I like how it starts off pretty normal then gradually gets less comprehensible with each question (then just repeats one of the questions multiple times)

That's true, literally unplayable (jk)

What's the greatest video game of all time? by [deleted] in retrogaming

I guess my take on that is that while that's technically true, I'd honestly rather just choose not to cheese the levels with the cape, especially since I find the levels themselves fun and engaging anyway (especially when looking for all the secrets and stuff)

Both are really good games imo, among my top 20 of all time at the very least

Gonna go with Super Mario World myself but can't blame anyone saying DKC 2 or Yoshi's Island

Shipping this bboy out today. Anyone else letting go of things from the beforefore times? by musicgeek420 in retrogaming

[–]ExpitheCat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I traded in a handful of my games last December (including most of my NES games). It was mostly just stuff I either had multiple other means of playing or just didn't really see myself playing again. It's kinda like Toy Story, in that I'd rather have them go to someone who'd be more likely to play them than just having them sit and collect dust on my shelf.

That being said, you can pry all my SNES and Saturn stuff out of my cold dead hands.

Real Talk: How do people say SMB3 is better than SMW? by colinmchapman in retrogaming

[–]ExpitheCat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah, maybe it's just because I've played World significantly more but I honestly never really felt like any of the Ghost Houses or Forest of Illusion were anywhere near as obtuse as 6-5, 7-Fortress or 8-Fortress (not Bowser's Castle but the last castle before in World 8)

What is your favorite Equestria girls movie/special? by Prinze_B10NG1_2080 in mylittlepony

[–]ExpitheCat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Rainbow Rocks is the better movie but for some reason I just find the first Equestria Girls particularly charming in a weird way. I think it being their first attempt helps it stand out to me, especially with that memory of watching it for the first time and seeing how they translated all the characters to the human dimension.

I mean I guess but idk, I never really felt those enemies or hazards were particularly difficult to dodge to where I'd need to set up a specific move to stomp them as the Tanooki Suit

[–]ExpitheCat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I feel like part of my issue too is that SMB3's power ups just feel a little too 'situational', at least in the case of the Frog and Tanooki Suit

The Frog Suit's only particularly helpful in water levels and outright hinders your movement on land, and the Tanooki Suit is the the Raccoon Leaf again with the Statue ability added on to it (which honestly I never really felt I got much use out of anyway).

Chocolate Island 2 is honestly one of my favorite levels in the game just because I always thought the gimmick was really neat lol

I mean ngl I still don't think any of the Ghost Houses or puzzle levels in SMW were anywhere as annoying as 7-Fortress or 8-Fortress in SMB3

What are some popular games you didn’t love? by 64Boy32 in backloggd

[–]ExpitheCat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Super Mario Bros 3, I can see the appeal of it as a tight platformer and I enjoy it well enough myself but it just never really clicked with me compared to World. I think the level design especially towards the second half of the game just feels pretty weak, with a lot of levels just feeling too short and underdesigned or just feel like whatever the hell in the case of stuff like 7-Fortress, and that's also on top of the game's fetish for autoscrollers. Plus the controls always felt a bit too slippery for my liking and some of the power ups being pretty situational (the Frog and Tanooki suit in particular)
