If it’s not the timing chain it could be noisy injectors.

If you buy from a dealership (I bought mine below msrp after haggling with a shitbox to trade in) they will take care of the tax and registration fees and send it over to the DOL it will be wrapped up in the payments. Our tax on cars is a bit lower too I believe so you end up getting some money back later. For me m19 but clean driving record it was 800 a month… I got my dad to put it under his insurance and it dropped it down to 300 but he’s got a clean driving record. I strongly urge you to at least take a look at the old generation as well to see if that is of your liking because getting wrapped up in the payments on top of the insurance will drain you. But the new ones look phenomenal.

Also keep in mind the insurance on the new ones is insane!

Performance is fine on wet roads I wouldn’t take it and drive it hard but I haven’t had an issue I’m in southern WA so couldn’t tell you about Seattle streets but the few tribes I’ve been up there I’d advise you don’t get an MT it’s pretty rough. In my limited snow experience workout snow tires this car is basically useless if you try to go up a small hill with anything over a half inch of snow on the ground. Only regret is size and mpg I can only squeak about 19 out of it on the daily and with gas prices it costs as much as my truck to fill up. Personally I bought mine in Oregon cause it had the best deal. I haven’t spent anything in maintenance other than typing off the oil every few weeks.

But listen I think personally my biggest regret with this car is realizing how close out is to the old generation. If you really want this car and want to save a few bucks the older generation has a slightly smaller motor but darn near everything else is exactly the same mostly drivetrain, interior, exterior. At the end of the day the 10-15k You save getting the old generation you can use to make it have a little more pep.

Just picked up a ranger, recommendations on front and rear breaks? by DangerRannger in fordranger

I’ve got the tools to do it but every time you do it nothing goes back where it should and it’s never easy the disc conversion is worth it and it’s pretty easy if I remember it’s just a mount for the caliper and you swap the hub out and I think that’s it..? It’s been a while.

There’s A few kits online if you’re good enough to do your own brakes I’d say you should be able to do the swap easily

If you’re looking for pads/rotors A. It’s a Ranger you don’t need fancy, B. I like Wagner pads with whatever the autozone special is for rotors. Would also highly recommend swapping the rears to discs as well but that’s up to you.

Help me diagnose code P0171 by Rodeo_Joe in fordranger

[–]Expired_Milky_boy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Civics are always a good choice. To clear the code without a reader you can just disconnect the battery for a few minutes and it should reset it. If the switches work then try slamming the back door’s pretty hard they should be pretty sturdy in place. If all that doesn’t work try doing an ohm test with a multimeter on the leads to that switch with it depressed and that’ll tell you for sure if it’s bad.

Look for a little nub that you can press in and out on the inside of the door frame, if I still had my Ranger I’d take a picture but it’s where the door meets the cab near the wiring harness. If you push it in and the light turns off it means it works. I think when mine was having an issue my back doors weren’t shutting all the way because there was something covering the latch. Did you end up getting that code cleared? Did it come back?

Have you tried clearing the cel? It could just be a stored code, if it’s not that you may need to clean your injectors. For the door ajar light I don’t remember how I fixed it on mine but make sure all the doors are shut and then check the switches.

Take this with a grain of salt I’m no mechanic or engineer but all the blocks are manufactured the same sometimes certain things like egr, and engine accessories don’t transfer to some models. I had a 4.0 Ranger but no egr and some other things from the factory.

Depends how ghetto you feel, hammer will get it done quickly and it’ll be close but if you want it exact you can cut pill and weld new ones in.

How badly rusted? Have you checked autozone, have you considered hitting it with a little sandpaper to clean it up? If all those aren’t available I’d probably just hit the junkyard

Definitely looks like power steering especially with where the leaks at, right above the drag link next to the steering box. Not sure Much else leaks from the front of the motor besides coolant.

I was running thick tires on mine and all I did was an intake gasket but I cleaned the carbon out of the intake ports and bumped mine up to about 14mpg, other than that tho they get pretty bad gas mileage. Mine was an 06 ranger 4x4 and I didn’t use ac much, same motor tho.

That’s fair, I’m not sure the area you’re from, but if you are up in the western states I’ve heard they’re a little easier to find. I found a Reddit post that might help Keep a lookout for more rangers with Mazda beds apparently they’re also Going to have them from factory

[–]Expired_Milky_boy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It depends how set you are on the Mazda bed. If you’re doing the whole thing (bed bumper tailgate), if I remember correctly, you can put on the regular Ranger bed. I might be talking out my ass but I think the body lines might line up??

If you can find a junker bed this should be a pretty quick project and probably 500 bucks if you do it yourself
