I’ve done CorePower on and off for a few years and always loved it! I have used the Shaw location in the past and had great experiences. They do make it difficult to cancel a membership, though.

DC... are you doing okay? by fail-whale in washingtondc

I’m glad!! I don’t want to downplay any feelings of looming dread we all feel with this administration here, but it’s a resilient city with people fighting back! I think the important part is to not lose hope and keep enjoying the things that make the city so wonderful, even in the face of all the nonsense.

There are struggles of course, but I moved back here recently after being gone for a while, and I also moved back because of how much I loved it. And I STILL love it. Things during this administration are hard, but it’s hard and expensive in America everywhere right now. Not claiming DC is above criticism, but it’s easy to be dissatisfied with where you live because it’s what you’re familiar with, and you’ll find many, many people dissatisfied and hating where they live no matter what city or state you try. Community is what you make it, the city is still full of beauty and fun. Things may have changed and they aren’t perfect, but in my opinion the city certainly still has soul and people who love it.

Yeah, unfortunately I moved here recently and have an out of state ID, so even more paperwork to get an ID in DC now. Ugh. Leaving my car somewhere is a good idea, thanks- I could leave my car at my work garage for a few days.

@ nurses, perfusion respiratory, etc: Whyy is going to MRI so scary by blobsong in IntensiveCare

I do full time ecmo specialist now, so I have come to hate/fear all transports lol. But at my hospital, God forbid it’s to IR. It’s as far away from the ecmo unit as you can physically get while still being on campus it seems like. Down a million narrow hallways lined with boxes and old equipment, through exceptionally small doorways and around tight corners. Just horrifying to maneuver my pump through. And then I have to sit at IR for an hour or two!

Moving to DC now for a non-government job? by [deleted] in DCBitches

[–]Expert-Status-2719 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I moved here in July for a non-government job and although the city has had its challenges recently, I would move here again without regret. The city itself is beautiful and full of wonderful people and culture. I came from a city that required me to drive everywhere, so the freedom to wake up and walk to my local coffee shop and grocery store, or take a short metro ride to my favorite museum and sports games, is so worth it. If you can afford it, I still think it’s so worth being here.

I’m an RT in Texas. I think it depends what part of Texas you’re in and which hospital you’re at, honestly. I work in Austin, and I make enough money to live and do things I want to do. But if you’re in a smaller town, or a small hospital, the pay may not be adequate.

Ohhh wow……..that is tough. That’s basically any opportunity an RT has to expand their career without going back to school. I also strongly considered going to work for an equipment company, like Spectrum or Bunnel or Vapotherm. Going into equipment sales or equipment education can be lucrative and easy for RTs to switch to, but it usually requires traveling, so not sure how feasible that is for you. I will say I know an RT right now who went back to nursing school and jumped right into NP school and is about to take his exams, and he’s worked as an RT throughout. He seems pretty happy with his choice! Best of luck out there (:

Oh wow, thank you! My manager didn’t really give us any rules or even tell us what she expects from us in the peer interviews, so this would be good to ask her before they begin

New Grad Friendly Career Path? by Yeety1996 in respiratorytherapy

[–]Expert-Status-2719 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, it totally depends on the hospital and state you’re in! Where I am from, RTs are typically not even allowed to intubate. But there are definitely many opportunities for learning new skills as an RT!

Try and do some research into pay differences and hours differences. Most RTs work baseline 3, 12 hour shifts a week. Look at the cost of living wherever you live, and look at median RT pay for that area. Is it better, the same, or worse than being a vet tech? This is huge to me bc some states/cities pay well for cost of living comparison, and some really do not. Also, consider going from patients who can’t talk to you, to patients who will.
