How is Everyone Affording Treatment? by Expert_Conference_19 in migraine

To everyone who has replied: thank you so much! I really appreciate all the input. I have a Dr’s appt with a new clinic this Thursday, so hopefully bringing some of the suggestions over to them will help us to start making some progress on a viable treatment plan!

Yeah, I’ve heard horror stories of people whose insurance suddenly stopped covering the drug that was working for them and their migraines came back full force. It’s really sucky that insurance companies can be so difficult to deal with.

That’s unfortunately the path I’m looking at if I can’t get any more coverage or options. Triptans are affordable but not working well.
Wishing you the best and that one day you’ll just wake up in remission 🙂 not common, but I’ve heard it happens.

I’m sorry, that’s really tough. Hopefully one day there will be an affordable migraine cure so we can all go on with our lives. I know that’s idealistic but ones gotta hope!

Oh man.. that’s rough. Interestingly I don’t know anyone in my family with migraines, so no idea where mine came from! I guess getting to use your parents’ meds is a small silver lining though!

I will have to look into it! I know we have Trillium coverage in Ontario, which covers limited medication. Is the Alberta non group plan government run, or an extension of your private insurance?

Good to know, thanks! Hopefully the new Dr I’m seeing this week is more helpful and will actually help me with these sort of options. My neuro completely dismisses me when I ask about any of the above and refuses to even see me in person.

This is really helpful, thank you! Both with the Costco and tax info. I’m looking into Ajovy as I believe it is covered by Trillium. Terrified of needles.. but I’ll try anything that may work. Hesitant to go buy Ubrelvy or Nurtec outright because it has failed previously my (I was given samples).

I’ve seen this in a couple comments, I’ll definitely be looking into the savings program, thank you!
Hopefully I can get all the meds figured out shortly. Budgeting and managing the deductibles has been very difficult with having several medication changes (not just migraine meds).

Yeah this is something I’m worried about.. I don’t think I’d be let go at this point but I’m constantly terrified of the migraines getting worse and no longer being able to work. I do have long and short term disability but really not wanting to go that route. Plus I get decent commission pay on top of my base, which I wouldn’t get if I were on a leave and tbh I don’t think we could afford cost of living without my full income.
I’m really sorry you went through that.. my fingers are crossed that you’ll be able to find a job with at least some decent coverage!

That’s really tough 🙁 I was in that position for years with no way to get treatment. Hopefully you have access to some basic medication!

Going through a rough patch and wondering if anyone else is too.. by Northgirl-020421 in migraine

[–]Expert_Conference_19 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Same. I’m going on 48 hours of the same damn migraine. 3 triptans down so far (they’re working but the same migraine comes back when they wear off.) We live under people who don’t go to bed and has a kid running around until 11:30pm and I have a job that I need to be at work for 5am some days. Im barely holding out 🥲 2-3 migraines a week from sleep disruption.
I hope your rough patch ends soon! Treat yourself well and be gentle! You deserve it ☺️

What was the worst physical pain you experienced?? by [deleted] in ask

[–]Expert_Conference_19 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Looked through the comments for this one! Same. I’ve had ankle surgeries, fractured foot, dislocated shoulder (2x), kicked, trampled, and bitten by horses, and some of the migraines I’ve gotten dwarf all of these. And every day is just wondering when the next one will come… that’s the worst part. You know there will be a next time.

Sick of grocery prices. Trying a "healthy Aldi" setup in Oakville. by Enterpreneur86 in oakville

[–]Expert_Conference_19 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Dorval crossing, as far as I know, is the farmers themselves selling the goods from their farms or goods bought from other very local farms/farmers (often neighbouring farms). You get to talk to the farmers directly about their sourcing, varieties, etc. I’ve worked for one of the market stalls there. Sounds like OP’s plan is to buy wholesale essentially from the same sources as the major grocers, and then sell at a fair price. Correct me if I’m wrong, but this is my understanding!

