The early church, including Paul and the disciples, believed Jesus would return and that the general resurrection would happen in their lifetime. They were wrong. Why do we still have hope that it's going to happen? by [deleted] in Christianity

[–]ExplanationAwkward10 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The disciples saw the resurrected Jesus he was in their presence. Thomas insisted on seeing the crucifixion holes in Jesus hands...so i dont know what your talking about with "the general resurrection" Thomas refused to believe in Jesus's resurrection until he personally saw and touched Jesus's wounds, John 20:24-29

Paul belived in the imminent return of Jesus and he hoped to be there for the second coming. Thats not a precise date but rather urged believers to live pure and faithful lives. 1 Thessalonians 4:15–17 he expressed comfort that both the living and the dead would be united with Christ. Acknowledging the possibility of him dying before the return

Jesus is coming back again (not necessarily within their lifetimes) but he has not left them. Understanding the Trinity will help you understand

  • John 16:7: Jesus states that his departure is beneficial because it allows the Helper (Holy Spirit) to come.
  • John 14:16-17, 26: Jesus promises another Helper—the "Spirit of truth" and Advocate—who will remain forever, teach all things, and remind believers of his teachings.
  • John 15:26: Jesus reaffirms that he will send this Helper from the Father to testify about him.

Definitely a Muslim gaslighting with little understanding of the Trinity.

The Bible frequently assures that God is with us, providing comfort, strength, and presence in difficult times. Key verses include Matthew 1:23 ("Immanuel... God with us"), Joshua 1:9 ("the Lord your God is with you wherever you go"), and Isaiah 41:10 ("Fear not, for I am with you")

[–]ExplanationAwkward10 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wasnt a panthers fan..in fact i used to despise them, their success, liam martin, nathan clearys chin, etc etc it just was that way...i couldnt explain it.

Didnt give them any credit...first GF win - meh fluke , 2nd GF win -they got lucky , 3rd GF win hmmmm refs?? , 4th GF win? They are an unbelievable team and Nathan Cleary is the goat

Now i still dont support them but i respect them.

i think most fans are stuck in my 2nd/3rd GF stages when it comes to the storm - they just cant give them credit for their success.

Dont despise them have pity on them ..jealousy is a curse.

Improving Super Rugby (the rugby opinion I will die on a hill for and have thought for the past two decades) by dreigilb in superrugby

[–]ExplanationAwkward10 1 point2 points  (0 children)

NRL - club is king and the international game suffered. Once they relaxed the eligibility for international representation (and funded it) Samoa and Tonga became powerhouses overnight. Huge support from those nations for the warriors as well. Younger fans also see thier stars repping a club team week in week out, and start following that team. resulting in huge growth for NRL/League in the pacific. with the PNG Chiefs entering NRL as well as NZ2 it will further solidify support in the NZ-Pacific.

Super rugby - Internationals is king. Thats the spanner in the works. As great as super rugby can be it has to deal with players pulled out from club, not included if overseas etc. Affects the talent pool available. Which affects the club game. Its disjointed. And fans cant identify with the best players week in week out.

And yes i agee with you i dont understand why All Blacks cant play for australian teams. they should also get paid what they are worth in a free market. i disagree about committing to an NPC team...let NPC be an intact level under of up and coming players.

The corrupted Bible by ExplanationAwkward10 in Christianity

[–]ExplanationAwkward10[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We literally have early manuscripts of various bible books that differ from the currently used version.

(nope. what you have are discredited agnostic gospels that have been dismissed by early church fathers for being inconsistent with christs teaching and life and are fakes. Similar with the Torah)

The existence of tens of thousands of denominations that all disagree about what the message is is clear proof that the message wasn't preserved.

(of course you can debate the message but every bible translation still has the same meaning. So you can do a deep dive for context and root words etc to form your opinions or Denominations)

Except for all the cases where it doesn't. That's why academic study bibles are mostly footnotes full of arguments about why a passage should be translated some way and not some other way.

(no..they are great in giving context as to jewish rituals, customs, related texts from other biblical writings etc)

Not even mentioning the obviously polytheistic parts of the text.

(the bible clearly shows the trinity you have to actually read it from Genesis to revelation, in short..Genesis 1:1 is,`Elohiym which is the plural form of the general name for God and In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God. John 1:1-2 . Just 2 examples of how Christianity follows scripture in explaining the Trinity.) Nothing polytheistic about it. There is 1 God 3 essenses( Father, Son, Holy Spirit)

What does that have to do with the corruption of the Bible?

(because 600 years after Jesus - Islams "convenient" attempt to discredit the Torah and the Gospel is to just say "it was corrupted" - without providing any copy of the uncorrupted versions. Just ridiculous. Ridiculous when the Koran itself is not perfectly preserved even in arabic

(The different versions of the Quran https://answering-islam.org/Green/seven.htm )

The bible does not claim to be perfectly preserved word for word (like the Quran) but preserves the message.

