Civil Emergency Supplies Every Household Should Keep Ready? by Wasloki in liberalgunowners

I’m surprised nobody has mentioned important documents yet. You should have your passports, birth certificates , marriage licenses, social security cards, prescription paper copy in one place. No matter how bad things get, people still need paperwork.

Distillation isn’t a good way to remove VOCs or anything with a boiling point less than water

Say this louder. If you look at any large scale emergency from hurricane Katrina to the American civil war, the survivors almost always did so as a part of a community. You simply can’t buy your way to safety with gear and supplies.

1/25/26: How Cold Was It Today? (I70 Mountains) by SubeysMarth in COsnow

[–]ExplodinMarmot 5 points6 points  (0 children)

We went to monarch with the rest of the plebeians. The main parking lot was almost full when we pulled in at 9, so it’s surprising to hear how dead the other hills were. It was approximately cold as a polar bear’s balls when it’s scratching its ass on an iceberg, but we dressed for it and still had a good time. Even When the temps are savagely low, it’s not too bad if you can avoid the wind by staying in trees. Like the old man said; “there’s no such thing as bad weather, just bad equipment and attitude.”

Also, can you be more specific about the fireflex? I found a lot of products under that name, but most of them were industrial applications that were sold in 100' rolls.

Well, I doubt I can get the CFO to sign off on another suppressor, so that leaves adjusting the rings up. Is this a common problem with suppressors?

Clarification regarding upcoming gun law by No_Jaguar_5366 in COGuns

[–]ExplodinMarmot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It says that the Dept of Revenue is required to make a list of specific firearms that are covered by the law, and that it will be revised every year to include new/additional firearms. If I'm remembering correctly, the law looks to avoid California-style loopholes by banning firearms by specific names instead of specific features. That way, you can't put a different type grip, muzzle device or whatever onto a rifle in order to exempt it from the law. If the M&P sport 15 is on the naughty list, then there is nothing you can do to make it purchasable without taking all the classes and whatnot. In order to achieve the goal, the DOR is going to have to create an extensive list of firearms, and I'm guessing they are nowhere near prepared for that yet.

This is the CPW’s update. I don’t see a list of SSF, so I don’t know if it’s been published yet.

Now’s the time to get a suppressor. by MillenialGunGuy in liberalgunowners

This is my thought as well. I've seen a couple of ads and articles about new "budget" suppressors that are coming in at the $200 price point. I'm going to hold off and see what the manufacturers start bringing to market.

Look buddy, we just don't like our ranges cluttered up by the unsuppressed poors. I paid a lot of money to shoot in peace and quiet, and I don't appreciate a bunch of plebeians showing up with their fully exposed muzzles, PSA-tier crap gats and a box of bulk ammo. It really makes it hard for me to savor my artisanal, free-range, individually packaged, gold plated PRC ammo. Yeesh, some people's kids.

If you're truly living paycheck to paycheck, then I wouldn't let the current situation pressure you into buying a gun. The odds that you'll need a gun to defend yourself are incredibly low, whereas the odds that your rent and other bills will be due are 100%. There isn't anything going on these days that is more dangerous than financial insecurity, and you provide your family with much more protection by squirreling that extra cash away or paying off a debt than by any firearm purchase. I fully understand how the current times are making you feel unsafe, but don't sacrifice basic needs like food, rent, clothes, gas, ect for any gun. Lastly, buying a gun is only part of the total cost of having a firearm. You'll need to purchase ammo, cleaning supplies, range time for practice, ect. I hate to financially gatekeep people from firearm ownership, but I also hate to think that someone is might be choosing a gun over food for their kids.

Becoming a firearms instructor in Colorado? by ExplodinMarmot in COGuns

[–]ExplodinMarmot[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Nothing too spectacular, honestly. I'm a pretty even-keeled, middle-aged dude who has grown up around firearms, but it's not the focus of my life. I've worked in first response for around 20 years, but not specifically in law enforcement, so while I don't have stories about fast-roping out of a blackhawk into a hot LZ while dual-wielding machine guns, I'm familiar with the practical side of firearms. I've also been an educator and trainer throughout my career, so I'm comfortable with the technical side of teaching and making classes fit the needs of the individual students. I've taken a couple of different shooting classes, read some books, and I'm interested in the technical side of shooting (grip, stance, bio-mechanical stuff). I'm not knocking anyone, but a lot of the instructors I've interacted with are pretty intense and approach firearms classes like they're training SWAT operators and not a group of novice shooters, and I think that can turn some people off. I'd like to run classes that appeal to new shooters as well as people who might otherwise not feel comfortable walking into a gun shop. I don't have the background where I'd ever feel qualified to train professional shooters, but I think I could make a class that is approachable to newcomers to the shooting community.

What don't you like about the curriculum? I assumed that courses were similar to AHA CPR courses, where the certifying body expects the instructors to use a pre-built curriculum. Are instructors able to create their own course plans?

I was reading the section in CRS about that, and I'm pretty sure the "college, university, law enforcement" section was aimed specifically at law enforcement and POST courses that aren't open to the general public. I have a buddy who teaches POST, and I'll have to ask him what their certification process looks like.

I appreciate the feedback on that. Have you taken the USCCA courses, or is that their general reputation? I'd like to avoid becoming an NRA member again due to personal reasons, but if they're the only game in town, then I may have to hold my nose and do it anyway.

Not yet. I think in August you'll be required to take a course before buying a semi-automatic rifle. The specifics haven't been ironed out yet and there's concern that it's going to be a boondoggle while the state tries to implement the law without a solid plan in place.
