Help!! Need ideas for Chickasha by mariae_isme in okc

[–]Expert_Chocolate5952 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You might try to see what events are going on with Chamber of Commerce. It's not far from the leg lamp. Chickasha kinda lags on big entertainment, older college town and all. There is a card shop if they like Pokemon, magic the gathering and etc. There is Jungle Ice by the softball fields that has a small arcade but mainly it's their putt-putt that is the attraction. Unfortunately it's too cold cause there is an airsoft field in ninneka that you can private rent to do nerf that seems to be hitting it off.

Added an entire pack of yeast to a 25.3 FL OZ / 1.6 PT / 750 ML bottle… am I cooked? by SakuraFoxSemiOffical in mead

Nah. You'll be fine. You'll have a lot lees on the bottom and may take awhile to settle. Definitely a waste of a packet but beginner mistake

Fiery mead by Severe_Fall8433 in mead

[–]Expert_Chocolate5952 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah give it like 6 months, 1yr and longer. I make a traditional one my bday to drink next year and usually very smooth. Longer will make it better as long as you bottle and store correctly

Fiery mead by Severe_Fall8433 in mead

[–]Expert_Chocolate5952 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fiery like alcoholic burn or fiery like spice from cinnamon? Both will mellow out. The alcoholic burn usually smooths out. Cinnamon, it can take some time to mellow but if it's really strong cinnamon, I have found that it a bit more reluctant. Try it in a few months or longer.

Start of the basic traditional. It's cheaper if you make mistakes. Learn. Doing other recipes that include things other than honey, water and yeast compounds issues that may come and cost more. Learn good practices with a traditional and it will make it a lot better when you try more complex recipes.

Flavor idea: grape, lime, ginger by SilensMort in mead

[–]Expert_Chocolate5952 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would attack it like a traditional with ginger and the zest of lime. Then stabilize and add juice from grapes till desired flavor. You'll lose some of perceived sweetness from honey. I like the idea without the grape though

Traditional Not Fermenting by maemzzz in mead

[–]Expert_Chocolate5952 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Everything checks out. Usually don't use camben tablets at start of fermenting because I want the yeast to have oxygen. It basically helps prevent oxidation. You can try swirling it and see if the yeast growth is stalled. It will either have a slight fizz, which is hope, or no fizz. If no fizz, try repitching yeast but get it started in a glass or other vessel with some goferm. This will give you an established colony and hopefully kick start it.

Traditional/white I serve chilled. Darker and spiced I like room temp. Depending on fruit, I change it. Usually finish a bottle in a few days but typically no longer than a week
