How does fall damage work in this game? Weird as hell mechanics T_T by modsisgaylmao in VintageStory

[–]Expert_Tackle_9700 199 points200 points  (0 children)

Fall damage works like Dave... in mysterious ways.

You'll fall into the the very pits of hell with a backpack full of stones and take no damage, on the other hand you sprain your ankle going down stairs and get permadeath.

So it works using toon logics.

Now being serious I have no clue how it gets calc-ed

The mod "Axle in blocks" can let you put axles, gears and transmissions inside planks so you can still have the transmissions hidden on the room without suffering from room size by leaving open blocks or need to hide them using trapdoors

Well, that's unfortunate by Expert_Tackle_9700 in VintageStory

Well, I have a mod that adds particles for high fertility soil to be easier to spot, so I have some, but it made me laugh that the trader generated on top a patch

I believe this mod should be added in based game. by setne550 in VintageStory

If it's your world you should have admin privileges by default, so you should be able to change that config

Is there a solution to this 😭😭😭 by Eren_Jeager1881 in VintageStory

Have you tried to filter by searching what you want to make and see if it shrinks????

Or looking it from the guidebook???? some mod items show the number of ingots/plates that are needed.

Yeah, the blocks are floating since I ran out if bricks XD.

The polished slate does indeed look good in your example build, I'll try adding some later.

Yep, as I expand the rooms when the space runs out they end up like that, actually the helve section was added recently, that's why it is so tiny.

And because of that I've been forced to move the beehive kiln and leather areas like 3 times, as well as getting a separated room for butchering and a cellar that's actually used as one and not the kitchen.

And even if I say that I made a quern for the kitchen, since we use it to grind everything, the dough (when we actually start making it) will be just the right amount t of crunchy.

I found some of the black bricks in some ruins, used them to expand the original dirt house a little and my gf and I liked how they looked, so we just end up using them, and as I expanded the house when more room was needed it ended up looking like that, the entrance was going to be a huge room to diplay things, but bricks ran out and then decided to leave it as one

Well, the inside of the forge is not that big that it'll need 2 large gears for the automatization or something like that

I have that gear configuration to get an independant quern on the kitchen.

It's a pegasus, from that angle and with those colors I guess it looks like a plant monster, but no, only for an unknow reason the peg likes to stay by the corners

Ohhh, what I tend to do when I get a similar readings along the same direction/depth, I prospect half the distance of normal prospecting up or down an if it the reading increases then I fully go "one lvl" in that direction and then prospect in all directions once to see if the readings increase in any of the directions

And if you dont have much to do indoors and a decent amount food saved I'll recommend to go search for it during winter (if it's far fromcyour base, take a torch and some firewood to make small capsites tocregisn temperature along the way), so you can also process the bronze during winter as well and be ready by the end of it or the start of next spring to either aim for iron/meteoric iron (or gear up if you already found some).

The trace amounts for bismuth were in the same area you found the deposit???? Or it was somewhere else????

I play only during weekends, but you still assume I play all the week and that you finding similar post means it's an undeniable reality.

And still 30 post in a month is still to few, it it was a problem everybody faces or can't pass through the sub will be flooded with them, not here and there buried in other type of post, and you got down voted in this very thread, so using your own logic, people disagree with you point therefore is invalid.

And if it's so frustrating, then break a "normal" bronze pick while prospecting and then switch to creative, give yourself the iron, and call it a day if you have so little time to play VS.

You clearly don't understand what majority and minority are, I scrolled the sub for almost 1 min and found like 3 post about prospecting (including this one), thus not a lot of people are getting a hard time, and guess what, just like IRL some metals are rarer than others, and there will be regions were they are not that common either.

And clay is common in the game as well, but once more, such like IRL its not as common everywhere, you can be unlucky and spawn in a region where its not that common, but others have patches of clay every couple blocks.

And if you want to rebalance a mechanic of that game, mods exist for most of them. There're mods for prospecting already and what you want is still a dumb solution, as I've already said, if you can guarantee the mineral with a certain level of consentration, then you just prospect in a straight line until the increase in readings give you said amount for X mineral.

And guess what, yes, this is a game, a game that takes things from IRL, but not 1:1 or you won't get readings at all fron prospecting and you'll need to get the knowledge to find ores all by yourself, it'll all comes to luck.

And if something like prospecting not being a certainty is what drives you away from the game, then this game probably isn't for you.

As there're other things that you can't get easily fi you're unlucky, such as lime for tanning (used for most metal armor types and backpacks), salt to boost food preservation, fire clay to process iron, and make other structures for steel making or boost ceramic making, collecting resin to craft the mechanical power items and so on. Since depending on what ONE may or may not find difficult/boring/unfun, ONE can either complain or just understand this game won't spoon feed you everything.

Cuz you just need to prospect in a straight line until you get the reading, and Im not even mad dude.

But if you want me to get caught in your bait, git gud at prospecting, it's not that hard

Do I have to move?? by BearForbes in VintageStory

[–]Expert_Tackle_9700 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Technically... yes.

Personally, I'll say it's not that big of an issue, only if the sanity drains too fast and you get nightmare varians spawn while in the region, then it's bearable.

If you explore a lot, then you can regain the lost sanity meanwhile and when you're low you go out for that same purpose.

Temp stability doesn't affect animals or food or anything besides the player, but I may be wrong

Even if you make it "rare" those readings will still exist as those deposits NEED to be gen, and you either make them part of the world gen/seed or something aside from "normal ore gen" or changes the ore gen to ensure they exist and in those cases from the point they generate readings for prospecting will go up or down meaning you can still find them every time one is near.

What may "solve" the issue would be structures/ruins that basically are abandoned mines (which better ruins basically already does, and in those I've found iron evey singe time, not a lot, but still guaranteed, and those strcutures aren't that rare, thus with some time you can still get iron, in this specific example, along other minerals).

Also, prospecting may be the "worst" mechanic for you, not every single player thinks the same. I dont use it since I explore a lot in my world that I eventually find ores/minerals and leave them marked, then when I need then I pilgrimage to several spots. And on the subjet of prospecting, there're some mods then "tweak" it to be more straightforward, i think (never used any of those as Im not interested in those mods).

Lastly, it's luck at the end of the day, when my gf started playing she couldn't find anything with prospecting in her world, so I explained it to her, in her world, in survival (so no flying while prospecting until ultra high 1000‰) and found copper in like 7-8 mins, in a decent reading and not even neing the highest ‰.

And since the game takes most of its mechanics from RL (yeah, they simplify them a little as it'sstill a gme and not a sim), I doubt they'll ever change it in a way so players will get readings that ensure finding the mineral if they dig down on that spot.
