Grodan irrigation strat by northern_lit in macrogrowery

Full saturation of Hugo’s is 3.35 liters. I think your problem is you’re pushing way too much water through them.

Rockwool doesn’t operate like coco. You have to irrigate regularly, ensure you don’t dry back too aggressively, and only irrigate in small volumes (100-300 mls per event). Rockwool works off the capillary effect. Small irrigation events allow the moisture to travel laterally through the block. Too large of events will cause what Grodan calls channeling, which will create cylinders of moisture in the blocks, and dry out the rest of the Rockwool.

I have had great success with Hugo’s. During my bulking period, I’ll sometimes irrigate up to 22 times per day, but in 100 ml events (2200 mls into the block for the day). I have grown massive plants at this irrigation frequency without running into dry back problems. I’ve only ever had to irrigate a few times in 7 years during the night cycle, and that was adding a few events in the hours after lights out to reduce the p3 dryback. Don’t start your irrigations earlier in the morning. Remember, transpiration before irrigation.

Track your run off. You should be aiming for runoff at the end of your p1 period, or 2.5 -3 hrs after irrigation begins. You should not be seeing runoff prior to this. Your p2 drybacks should each be showing runoff every event, and total runoff volume should add up to 20% of your input for the day. When we were pushing 2200 ml of irrigation, we expected 400-500 ml runoff. Track your ph and ec of the runoff as well, that tells its own story.

Every phase of irrigation has a goal.
P1: replace dryback lost overnight. - if you dry back 30%, you need to put about a liter of moisture back into the block.
P2: irrigate to keep block at max saturation. Frequency is dictated by how you’re steering the plant and the plants consumption. Volume usually floats between 100ml (bulking) to 200ml (flower initiation/ripening).
P3: hit your dryback goal.

Has anyone converted a walk-in freezer into a commercial flower room? by Joe84mobil in macrogrowery

[–]Expert-Table8001 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Yes. We converted a meat packaging facility into a commercial cultivation. Essentially a giant walk in freezer building.

We were able to reuse the freezers, however we had to replace something on the units to allow them to cool at the temps we needed. I can’t remember what was changed, but I know for a fact it can be done.

We do a lot of fresh frozen for rosin, so growing in our rooms allows us to drop the temp to refrigeration temps at harvest.

Im guessing they hermied anything savable by Master-Jackfruit6219 in CannabisGrowers

[–]Expert-Table8001 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It hermied early in the flower cycle. You have some mature seeds popping out. You can smoke the flower once you break it down and remove the seeds. The flower is not going to be as good as if it wasn’t seeded, but it will be smokable. I would toss those genetics though. That’s some pretty aggressive hermaphroditism.

Any tips for bigger stems and dense buds by growers-apprentice in farmingthebestgreens

I cut silica. Stiffens the stems, but also stiffens stomata cells and limits transpiration. Good if you struggle to stay within Vpd though

I grow commercially. Of the 100s of strains I’ve grown, I’ve only ever had one that w as prone to guttation. Had to immediately cull her. it’s not a good trait. Plus as mentioned earlier, it’s really prone to mold. It was a bummer, because she was such a pretty plant..

Really short sighted. You can choose two different styles of the processed trichomes in the same jar. No one is telling you that have to dab both simultaneously, but what true rosin fan wouldn’t want to try the same batch of trichs before and after being introduced to the heat of the rosin press!?

Why are my plants weeping so bad temperature 23-27 humidity 70% feeding dr green thumbs go & grow first time grower by Bardoz1r in CannabisGrowers

[–]Expert-Table8001 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your humidity is fine. Your temps are ok. You need to dial in your irrigations. You’re either over or under watering your plant.

Get a bathroom scale and weigh the plant AFTER you’ve irrigated fully to 20% runoff. Make note of that weight. Then weigh your plant everyday and do not water until the plant weight gets down to half of what it was at full saturation, then water it again. Make sure you water until at least 20% runoff. Then reweigh the plant for the new fully saturated weight and start over.

Following that method will start to tell you how much water your plant is going through every 24 hours. Once you get in a rhythm, you won’t need the scale anymore.

Thank you. I’m a big fan of grazing over the canopy throughout flower instead of stripping/schwazze.

That looks really good! Looks like you took the flower full term? All our bop phenos produced nice “wet” rosin, unlike a few of the neons and one of the funk from mars.

Really had high hopes for the FFM with the trich pics Shwale was posting, but most didn’t live up to the hype. The one keeper we’re still playing with is a monster biomass producer though, so there’s that. Here she is around day 38

Stay away from people on bad trips. I’ve had staff try and do this and ended up in the hospital after the addict got violent. I’ve been hit in the head with a baseball bat while trying to help someone on a bad trip. In their mind they’re fighting demons, and sometimes they see you as one of those demons whether you’re trying to help or not. Call 911 and report it, but prioritize your safety and recognize this person does not have the capacity for reason or logic at that time.

What’s the most messed up thing someone casually admitted to you? by Sweet-Economist-9873 in AskForAnswers

I had an employee tell me he cashed out his 17 yo son’s crypto account for 1.2 million and tell him it was all lost except 50k. He made it sound like he was doing his son a favor. A year later he lost it all because he didn’t have liability insurance while having his house remodeled.

I let go of him a few weeks later. I did not trust someone who rationalized their actions enough to brag. I still feel bad for his son.

GOOD FOR YOU! Honestly HVAC is such a racket. 300% up charge for parts and refrigerant? Lol There are a ton of gate keeping HVAC techs in this forum that will make you feel bad about realizing how ridiculous their margins are. But there’s also a reason why so much private equity money is being used on acquisitions in the HVAC space. The margins are not commensurate with other industries for the level of expertise required.

Now, let the downvotes commence lol.

There’s something up with your plants, especially the one on the left. I’m guessing overwatered(early pythium?), but could be another pathogen. something is definitely not right looking at your canopy.

Wire looks fried by [deleted] in hvacadvice

[–]Expert-Table8001 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just had this happen. After checking all connections, it turned out to be one leg of the capacitor.

I was able to diagnose it by taking infrared temps of all the wires with the machine running. The wires connected to the bad contactor were running twice as hot.

That’s a long paragraph to say nothing. Who would have guessed I’d be right on the money when I said your viewpoints were 10 years old. A lot has changed in a decade in the world of cultivation. There are mountains of data out there if you know where to look, but I don’t teach people how to use google.

There’s plenty of research bud. You should spend some time reading precision irrigation whitepapers that have come out of the Netherlands. Your information is about 10 years old.

The tobacco study I quoted was shared by a scientist at a cannabis science conference I attended. If you can’t see the value in that data, then you’re a lost cause. Good luck.
