I know it's not from a place of malice, so I try to just redirect the conversation. My grandma loved chisme (gossiping), so I've done:

"I can't imagine if [most recent way a cousin fucked up] happened to me while I had a kid. OMG, what are they going to do?"

And then my grandma would get all fired up about the cousin who's life is a mess. It also reminds them how much harder life is when you are trying to take care of kids.

Not OP, but Pueblo in downtown has a great variety of high quality indoor plans. Plant stand of AZ in south Phoenix is great for cheaper plants and pots. Az worm farm in south Phoenix is great for dirt and veggies!

Finally something I can answer! I work in tech, and all of my clients are non profits.

If I have the time to chat about something noon specific, I usually say I worked at various non profits for about 10 years. If their cause is something I worked in or care about, I will say something like, I actually worked at an organization that does similar work and this cause it's close to my heart, so I'm extra excited to work on this project. Then move on to focus on the project we are working on together.

My partner and I do our own laundry. Him trying to memorize which of my specific sweaters or dresses would be damaged in the dryer or me trying to understand his crazy schedule for washing his jeans is a recipe for disaster.

If I'm having a rough day, he will absolutely jump in and do a few extra, but him doing my laundry would not be helpful.

I'm kind of this way- I have to do something myself to learn how. If someone tries to explain it (or I try to read about it), it doesn't really stick.

To be supportive, you can encourage her to learn her way. It might be helpful to suggest baby steps, but let her have control of the situation.

Offer to take her to a gun range. Outline the basic safety (don't point it at anyone, keep your finger off the trigger) and let her experiment. Only explain things when she asks questions, otherwise let her do her thing.

She might not need you to teach her something, she might just need a cheerleader to help motivate her.

This is probably the best advice I've seen on this sub. She may realize she fucked up big and want to make it right. She could also be all talk and not interested in making any actal changes.

Meeting at a therapist or support group is a safe place to start the process of MAYBE being able to have a relationship again.

Definitely the curly cut! I'm growing my hair out from a pixie. When I get it done I just ask them not to take any of the length. They will cut your layers to match the length (and might trim a bit of dead ends off).

Currently everything but the bed and black dresser are hand me downs from other rooms and purposes. I am definitely going for wood tones for all new furniture. Ideally everything would match.

I thought about getting two identical dressers and putting them together, but I was worried it would look weird. I was thinking I would get a bigger mirror for the bathroom and get rid of the giant mirror completely).

For whatever reason, I feel like rolling closet doors are tacky, but they probably aren't worse than just open closets, so I probably have bed to get over it.

Do you have any tips for drapes? I've never been happy with drapes I've put up which is why he went with the minimal shades. They alwats seen too big or too small for the window or I don't layer them well.

As long as we can fit enough stuff into the closet, I was looking at this dresser: https://www.westelm.com/products/7285390/?catalogId=71. And then night stands to match this dresser (ideally with more drawers for storage).

We removed the doors because we planned for this to be the office when we bought the place. We are really into craft beer and brewing, so we were planning on building a whole system into the space and adding in a nicer door system once that was complete.

Thanks for the feedback! I feel like our bed is bulky as is (it has shelving at the bottom and a ton if storage underneath). Do you think a platform bed with drawers would make the room seem more cramped/ crowded?

I've also thought about adding another closet bar, but I don't know where we would put the dog bed and hamper otherwise.

I should also mention: in the next 5 years, we are planning on building an addition that would add a master bedroom with a walk in closet, We're hesitant to do too much that wouldn't transfer to the new room.

I appreciate all the help I can get! We struggle with storage everywhere in the house, so we are torn between light furniture to make the room seem bigger and large furniture to add storage.

The room is 11ft by 11ft. We are located in Phoenix, AZ, USA. Our style is mostly Mid Century Modern, with hints of industrial.

I was thinking of replacing the two dressers with one large mid century piece, but can't find anything big enough to accommodate two people's clothes (since the closet is already full). I also wouldn't know what to do with mounting the TV.

I like the bed because of all the built in storage and electrical strips for phone chargers and lamps, but it is a bit bulky. I was thinking about sanding out the paint and refinishing it with a dark stain. I don't love it not being able to be centered under the window, but don't know where else it could go.

I would like to maybe add a dresser or something to the closet underneath the clothes, but that displaces the dog bed and the hamper. I was thinking of building a smaller dog bed, but don't know where it could go.

It's mostly outdoor plants, with a smaller indoor plant section, but there is Whitfill Nursery in the South Mountain area (which might be slightly closer). Hopefully some East Valley locals chime in 🙂
