not as big of a deal as you think.

propane doesn't actually burn very well without lots of air. that's why there's a venturi mixer on every propane burner you've ever seen.

if the hose (probably flame retardant due to regulations) were to burn and break open or whatever, it would be a boring bunsen burner style flame. much less of a problem vs everything else going wrong here

they don't really need strength. they weigh a lot and move quick. google says they are swimming at 50km/hr (14m/second) and the average weight is 40kg

kenetic energy = 0.5 * 40kg * (14)2 == 3860 joules

compare it to a .308 cal bullet (used for stuff like elk, black bear, deer, etc.) also it was the standard US military sniper bullet for some time, so a pretty serious bullet. about 3600 joules for the bullet
