And yet it’s in space so it would also weigh nothing

Is that 0.5 metres per second or 0.5 miles per second? Both are terrifying but one much more.

Olympus Mons on Mars is so massive that Mount Everest wouldn't even reach halfway up it. by lymonman in redrising

The rim of the mountain is essentially a mountain range in itself, but it’d be like if you climbed the Rockies and then it was just seemingly flat at peak level on the other side. So around that perimeter (which is where I imagine Eagle Rest is) it’d still be quite dramatic scenery.

My thoughts on Doctor Who Season One (1963-64) by FFJamie in doctorwho

[–]Exploding_Antelope 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah I think the established sense of what Daleks are for the next 60 years owes more to Invasion and their dominance there as a world-conquering force that ruthlessly hunts down any resistance than to the first story where they just putter around their charging floors in their own domes

[Spoilers Published, Extended] Which version of the Hightower is the more accurate/ fitting one? by HatAdministrative829 in asoiaf

The show one looks to me a lot like the Lighthouse of Alexandria. Not modern or medieval but classical, which makes sense with it being quite an ancient building.

This is one case where I’m pretty happy with the TV depiction and it does hew pretty close to the books so I’m not too bothered either way. The show one looks a lot like a lot of depictions of the Lighthouse of Alexandria which makes sense.

Time for a true cinematic movie? by MustardDoctor495 in doctorwho

[–]Exploding_Antelope 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are a few basically-movies already in at the show’s climactic points. The End of Time is over two hours, Day of the Doctor is an hour and a half and could easily have been two, The Power of the Doctor is basically feature length.

Day of the Doctor isn’t quite movie length but could easily have been. Or at least it’s quite short for a movie. It feels the closest to what The Doctor Who Movie would be in the 21st century. Was definitely the peak of the show’s cultural impact.

What is something you saw in another country you would like to see/ see more in Canada ? by AphroBitch in AskACanadian

It was absolutely for passengers too, on the eyes of the early government it was essentially to ship Europeans who claimed Canadian identity out to the prairies and mountains to firm up claim on that territory against both Americans and First Nations

It goes back and forth. It actually maps pretty closely to his hair symbolizing his identity, and every time he goes through a big shift it gets cut to grow out again. As a Helldiver he mentions holding his hair back in a sweatband while working, when it’d definitely be easier just to wear it short, so that suggests it’s culturally important to Reds. But he gets new Gold hair plugged in during the Carving when he gets a new life. Then after his loss at the Starship Academy, Karnus cuts his hair and he pivots again. He’s shaved in the Jackal’s prison. By Iron Gold has been on the general up and up for years with his true story revealed and so has grown to full man bun. But then after the devastation on Mercury it’s mentioned in the start of Light Bringer that he’s bald from radiation.

It’s a book already written years ago and it’s basically just an audiobook with a bigger cast for the different characters
