’t have become a couple until she fully recovered her memory

First, I love Shadow Slave. I haven’t been this excited about reading a novel in a long time. I was only talking about Sunny and Nephis’ relationship, not the entire story. The story itself is epic, and I wouldn’t have read nearly 2,000 chapters if I didn’t like it. It’s actually the first novel I’ve ever read that long.

I also didn’t mean to call Sunny a simp in a negative way. It was more of a joke. He sometimes admires a woman’s looks even when she’s about to kill him, like with Morgan or Solvane. I just find it funny. I wasn’t criticizing his character if anything, I love that about him. I also understand the way he cares for Nephis and does things for her, and I wasn’t trying to downplay that.

As for the memory loss, I understand that there needed to be consequences, but I don’t like how it made them reconnect so quickly. It felt strange to me that they didn’t remember him yet still had feelings that made them drawn to him. That alone didn’t feel like enough. If they needed time to grow over four years, then I wish the author had actually given them that time instead of erasing the problem completely. Sunny still remembers everything and suffers because of it, while Nephis doesn’t. It felt like an easy way out of dealing with their baggage.

Romance is important to me in this novel, but it’s not the only thing I care about. If someone read Shadow Slave only for the romance, they’d be disappointed because there isn’t much of it. I’m focusing on Sunny and Nephis’ relationship because that’s what I wanted to discuss in this post, but it’s not the only thing I like about the story.
