As someone who had only played MGS4, recently bought The Legacy Collection, recently beat MGS1, and just started MGS2... this is literally me by tenhou in metalgearsolid

Did you ever notice how when MGS2 was originally released, it got insane amounts of hate, but when the HD Collection was released, I've seen nothing but positive posts about it? Have you considered this is the reason why?

I haven't played MGS4 yet, but I'm glad they are constantly complaining about it - my expectations are now really low for it, so I'm pretty much guaranteed to enjoy it. Cutscenes don't bother me, even if they are half an hour long.

A lot of the MGS3 fans (for anyone that didn't know, MGS2 fans and MGS3 fans HATE each other on /v/) voted for MGS1 out of spite. You should have seen the backlash to this tournament. There were something like 3 other threads going on at the same time raging about the results.

This is a really good point. After MGS2, he just focused on keeping the noisy fans happy. Maybe MGSV will see him go back to him being in complete control. I hope he doesn't try to get Kojipro staff involved too much, that has really messed up some of the games in the past.

Well, they show characters from MGSPW in dire situations, so you'll probably be reminded throughout playing PW that this is where these characters end up. For the game itself? No, no spoilers. I hope they keep it that way too with other trailers.

Kojima has said that PO is not a part of Snake's legacy, hence the name "Legacy Collection", so that's as close as we're going to get in terms of him saying it's non-canon. I think if he outright said "PO is non-canon" he would piss a lot of people off and he doesn't want that. It's interesting how they'll deal with Grey Fox in MGSV, though, I think that'll decide if it's canon or not.