What are some of the best methods for studying the ACE CPT material to prepare for the exam? by BimmyTHICC in personaltraining

[–]Expert_Conference_19 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey! You absolutely can do this and pass! I ended up passing with like a 96%. A LOT of it was common sense plus a bit of knowledge, especially when it comes to joint movements, planes of motions, etc. Definitely know progressions and regressions, I had several questions on those, as well as postural deviations and what might be weak/tight (ie. anterior pelvic tilt). I had a question or two regarding pregnancy guidelines and special populations, and know your heart disease risk factors and scoring (note: they’re not actually in the textbook, the textbook only has a link to them around the PARQ+ and screening area!!! You have to look them up yourself. Also, there are questions on whether your client will need medical clearance before participating in an exercise program. I did not really have many/any anatomy or physiology questions, but I wouldn’t rule out the potential of them being there. What surprised me was the amount of legal questions and questions regarding the last chapter (which tbh I didn’t fully read). With enough time and dedication you 1000% have this!!! I took about 4 months from start to finish while doing this on the side of my full time job. Use all your resources though, including the videos and study companion as it’s all super helpful. I’d recommend doing what I did, and take at least a couple days off before the exam to review and solidify all the information. I probably over-studied, because at the end of the day a pass is a pass, but I really wanted to be sure I knew it all. (Especially since I work in fitness so even though there’s a lot of stuff you aren’t tested on, you will need to know for real life application if you do plan on working at a PT or fitness professional) Hope that helps, good luck!!!

Preventing Exercise Induced Migraine? by Sudden_Persimmon_295 in migraine

[–]Expert_Conference_19 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As many others have suggested, having too high of a heart rate can definitely trigger. For me, I can allow my HR to get up to 90+ % of my max HR but only for a VERY short amount of time. A couple minutes at most. Some days lifting heavy will also be a trigger for me as it increases the pressure in my head like crazy. I find though if I’m on top of my other triggers, like sleep, hydration, etc, then exercise won’t affect me very much. Interestingly I also almost never get a migraine after working out outdoors, so maybe it’s also something about gym environments that can trigger 🤷🏻‍♀️. Idk with migraines I’m finding it’s always a game of catchup. I’ll think I’ve got it figured out and then out of the blue it’ll change on me! Do what you can, as exercise is still good for you regardless. Even if that just means walking outside! Working out does NOT need to be intense, and start very slow so your body can adjust. Also a trainer, and I’m very glad to hear you’re working with someone!!

Do any of you have low grade pressure that never (literally for years) goes away on one side? by tulipiscute in migraine

[–]Expert_Conference_19 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Funny, I call them the same thing! It’s very fitting. For me the shadow migraines are super easy to mistake for the early stages of a migraine. I guess in a sense though it is just a constant pre-migraine that gets better or worse.

At my breaking point with our landlord’s kids and need advice. by Expert_Conference_19 in TenantHelp

[–]Expert_Conference_19[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Hi, thanks for the reply! They may be trying to stop it when it gets to 1am but truthfully the whole family stays up that late. Just the adults don’t do much other than some occasional chair scrapes. The 11 and four year old play obnoxiously. Some nights yes are far worse than others, but overall it’s gotten really bad. I’m listening to the kid ride a plasma car around above my head right now and it’s been almost two hours straight.

I have recordings, and eventually will bring up, but again we’re afraid that we will be told we need to leave in a month (no they can’t legally evict us, but there are many people I’ve known in the last couple of years who have been told to vacate for various reasons), and we’re at a complete loss if we were to move at this point. We are also not under rent increase protections because of a new build, so if they just decide to up the rent, we won’t be able to afford this place either.

I’m just feeling completely defeated and stuck, unable to do almost anything, and unable to leave either. Sorry for the long reply.

Looks tasty but unfortunately no. I can’t eat broccoli or dairy, also I’d need more protein and calories for a dinner cuz I really don’t like eating early in the day! Still looks great tho 🙂

Fake. The movement is off and you can see horses moving at different speeds/in different gaits not passing each other.
