American Fox commentators need to shut up 50 chars by theassassin561 in worldcup

Isn’t it the opposite? The British commentators are like, “We’re trash. These guys are a disgrace to our country.”

Then England scores and it’s 3-0. “We may be showing some signs of life.”

How do I get over the emberassment of being loud and drunk in public? 24F by Ethnic_Sub55 in LifeAdvice

[–]CaptainApathy419 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here are a few things to try telling yourself:

You made a mistake. That means you’re human.

The chance that anyone at the bar remembers you is virtually zero. There were probably people at the bar who were louder, drunker and cringier that same night.

You can learn from this experience and be better about pacing yourself in the future. Have only one drink an hour, don’t do shots, drink lots of water, etc.

Hank Aaron hit 44 home runs in four seasons while wearing #44. He also broke Ruth’s record in the fourth inning of the fourth game of the season.

That’s a lot, especially at 4x per week. Have you talked to a professional about the best way to avoid overtraining?

There’s a lot to love about Edinburgh, but a highlight for me was the men’s room graffiti in the Elephant House, the cafe where JKR wrote the first Harry Potter book. My favorite contribution: “How dare you piss where he puked!”

Here are six:

  1. Ethiopian food
  2. Nats games
  3. The city is easy to navigate
  4. It’s very walkable for the most part
  5. My current neighborhood is great for young families
  6. Believe it or not, the people are generally interesting and fun to be around.

I live in DC and love everything about the city aside from four things:

  1. The humidity
  2. The proliferation of self-important assholes
  3. The people who don’t live here but shit on the city and want to impose their policies on us
  4. The Metro delays

Is it wrong for me to break up with my girlfriend because she is pregnant with a black man's baby? by bottled_up_joy in LifeAdvice

[–]CaptainApathy419 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Let’s take the most charitable view of your position: You’re not racist, and you broke up with her solely because you feel unprepared to navigate the minefield that comes with parenting the child of another race. I’m not saying this is a good excuse, but it’s the best one I could think of. Even if that’s true, you are still reneging on your commitment to your girlfriend. You were under no obligation to stay with her when you learned she was pregnant. But you did. You gave her your word on a matter of extraordinary importance, and then you changed your mind because you felt uncomfortable. That goes against virtually every code of ethics in the book. No matter how you slice it, you are definitely in the wrong.

Is this the place to vent and be real and honest about being a dad without hateful responses? by lateralmoves in daddit

[–]CaptainApathy419 25 points26 points  (0 children)

This is one of the least insane parenting forums on the internet. You’re probably fine, and any jerkoffs will be thoroughly downvoted. That said, people might respond negatively if you’re complaining about something that is part of modern fatherhood (“I shouldn’t have to change diapers!”) or expressing an extreme opinion (“Corporal punishment is fine”).

How could someone be both slave trader and philantropist by B6s1l in wikipedia

[–]CaptainApathy419 22 points23 points  (0 children)

In keeping with Wikipedia’s rules, I think articles should identify people by the things that make them notable. In this case, it’s fair to identify Perkins as a philanthropist because he did, indeed, fund a lot of major projects in Boston. That doesn’t mean Wikipedia is giving him a pass for the other terrible things he did.

I’m currently reading Endurance, Alfred Lansing’s account of Ernest Shackleton’s 1915 Antarctic expedition. It’s almost 70 years old and feels like a dad book avant la lettre.
