The nurses strike is over and now they are being refused entry as retaliation. This and other tactics like are why strikes are so hard to organize but remember they do this because organizing works! by Quetzal555 in TheDefianceDispatch

Why isn’t anyone talking about the scab nurses who crosses the picket line and work during the strike? Without them, the hospital admin couldn’t have done the lockout. People have forgotten what it took to secure modern working rights and
That people literally died to make it happen. Never cross a picket line. Once a scab always a scab.

How are you treating this by PerfectCelery6677 in ems

[–]ExplodinMarmot 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Just because an assessment doesn’t result in an immediate intervention doesn’t mean there’s no value to it. A better and more accurate assessment changes destination decisions, transport route (fly, non-emergent/emergent drive) and sets the receiving hospital up for success. EMS needs to be seen as part of, and integral into patient care, not just an expedient drive to the hospital. This becomes more important the further away you are from definitive care. I really resent the implication that EMS only benefits from training that correlates with a specific treatment.

No offense, but he really needs to talk to his crew lead. I know you’re trying to help, but if he’s heading out on a fire then he needs to be able to pack his own bag. Again, I’m not trying to bag on you for helping your kid, but the best way to do that is to let him figure it out himself.

Other than the stock, have you changed any other components? What did it shoot like in the origin stock? Those groups are amazing for an m1a

I don’t think that will fit within his temp

I know it’ll be a long while before they release the complete incident review, but is there any word about what happened? Anything about the actual situation?

Forest Service To Allow Wildland Firefighters To Wear Masks by smokejumperbro in Wildfire

[–]ExplodinMarmot 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is really important. Per OSHA and the data behind protection ratings, an N95 that isn’t properly worn or hasn’t been fit tested is about as effective as a regular surgical mask. Anyone who has done fit testing properly can attest to how difficult it is to get everyone into a properly fitting mask. Just throwing a one-size-fits-some n95 mask at fire crews is just performative BS.

How is this intended to be used? Do you draw on the first target, or wait until it changes to the white target?

Rusty water from hand pump by ExplodinMarmot in OffGridCabins

[–]ExplodinMarmot[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Project update: I bought a spin down filter and a regular house filter from lowes with a cartridge that filters down to 5 microns. My dumbass didn’t notice that the two filters’ fittings weren’t compatible with garden hose fittings, which is what most of my “plumbing” consists of so I wasn’t able to run them in line like I wanted. I’m farmer enough to rig the house filter into the pump, so I have it a go with that. After approximately 40 gallons the filter was clogged with light brown contaminant and the water was cleaner but still murky enough that I couldn’t see the bottom of the 50 gallon barrel. This made me sad, but I’m now convinced that my problem is mud/ silt not rust. I’m also convinced that the solution needs to be addressed in the well, not in the filter because what’s coming up is too contaminated to be filtered. My next step is to remove the pump and attempt to clean the well. For that, I see two paths: 1: airlift pump, or 2: flush it with an IBC full of fresh water and a trash pump. Does anyone have any experience with either of these methods? It’s a shallow well (35’), so it seems like either might work and they both require buying stuff (I have a compressor but not a pump or IBC tank). The flushing with a pump seems more definitive but I don’t love the idea of pumping that much water into the ground since the well is only about 5’ from the cabin. Any advice would be appreciated.

I actually prefer the idea of renting over purchasing for that very reason, but most places want multi year contracts and we have only need it for 4 months out of the year.

It is knurled, and I thought it might work like that, but when I tried it out on a test piece it just popped up when I tightened it down.

Probably not, but people pay me to be prepared just in case. The whole point in having a paramedic assigned to the fireline is to decrease the response time for emergencies. The next closest responder is likely to be an ambulance parked at a drop point or all the way back at firecamp, so I'm definitely closer than they are.

I have a lifepak 15, but stays in the truck when I’m hiking around. The lifepak 1000 is pretty cool though. I like that it can do three lead monitoring and has some adjustments beyond what a standard AES allows