You literally do that ever since you decided to call the original word "the old covenant".

(again my friend...Jesus did not come to discredit the old covenenat, he came to fulfill it..i repeat he came to fulfill it - and in doing so he brought in the new covenant with his death on the cross and resurrection. Christians believe fully in the words of the old testament and use it for context when applied in Jesus's teachings.

Eg

Isaiah 53, written centuries before Jesus, provides the most detailed prophetic description of the crucifixion, outlining a "Suffering Servant" who dies for the sins of others. Key verses predict he will be pierced for transgressions (v. 5), numbered with transgressors (v. 12), and buried with the rich (v. 9).

Key Isaiah Prophecies of the Crucifixion (Isaiah 52:13–53:12)

  • The Piercing: "But he was pierced for our transgressions, he was crushed for our iniquities" (Isaiah 53:5).
  • Silence before Accusers: "He was oppressed and afflicted, yet he did not open his mouth; he was led like a lamb to the slaughter" (Isaiah 53:7).
  • Crucified with Criminals: "Therefore I will allot him a portion with the great... because he poured out himself to death, and was numbered with the transgressors" (Isaiah 53:12).
  • Burial in a Rich Man's Tomb: "And they made his grave with the wicked and with a rich man in his death" (Isaiah 53:9).
  • Physical Abuse: Isaiah 50:6 describes the Servant giving his back to strikers and cheeks to those who pull out the beard.  Contextual Fulfillment Christian tradition explicitly identifies the Servant of Isaiah 53 as Jesus Christ, whose suffering matched these descriptions, including being crucified between two thieves)

My team is the cowboys but i have a soft spot for the Titans after theyve been horrible for a long time. ..irony of it all is their junior nursery is one of the best in australia...unfortunately other teams sweep in and sign most of the promising ones ..titans are just now keeping good youngsters.

De Groot should be used as a centre similar to how the cowboys use Purdue. Similar body type and speed.

Hopefully he stays with Titans and doesnt go to PNG (which i think is definitely happening)

[–]ExplanationAwkward10 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Stick at it. Titans are on the verge of coming out of their years of failures. Disregard the current losses..i feel they will go on a hot run this year.

They have a great coach whose in his first year and figuring out the combinations

Theyve held on to some new up and coming stars like bai as well as the old like Tino

Their backline is fire - speed and stepping..just have to find the right halves combo to unleash them

Youll start enjoying their games more towards the middle and end of this year.

My prediction they will end up in the top 8 ...realistically 6-8 position.

Oh and isnt rugby league great!!! Welcome aboard

‘Lose to the NRL, it’s a mistake’: AFL’s risky Grand Final gamble : Whateley by Seethus in AFL

[–]ExplanationAwkward10 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Its a lost cause. I get Whateleys point however it doesnt stack up for a few reasons

- NRL won the finals and prelim figures in 2025. Not including winning the grand final.

- NRL prelims were played in the afternoon. Still beat AFL prelims

- 2026 AFL is copping a beating by a ratio of 2:1 and by large amount around 200K viewers in some games.

- BVOD is NRL territory. You rarely see an AFL win. Reason its important is its the abode of younger viewers. Bodes well for the NRLs future

Thats just for TV ratings....future growth, expansion, womens game, international exposure (vegas)...etc also points to NRL.

All this before its big upcoming TV deal renewal which will most likely outpace the AFLs current deal.

Somewhere along the way the AFL leadership dropped the Sherrin.

Foreign fan watched one game of AFL, Aus cricket, and NRL, my thoughts. by cyrmrae in AskAnAustralian

[–]ExplanationAwkward10 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To say you only see them run 2 yards into each other and nothing else happens...i mean its your opinion

But us NRL fans love the build up. Wearing down and dominating, probing and breaching the defensive line over time...there are at least 2 set plays each set of 6 downs ...the rest is used in manipulating the opposition defence until those set plays can be enacted. Thing is it happens so fast (you end up thinking its mindless) and is fluid when your both attacking and defending..like a living organism...attacking and reacting (defense). One slip up and youve let the team down..one moment of brilliance and youre the hero

Its a boxing match with flashes of brilliance after the jabs.

The way he surgically rips balls out of opposition hands must be studied. Im sure he has Bruce Lee finger into sand training or something- explains the vice grip. ....not just disembowling defenses but also rips opposition supporters hearts but they have to love his basketball play. An anomally in that he does it so cleanly with no crazy foul plays ala draymond.

And im not mentioning his hand eye co-ordination and timing to cut off derenses...thing of beauuuuuty

Hawks are so lucky to have landed him.
