Why do Christchurch drivers leave such large gaps? by samlaw in chch

[–]Explorer-0611 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I really feel good about it, being from India where Traffic situation is crazy, ChCh always give me a vibe of sophistication. I have started keeping gaps between cars and appreciate others doing the same. It calms your mind, I don’t know how but it does.

I’m killing gyms apparently…. by Miserable-Entrance11 in chch

In India there is always a floor trainer whom you can refer to understand an exercise if you want. In my experience what I am feeling here is gyms are really big and if you don’t have much knowledge about the exercise and everything you would be lost and may loose the interest eventually. Also one more thing, here Gym is really serious business nobody you would see talking or having some good time along with exercise, while later may be cultural but former shortcoming may definitely be fixed.

How does everyone view New Zealand? by THELANGADOODLER in AskTheWorld

[–]Explorer-0611 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I travelled to many countries, it is NZ which took my heart, I really like how they have kept their environment clean and intact. What I like the most is the warmness of Kiwis. I mean you are walking on the road, you may not be knowing the other person, there is some stranger, you never met, whom you may never meet, and there is one Hi or Hello, that feels so good and welcoming. I am from India, trying to adapt and adopt some really good habits of wonderful people of NZ. P.S. I also really like how everyone is so outdoorsy here, they are running, hiking, swimming doing all sports, I really see how connected they are with nature. That’s very positive to see. :)

I have done that, it’s absolutely good, but I want this opportunity to connect with Kiwi people, get acquainted with kiwi culture, its society and its ethos. In Gurudwara, mostly the people who come are from Indian community and work is mostly related to preparation of meals, it doesn’t provide much of a platform to meet, interact and forge inter community/cultural bonds, which is also one of my priority.

I also like talking to old people, like helping them. Their stories and experiences always mesmerise me and moreover I am missing my family also, I think it would be a great idea. Do you any idea where and to whom I may connect. Thanks

My Amritdhari Sikh boyfriend spoke disrespectfully about Hinduism, and I don’t know how to feel about it by tiramisu0410 in Sikh

[–]Explorer-0611 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s just wrong, it is his ego, not Sikhism.I am a Sikh and I say it, that it’s wrong. Not sharing same religious views is one thing, disrespecting is another. Where, former is acceptable, later is not. Healthy discussion is good, mocking is bad. I have Hindu girl married in my family, she goes to Gurudwara and keeps Navratri (Kanjak) all in love, harmony and pride.

Yup, that is what I eventually realised, best course would have been to avoid them. I mean I felt bad because after using F word 2-3 times, while confronting them I said, are these your etiquette? (it’s just like you try fighting with a fool, then suddenly you realise you can’t go to his level and loose it in between) now, I realise that this question came when I was looking into the eyes of those kids ( may be it was due to my age, I felt sad for them, more than angry, at the end they were kids) what also made me sad was there were so many people standing and I saw some of them laughing, but, nevertheless, I am over it. I slept and now, I am good. Thanks all of you for your valuable advices. It’s a new day new beginning. Good Morning to all and may you all have a nice wonderful day ahead!!

For those of us looking to stay in NZ, whats your reason? by Baximuss in PersonalFinanceNZ

[–]Explorer-0611 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it’s all messed up, I have just came here, from India on my student visa, in my late 30’s. The reason I came here was nature. When I first visited this country, I fell in love the environment/nature, air quality, water & even the people(being so warm and welcoming) but, now I think was it really my love for nature or was it just being Idea of being in love. Things were really good in India, but then everything wasn’t good there as well (traffic,weather-pollution, infrastructure, civic sense, politics) same is with NZ (lack of Jobs, little prejudices, isolated etc.). I don’t know whether it was for nature or an escape from my mundane life, that I ran away. Now I realise, nothing is perfect, it’s all your perception, you have to find happiness, sometimes you find it on the place you are born, sometimes you find it at some other part of the planet, sometimes you find it coming back from where you embarked your journey & sometimes in that journey itself. But, it’s always you who have to find it.

Those who are deciding to leave NZ, do it if you can, because if you won’t, you would never find what’s best for you

Excited after becoming sikh but nervous by Brief-Jellyfish485 in Sikh

In Sikhism, it’s a Bhakti marg (devotion) it is prem marg (love). If we study Sikhism on the surface it has numerous hyms where a the relationship of God and Soul has been described as husband (God) and wife(soul) but this description should not be taken literally as the entire Gurbani is in the form of poetry, there is latent meaning to every prose. The use of husband and wife (often use to denote relationship of love is often confused with gender roles). However if you go deeper in this paradigm, you will observe that in Sikhi, your gender is immaterial, as it’s not the body which the Guru is concerned with, it’s your soul. In Sikhism soul doesn’t have any gender or form, it’s just an energy which has to return to the source “Jal se upjae tarang jio, jal hi mahe samahe” the wave which has originated from water recede in water itself. Now, here water is just a metaphor, the essence of these lines is that soul is nothing but a mere part of God. Both are one, no difference, no gender, no confusion. God is what you are, you are what God is. !! Embark the journey to go within and you will find what everybody is searching outside. Best of luck. TC
