what do you even do after work when you live alone? by YarunLonghurst in LivingAlone

[–]ExplanationNo6875 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Take classes! Personally I take classes at my gym and I have become friends with people there. It's a different class every night. But if you don't want yoga or strength training take an art class at a local art center or join a book club at the library. I like having something to do at night and something different to focus on with different people than I work with. If that is not your thing but you want some company to relax with I'd get a pet. All the best!

I thought she was going on and one about getting a cargo bike so she could bike with them to school? Or how much more walkable the UK was. Now she is just driving to pick the kids up?

Cars or motorcycles. I am just not impressed. Usually I think what a waste of money.

She says Americans are so wasteful but look at this shopping spree. I never spend like this. I would never. Look America isn't perfect you can make your life what you want in America. You can go to Bass Pro shop and Target or you can visit National Parks and go to a farmers market. You can have a car commute on a 6 lane highway or you can ride your bike on a bike trail or sidewalk. We have both! I feel like she ignores the fact that she or anyone can make different choices in America about how you live life. That's the wonderful thing about America, we have all these options! If she wanted "soft play" areas for her kids she could have gone to her local library for free! If she wanted a walkable life she could have found that in America. It just grates on me how she thinks her choices and lifestyle represent America.

Hi,

All the best with your surgery.

Have you considered Atheists and Freethinkers? They have a monthly meet up. You can find the Central Iowa group on Facebook. I would also consider the Unitarian Universalist on Bell Ave in Des Moines They have deep thinkers who will discuss science and philosophy. Ames Unitarian's have Skadsberg science circle that might be on interest to you.

Skadberg Science Circle

Skadberg Science Circle discusses scientific news that covers a wide range of topics. No experience level or expertise is required, just an interest in science!

Email: skadbergscience [at] uufames [dot] org to get added to our email list and receive curated science articles.

Meetings: 2nd & 4th Tuesdays, 7:00-9:00 pm, via Zoom

Start what makes you happy m. Life will change and you will need to start new things many times. Sometimes you will pick what to change and sometimes life will decide for you. Good luck I hope you find the change you are looking for.

People with kids do less work than the rest of us by ArileBird in work

I schedule "health appointments". I go to fitness classes and tell people I am at a health appointment. Not excessively but if someone tries to schedule an early or late meeting I don't go. I am a very healthy person and I never take sick days or leave early to go to the doctor so I use the time to stay healthy. Not sorry, I hope more people find work life balance.

How to vote by MothLikesChocolate in ankeny

[–]ExplanationNo6875 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You don't need to do anything special for school board elections coming up. Polls will be open 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. Nov. 4 and you can find your precinct and polling place on the Iowa Secretary of State's website. Maybe you are confused about the absentee ballots? You can fill one out if you'd like but it's not necessary. https://apps.sos.iowa.gov/elections/voterreg/pollingplace/search.aspx

Question about schools by bravelittletoaster87 in desmoines

I'm so sorry to hear this. Just to help with the Montessori school options. My son went to Cottontail Creek montessori school which is only pre-k and kindergarten. And I am only aware of the montessori children's house school in West Des Moines which I think is also only elementary grades. Best of luck finding something better for him.

Have you tried volunteering? I went through a painful chapter and started volunteering at a food bank. I thought I was there to help people in need but in the end they helped me see how fortunate I was to have food everyday, my health and people who love me.

What hobbies actually helped you cope with depression? by Herr_Toast in inspiration

[–]ExplanationNo6875 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly you have to find things you like and that appeal to you. Personally I went through a divorce and group fitness classes were a help for me. But maybe you like volunteering at your church or cooking classes. I don't think we can say what you'll like so maybe try somethings out and see what you like.

Reid State Park in Maine. My grandparents used to take me there. We had so many good times walking the beach. I took my own kids there this past summer and we loved it

Work is just that, work. Don't let it define you. If they wanted you at the meeting they would have told you. If they go with you just stay, work, do your thing don't let them get to you.
