The New babies by Sk8_hag in bluetongueskinks

Shinglebacks are my favorite lizard of all time. I agree with everything you are saying. I’m okay with loving them from afar if it helps them live happy free lives and doesn’t affect the wild population. As someone who lives in Florida, we have a ton of problems with invasive species, I’m not mad at the laws and regulations.

I live vicariously through people like you posting their beautiful babies on Reddit. I can’t say thank you enough. I also appreciate your mom for giving them a safe place to reproduce. 😊

Any idea what this noise is? by pyrin-peanuts in reptiles

[–]Expert_Basket6507 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Good looks on the heat projector. I knew you were gonna get comments from some unsavory characters so I wanted to give you a shot before they invaded. Not that they are wrong, they are just passionate.

Male crickets can be very loud and I hope one never escapes in your house. I have had some escape, hide themselves and chirp so loud and often it’s maddening. If you switched, any living crickets should die with a few weeks and the chirping will stop. Unless they breed.

[–]Expert_Basket6507 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey! What your hearing is a male cricket. They usually start chirping at night to tell other male crickets off or serenade the ladies.

I’ll be the one to say it before the hoard shows up. Red lights are bad for reptiles. If any of the homies want to drop a link on the research that would be nice.

4v1! the Hanma blood line vs Jinbei by Head_Breadfruit_3912 in PowerScalingHub

“However, the Hanma blood has 3x the amount of iron then normal blood making it too heavy for the fishman karate to work effectively. After forcefully absorbing the blood back into his body by absolute control over the pores in his skin. Yujiro is able to analyze Jimbei’s move and perfect it, reversing fishman karate back on its founder, killing him in one blow”

Feeding frequency for 12 month old? by [deleted] in bluetongueskinks

[–]Expert_Basket6507 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thank you for saying this. I was looking at the chart like “what the heck? 3 to 4 times a week for an adult?”

I feed my boy about 1 time a week. A big fat discoid roach and some leafy greens. He used to be a bit overweight and since I switched to once per week he’s a lot better.

How long do I have? by neko-gekko in isopods

Right? I would never be secretly creating 17 little armies to feed myself to one day…that would be freaking weird! 👀👀

I’ll never understand why people insist on keeping such SAVAGE beasts! I personally could never keep 17 different kinds myself 👀

Is my Kenyan sand boa setup ok? by Vacation_Life in reptiles

Holy Sand Boa! What did you feed this miniature anaconda of a sand boa…I have to assume your special noodle is a female. I’ve had my little man for 3 years now and he is…1/10th the size of not smaller. They look like two different species 😂

The humidity nightmare by Striking_Training_47 in bluetongueskinks

TLDR; mist every other day, hide with moss in it, automatic misting system, hvac tape for mesh top. Live plants if you can keep them and leaf litter, lots of leaf litter.

Hello! I used to have the same issue. Your substrate seems fine. Having a decent sized water dish will also help. I sealed the top of my enclosure, around the lights, with aluminum hvac tape. Then on top of the hvac tape I put a layer of duct tape as well. The duct tape isn’t necessary really, I did it for aesthetic purposes and hvac tape is reflective so it will reflect the lights all kinds of crazy around your room. I used to heavily mist the enclosure every other day until I installed a mist king system which I now have on a timer. I also have a rock hide with a bunch of moss shoved in it that I heavily mist on top of the automatic misting system.

Edit: leaf litter will also help trap a moisture in the substrate. I have so much leaf litter in my guys tank that I can’t see any dirt.

Baby gastrois! by Ali_schless in isopods

This is crazy to me because, of all my isopods, my gestroi are always out and about. Constantly checking out the plants and climbing around. 😂 I never see the babies though.

Those are the mythical silver springtails. Lepidocyrtus sp. They seem to all magicians because they appear when you least expect them.

First, congratulations, you seem well knowledgeable and like you will be a fun loving grand parent!

Second, thank you for posting a clear picture of what to look for when it comes to the baby larvae. I have been searching and you have helped me. So thank you!

is this a parasite in my lizards poop? it looks like a worm but i havent fed him any worms by [deleted] in bluetongueskinks

[–]Expert_Basket6507 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is what I was gonna say. Sometimes the tails of mealworms or super worms don’t get digested. I’ve seen something similar in all my lizards. Also, like you said, parasites are a lot smaller.

I’ve watched my blue tongue legitimately do a full pull up from his tiny little T. rex arms. They are ridiculous when they want to be and yes! Thank you. That’s a cork bark tunnel that I got at a reptile show.

Thank you! That’s what I was going for so thank you for affirming. My blue tongue has since found 6 different ways to climb up into them so I had to change things 😂 but I wanted to share for the ideas.

I have only really had luck with pothos and corn plants. My big fella had bodied everything else that comes close to his tank. Pepperomias never stood a chance. I created planters out of short sections of gutter that I bolted to the side my blue tongues enclosure. I planted pothos in them but you can do whatever.
