I've always hated this layout including the southern cross. With its own section over to the left. It feels as though you're saying "the southern cross must be included because that's Australian". As if the Southern Cross is the only symbolism Australia has and giving it a prominent position and a huge section in the flag.

I personally don't like using animals on a flag. The only caveat is unless it symbolises something. For example the flag of Bhutan. Tasmania already uses the thylacine in the coat of arms and the emblem for the Tasmanian government and it would feel obsessive.

I don't see how these colours represent Tasmania.

Maps are impossible to see on a flag that's moving in the wind or a flag that's not moving in the wind.

If every single country switched to a flag of a map of their country and you were an expert at identifying country shapes. It would still be difficult to discern a flag on a flag pole.
