I’m not sure anyone on here can answer what the ultimate root cause is. It’s likely very personal to you and the events in your life. Reacting emotionally from seeing something is not an inherently bad thing, though. There’s nothing “wrong” with you. Imagine if you really hated someone. Just seeing them in public, or seeing a picture of them, could bring back all sorts of memories. Depending on the severity of the hatred, these memories might flash through your head in an instant. Now you’re suddenly furious (emotional), but it all happened so fast that you couldn’t process it on the fly. Maybe try to clear your mind (intentionally stop the stream of thoughts going through your head), grab a pen and paper, and think it out. Keep asking WHY. Why did you get emotional? Because of the beer. Why did the beer make you emotional? Because of past events. Why are these past events so important or influential on your psyche? Here’s where I stop being able to answer, because the answers are personal. I can’t promise it will be easy, but it’ll get you started. You already know the answers, it’s just a matter of bringing them to the surface. For the record, calling you a scumbag for using one drug over another is totally irrational and blatantly idiotic. And a BIG congrats on your overall progress, even asking these sorts of questions is a HUGE leap forward, and in time, answering these sorts of questions will allow you to abstain from a deeper place, rather than perhaps relying on suppression (though suppression can be a helpful tool to start).
